Its good to see this game getting some dev attention. Now if they would just put pvp back into the game.....
I'm very happy to see this game getting some love. Not that I'll ever play it again.
Considering the thousands of bugs in the game, how you can call a couple dozen tweaks an "extravaganza" is beyond me.
Im not sure what is worse: the devs disappearing for over a year with zero communication or seeing the few remaining players get so excited for this "update".
There is a core crew of people that like the game despite some bugs. I think for them these bug fix updates is a sum of more than bug fixes but also a sign that Sony may actually put some time and money into the game again. I actually am tempted to check it out....again..
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.

Look at SOE and look at Trion (I quit RIFT). One is heavily involved and communicates on a regular basis with it's player base, and the other treats them like lab rats. It's no wonder RIFT is doing as well as it's doing and Vanguard ... this game still around?
I stopped playing Vanguard a few years abck, I had my Level 50 toons and We could clear teh APW with Ease...
The named Raid targets would alsways be on lockout, the New battelfield location was not that much fun and the Bridge area was just a grind
But I quit as I could see that they were clearly not interested in keeping a Dev Team going, this game could have been so much stronger

and Having looked I cannot believe its 4 years since I last played and nothing ahs really been added to the game.....

Good to see something happening. My wife and I have recently upped and are going to give it a play through. I'm not expecting to play this game forever so updates are a nice bonus.
It is a shame to see what SOE has done to this game considering how great it could have been...also considering it is one of the very few Sandparks out there.
There are plenty of people online at all times to get through all tiers of content from URT, to Hunter's League, to Corerie Infineum Sanctuary...all the way up the chain to end game raiding.
Also, I don't understand all the uproar about population when most players prefer to solo entire games...hence, the success of the craptacular abomination known as Rift. If you're a soloer why do you care about population??
That being said...if you are a solo player, Vanguard is NOT the game for you. The content is harder than anything you would appreciate or could most likely handle. This MMO requires that you actually take part in that second M. Multiplayer.
Anyhow, Vanguard has a thriving population, numerous active guilds, and a very nice and helpful community of players. If you missed this title, I highly recommend you try it out (for free of course $$) before passing judgement.
I dropped this news to MMORPG.com after a hint on the VG forums here that SOE would update. When I visited the VG site the patchnotes were there and I was stunneed that after so long SOE finally puts some 'love' to the game.
...at least now I have a game to go to when I'm not in the mood for L2 ;-)
Im not sure what game you are currently playing but it clearly isnt vanguard. Soloing in vg is as easy if not more so than virtually any game out there. Obviously groups are faster and there is little content a 2-3 person group cant handle other than raids.
As for a "thriving population", if you're going to lie at least take the effort to make it believable. People have been flat out lying about "great peformance","hardly any bugs","thriving population",etc since beta.
That being said, there are active guilds and helpful community members. As long as you drink the kool aid and dont say anything negative about the game or correct one of the faithful spouting nonsense about this being the greatest game EVAH, you should be fine.
Why are you even comparing VG and Rift? Nevermind quality or playerbase, the very basic concepts and timelines are different between the two. Might as well compare Lineage to Guild Wars.
There is 2 things that this game needs.....
-Updated character annimations
-Free to play model to make a relaunch
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Of course you "can" solo. There are quests you can do alone. But you will not progress and your gear will always be worthless unless you group up for the premium dungeons (which span all level ranges).
You must be one of those people that think anything under 500k per server is "low". I define "thriving" as never having to beg for a group because there are always people in the area working on the same quest lines as me.
Some classes are better at soloing than others (like any game) but even for them it is not "easy" and for the other classes it is nearly impossible.
To put it into perspective: I soloed my rogue to 50 AND maxed my crafting in Rift in probably two weeks...maybe 18 days. That's with casual play. I also had cleared every dungeon other than Greenscale. At that point I had experiences 90-95% of the content Rift has to offer...and did it ALL solo (except the dungeons of course).
I've been playing Vanguard since launch, I have 1 max character and 4 others in the 40's...and there are still areas I haven't had the opportunity to explore...still dungeons I have yet to enter. Besides that, I have not maxed Diplomacy or Crafting.
Rift is a one trick pony...and once people start to realize that the zone events are NOT dynamic and start to get annoyed by there appearance rather than excited the game will fall off the edge.
It's obvious I think rift is a sub-par game...but that is just my opinion. However, the depth of lore, gameplay, mechanics, and content of Vanguard ECLIPSE it in every category...and that, my friend, is a fact.
Ah, Vanguard, such amazing classes being wasted. =(
trying VG atm and liking it so far but one of the saddedst things i see in this game is the Fanbois in local/regional/global chat etc touting this game as the second coming of jesus or somthing lol its not enough for them to be zealots in the forums? Over a 6 hour play period yesterday there were at least 4 different clowns slagging off every other game out there whilst verbaly masterbating over there holy grail rofl. So now i just switch all those channels off and im enjoying the game again. Word to the wise fanbois, if you love this game so much how about you STFU! and let new people form there own opinion without bias because you are coming off like a bunch of door to door bible thumpers. So for anyone else out there trying this title like myself ignore the fanbois and ignore the haters, i have and its so much more fun
I generally get pretty good performance given that I can run Vanguard at max settings and get a better framerate than I would running Rift on high settings, but to say Vanguard has plenty of people playing isn't really telling the whole story. There are plenty of people, but they're almost all at least level 50. It always seems decently easy to get groups in the teens and to start the TK questline, but there's a real shortage of players from 30-50, which is really the majority of the game.
Holy cow, I just looked at the update list and July 8, 2010 was the last update before these 2 this August!!!!???
That's just criminal.
Amazing that anyone still plays this game. I loved my Monk and Necro, but wow has it been a long time needing work and seeing how little they've done in the last 2 years I'm just amazed.
so much truth with this post. The community alsoc onstantly refers to themselves as the "mature" mmo community, when in truth the majority of them are more childish than WoW players
Totally agree . I don't think updated character animations are on the cards but given they are fxing some bugs after all this time free to play just might be
Good job with your blatant generalization of an entire group of people due to the actions of a few. Are you racist too?
