What Happened to the World of Darkness from CCp

RunemonRunemon Member Posts: 11

a little over a year ago we got the info that CCP (creators of EvE) was developing a MMORPG based closely on the PnP game: Vampire the Masquerade. What happened to the info on this game as there have been no updates in over a year. Has this become vapor ware?

I doubt is has become vaporware, but i think with all these upcoming big mmos, and the fact they havent "tamed" their engine, which, if incarna is any hint, looks damn awesome.

and i also think they have this slight bioware/blizzard approach which means no need to speak, unless there is somethinghammered down and worth speaking of,  just my 2 cents though, since i havent followed this game or anything.

    my guess would be this:

when they finally  reveal or give more info, they will have enough info to make us all proclaim it the next big thing in sandbox mmos, possibly hybrid, or even something 3rd:)

of all the new mmos coming out TWOD seems best to me. I am patiently waiting for more info

    ups forgot one thing :)

when they announced the game back then, they had at the same also purchased another studio in canada i believe it was,

so in that light, it might still be very "early" in development.

i have to admit the game does pique (spelling?) my interest, if anyone can make a cool vampire-like mmo, that is different from almost any other mmo, it is certainly CCP, without a doubt, and  that keeps me interested

Bad press related to expanding cash shops into their business model.

--CCP could cut off an Eve player's fun bits, and that player would say that it was good CCP did that.

CCP doesn't have the manpower to be handling all the projects they currently have on their plate.  They got overambitious and overextended, and now they have a bunch of extremely slow moving projects.

cannot say that CCP is getting bad pres.. especially when EvE online went from an indy game with no advertisement to the mega sub success that it is today. Cash shops in general are bad ideas but that is the direction all these companys are going for instead of jacking sub prices up to 20 bucks a month.. remember when EQ was 9.99 a month to play?

Don't expect it earlier than 2013. Possibly later.

Besides their graphical engine while producing nice reults is severely unoptimized and Eve Online players are guinea pigs atm with captian quarters :/

    @Runemon

    I prefer 20 $ /month than Cash Shop tbh

EQ was released 12 years ago , seriously , after that much time I don't think 20 $ is unusal , I think it would be preety fair.

Have you been living in a cave? Crowd Control Productions and White Wolf, Inc. currently have their hands full and like most companies, have a no-say policy until a certain date. In other words, we will most likely not be receiving any information about the game until sometime 2012.

I'm pretty sure it's not hard to type in google "world of darkness mmo release date".

Sometimes I wish there was a noob-filter incorporated into the internet.

The noob filter secret is: dont reply if you think its too stupid to reply too, and btw, he was just asking a question, no need to get inpolite m8 :)

I expect they'll at least say something and show something (some kind of trailer) at the Grand Masquerade event in October.

They've already announced that they will be showing something on WoD at the Grand Masquerade and it's on the schedule so that's a pretty safe expectation =P

I am already sick to DEATH of this new cash shop model. You can potentially spend much more money with it than a monthly subscription. And most games FORCE it on you since it is pretty much their sole means of funding by making you barely able to advance going to free route only.

Yeah agreed. Also item shops tend to expand as time passes , so shop is getting worse and game are wrapped more and more about spending money in cash shop as game matures.

World of Darkness is going to be microtransaction F2P or some sort of hybrid model based from the start :/

Wtf is wrong with the OP ?

They said they started developing it ... which means its still years away. Making a game is a task that usually requires at least 4, more likely 5 to 7 years.

Granted, there are games that have been made faster, like KotoR2. But the state of that game easily speaks for itself, doesnt it ?

WoD will come, but dont hold your breath just yet for it.

    1) There is a entire forum for it here now. Been there for a month or more.

    2) They've been working on this title since 2006. Work was done in bits and pieces until around a year or so ago.

    3) This and more information is in a thread in the forum mentioned in #1.

If I had to hazard a guess you'll see a beta mid to late next year with either a holiday season (october/halloween) launch or a launch 1st or early 2nd quarter 2013.

Again, just because some folks here don't know about it doesn't mean CCP hasn't been working on it. They have.
