During PAX 2011, MMORPG.com's Carolyn Koh and Bill Murphy each had a chance for a hands on look at the just-revealed WildStar. Each has their own impressions to offer about Carbine's inaugural title. Read on and then let us know what you think.
For this demo, we had a choice of three characters. A Granok (a large hulking humanoid) Warrior, a Human Spellslinger complete with guns to help sling those spells, and the aforesaid purple-haired bunny girl which was an Aurin Esper: a character that uses mind magic or telekinesis (read: crowd control). After we picked the character, we had a choice of four character paths: Explorer, Scientist, Soldier and Settler. The titles describe themselves pretty well and the character path chosen will determine the character's quest lines and role in society on the alien planet.

Theme park sandbox .. hmmm ..
It could work.
Look to the stars to know HE is with us. HE hung them as markers, of times and of seasons.
Looking really good so far. Can't wait for some more info.
Kind of gives me a Phantasy Star Online vibe..... not really sure why.. but just can't shake it.
Even the way you explain the single skill that equates to the multiple combos like the weapons in PSO/U.
MAN! If this was a Pixar movie I would totally love it!
Can already see me buying the ticket for IMAX 3D
Spent a LOT of time at this booth during PAX simply because the adjacent GW2 booth was so friggin packed. The devs were supremely cool and incredibly excited to explain the game, even with their voices missing from shouting over the crowds for three days straight.
It's one thing to have great PR people hype the game, but I really enjoyed having the lead artist walking me through the game and explaining why he decided to do things the way he did. Since the game looks so bloody good, I couldnt really argue with his choices.
Added to the watch list for me, they sold me when they said "It's basically Firefly meets Babylon 5."
Pass..
Looks cool, definitly worth watching.
"Its better to look ugly and win than pretty and lose"
Thanks for the info, definitly interested in checking this game out a bit more throughly, I want some info on the crafting and resource gathering!
Mess with the best, Die like the rest
there should be a better way of explaining something then by saying themepark sandbox, what the heck are we suppose to think that is, none the less its very good read.
Combat is sounding better with each read on WildStar. Dodging and being rewarded in combat and using jump to explore sound sweet.
Damn
I was hoping the actual game looked like that cool trailer
What?! The art style is the exact same as the screens and gameplay footage, albeit less intense than the trailer.
But when has a game been as epic and intense as their cinematic trailers?
Style yes. But it doesn't look as nearly as good. Which is understandable off course.
Interested in following this game... but "WildStar"?? There's only one Wildstar... and that's Derek Wildstar. Dangerous ground you're treading

Usually not fond of cartoonish graphics but this looks really nice and I look forward the game play.
Thanks for the 2 sided interview.
GJ!
How instanced is it?
"Train by day, Joe Rogan podcast by night, all day!"
Looking forward to more information on this one.
It should be mine.
My blog about (no more)MMORPG Addicted - a bog about videogames, cinema, politics and other things (in Italian)
Well-written, informative review. I particularly enjoyed the split perspective approach. After watching the video for this game the other day, I must say it has really drawn my attention. It has that same brightly coloured cartoon-style graphics, tongue-in-cheek look that I remember from my days in WoW, but with a refereshing sci-fi approach which is a welcome change from fantasy.
It sounds interesting.
