I'm petering out on playing Rift now. I'm in the best gear in Rift and all it takes me to kill a Rank 4 players is 3 button presses.
Valor in Rift has honestly ruined pvp for me. It is so overpowered and so signifigant whether or not you wear Valor gear that it makes pvp either extremely hard and unfair or in my case extremely easy and unfair to the poeple i fight.
Honestly these kinds of BS moves by corportations to make me grind out 2 sets of gear is ruining these mmo's for me. I quit Wow pretty shortly after Resilience was implemented.
I pray to God that GW2 really holds to their promises of equalizing gear in Warfronts and not having any type of valor stat on any gear.
I dont mind losing to a higher or lower leveled player, but when a equally leveled toon comes at me with 40% damage mitigation because of some arbitrary stat that ruins it for me.
What I have found even worse is to be the guy with 40% dmg mitigation..........kinda loses the fun when you know you'll win.
Ps. not to troll but did Bioware decided to do anything different than WOW? I mean serious, this is rediculous. Rift was obviously a WOW clone but I excpected more from Bioware. Maybe after the last Dragon Age though I shouldnt have. (recycled dungeons anyone?)

Maybe you didn't read or hear the 10983897912 billions references to the "10%" rule for PvE/PvP gear Bioware is doing for SWTOR?
PvP gear will be 10% better then PvE gear for PvP.
PvE gear will be 10% better then PvP gear for PvE.
Skill/strategy/coordination > all.
And yes, GW2 is balancing out gear in PvP and balancing out levels in PvP so that you will never 2-3 shot someone. Ever.
Skill > stats by a factor of about 10 to 1 in GW2.
In SWTOR it looks to be a little more heavy on the gear side, but even in instanced PvP in SWTOR there is auto-level balancing.
10% isn't much, but for a power-gamer min/maxer, 10% is EVERYTHING when all else is made equal.
Yeah, Rift started with 20% dmg mitigation but the pvp's complained that raiders were out dpsing them so hard that pvp gear was useless so Rift bumped valor up to 40% soft cap now.
You telling me Stwors won't increase the mitigation every couple of patches? You're kidding yourself.
Obvious trolling here. Either that or you can't read (which wouldn't be a stretch considering your grammar).
Not if they don't have to, no.
It really does depend on how much they scale the gear between patches/new content etc.
If it's like WoW where you get 10% increases or more in power per patch cycle then yes, you have to make the PvP gear keep up.
Unfortunately that also ruins PvP and PvE because it becomes nothing more then a gear treadmill.
I hope Bioware doesn't make the same mistake and instead gives us Horizontal progression.
If you want to play PvP and have a grudge with valor etc, then go and look for a PvP-centric MMO to begin with I'd suggest.
Having different types of gear is pretty much obvious in a gear-based MMO like the ones you mentioned, isn't it?
PvP has been tested for months... MONTHS... and there are many thousands of players currently testing.
Are you telling me that with all the new patches, and all of the balancing that is going on in said patches, that they'll increase the mitigation when they haven't even after months of testing and coming to the 10% conclusion? You're kidding yourself.
Ive been in testing for over a month..ur all wrong...nuff sd.
Problem with WoW is that cap between PvP start gear and final gear has gone too wide. If I would need to guess I would say difference between preraid gear and final PvP gear is somewhere near 40% in SWTOR. But then again point of system is to emulate skill growth, been owned by some n00b kid after years of playing because he has more skill isn't fun. And I'm pretty sure that what the big audience wants, you know those people who probaply don't read sites like this. Thats why people watch sport, not to cheer but to look if some "golden boy" fails and injure permanently. Nothing more satisfying to put kids sleep than think how that "golden boy" will end up in ditch with alcoholism and STD. Cocky bastard who had better fingers, "maybe you should have finished school instead of taking that million dollar deal, look who is winner now" you probaply think when you get next to your increasingly fluffy wife that only gives sex every sunday. Ah well gives you more time playing MMO other days.
I disagree on the comments about GW2. Like GW1, the class-->skill selection system limits the players chances of success.
I dont understand why people see that as Balanced.
Since it is proven from the first game,,, that no matter HOW SKILLED A PLAYER MAY BE,,,,
THAT PLAYER WILL NEVER BEAT A NON SKILLED PLAYER IF THEY WERE TO USE A CRAPPY BUILD...
and there are many ways to make crappy builds when you have many skills to select with few slots to use them in. Nothing is balanced there when it comes to skill. the players with the best build will most of the time win against even the most skilled players.
Builds in GW2 replace the PvP Gear from this point of view on PvP Balance.

I think that what you just did is called projecting I think that most people watch sports to root for their hometeam, or to see the better team win (if they are not fan of either team in the match). Most people hate to see players injure themselves.
While seeing someone fail in an unusual way can be funny, it is not the main reason that most players watch imo.
In my experience only people who are unhappy about their own lives like to see misery in other people's lives.
I'm glad you've played it so much to know how balanced it is or isn't, Thanks for your input. If we were to go by what "Past" games have told us... shitty graphics and endless gear grind would = 12 million subs... how has that worked out? You know going by past and all?
"Sometimes people say stuff they don''t mean, but more often then that they don''t say things they do mean"
Don't worry just like GW1 soon everyone will just copy paste build from GW wiki. Cookie cutter builds trying to kill eachother in PVP at that point it will be about who can make better macros and turn faster with keyboard.
I dont like to see any gear stats progression in PVP. I rather like to see some kind of trophies you can decorate your gear with. Trophies that represent the amount of wins or tournament wins. That will be an extra incentive for other people to be even more focussed to take those players/teams down At the same time it puts the players/teams with many trophies under extra pressure, trying not to lose against noobs
For PVE I dont care really, I just like to see alternate paths to PVE gear. So that the endgame has more variety.
It is an e-sport, so there will be hundreds of guides on how to play and what to build ala League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth and soon to be DOTA 2. Doesn't stop me from winning 66% of my games doing my builds. Guides just help bad players learn to play and where they go from there is up to them. If said cookie cutter build was OP and the only way to go i'm sure it would get nerfed... if it was okay and other builds were just bad... they will get buffed. Pretty standard practice.
"Sometimes people say stuff they don''t mean, but more often then that they don''t say things they do mean"
The concept of resilience is to hinder the PvE queens decked with latest tier gear from annihilating players with no access to such items. This was the main reason it got implemented by Blizzard and it worked pretty well in my opinion.
Anyway, i don't grasp why you're so frustrated about this issue. And your comment about GW2 only makes your post look like dozen others on these boards projecting the "GW2 is better than TOR" mantra.
My comment was regarding making crappy builds and good builds in GW2. There wasn't much variety left in GW 1 because of copy paste cookie cutter builds and i would expect the same to happen in GW2.
I highly doubt you played GW1 a lot. You talk as if GW1 pvp is about 1vs1. While its focus is on 8vs8. If you enter pvp and didnt even think about creating a good teambuild, then yes you have little chance on winning. You could also make sure to lower your chances by bringing a staff as warrior and warriorskills as caster. Does that make the game unbalanced too?
And your remark about players with the best build. Yes, usually the winners play the most popular build at that time. But those players are never players who are bad at pvp. As noob team you stand no chance against a good team in GW1, no matter what build. I even doubt that your healers get one good heal off
You might be right here. But one difference I think is that GW2 will ask for more individual skill. The dodging, free aiming for AOE skills and agile moving seems to make GW2 a lot more twitchbased then GW1. There is some of that in GW1, but there was it more dependant on profession you played (interrupts, hammerwarrior etc).
haha you conpletely contradict your argument by the red which agrees with what I said. So I dont see where your comment about a doubt that I ever played GW1 comes from, because you agreed with what I said in Red.
I can guarantee, that I can come up with a build for your so called SKILLED TEAM, that would make you lose every single time to even the most NOOB of teams. There is no balance in such a system, and you know it.

Your last post in this thread made your OP seem somewhat less genuine, though, as in more like looking for something to bash SWTOR with than being openminded and discuss SWTOR features openly.
