The PS Vita has better technology, but if it is still going to be released at the current estimated price, it will cost about $70 US more than the 3DS. 3DS is apparently getting a price cut within the next few months.

Now, I'm getting both. However, if I were to go by the previous generation, I'd prefer a Nintendo product. My PSP has 6 games and my DS has 30+. The 3DS is much more powerful than the DS is, it's not just "a DS with 3D capabilities". It is a new generation, don't let anyone convice you otherwise.

It is not, however, as poweful as the Vita. Vita has better technology behind it and is capable of more, while the 3DS is capable of decent graphics and the 3D is entirely optional. You wouldn't be paying money for a 3D feature you aren't going to use, you'd be paying money for a new handheld which supports DS games and 3DS games.

However, if you are a fan of the games that Sony caters to, you'd prefer a Vita. If you are a fan of classic Nintendo games, you'd prefer the 3DS. I'm going to go ahead and list what facts I know without my personal opinion (which is both have strengths and weaknesses).

Dont listen to any of these people. It depends on your style of play, if you play pokemon, mario, or zelda games, (or any other less popular games on nintendo) i would get a 3ds. The 3ds Does NOT hurt your eyes unless your playing for over an hour straight with the 3d thing all the way up, if you turn it like in the middle or just barely up from the bottom, the 3d works perfectly fine and doesnt hurt your eyes. (i would still recomend taking a 5 minute break after like 90 minutes of playing though, even on the PSP vita i would recomend this). The 3DS has updates that you can download straight from the 3DS, and you can buy games online.

    IMPORTANT:

The 3DS will be price dropping on August 13th to $170. Now if you want to play other games that are exclusive to the psp, which most games on the PSP you cannon have on the 3ds. Obviously you should go for that, especially since you can now play with people on the ps3. Also, you can download games online with the PSP Vita, you can also do the same on the 3DS. Honestly, unless you want to play games exclusive to the PSP, get the 3DS.

    PSP Vita of course!

Nintendo 3DS is just a failure, and has shown to affect the people and give headaches after hours of playing. There's no reason why you should by a Nintendo 3DS. Even EA says 3D games are losing, and are not going well. PSP Vita is nice, it has PS3-like graphics, touch screen on the back of the handheld device, good social community, and of course, really decent.

PSP VITA. Why? Uncharted that is all.

Its a really tough call.  I dont own either or plan on owning ether but iv played psp's and I really love the technoligy behind glassesless 3D.  Glassless 3D alone for me would be my first choise as I support technloigy I like and that is one of my favorites.  Soon laptops will have the same tech in them.

Well ones not out and one is, so im not sure what you expect to get.

    On that note, VITA.

Well since im a sony fan, you should know my answer lol. i would say the Vita of course. only because i know the 3DS sucks. my friends who have it, get headaches if they play to long, and you have to be real close to the screen in order to get a good 3D effect. the vita looks pretty awesome though. i was thrilled with the psp graphics so im sure this is goin to be a little better. the only thing that sucks, as with the PSP GO!, its download only. so i have all these UMDs for the psp, that wont be able to be played on the vita. the vita has that touch pad on the back, which i dont know exactly how it can be used, i just know in the commercial for it, it was raising the terrain to move a ball around the screen.

Both of 'em were good consoles. It would be better if you buy them both and try it yourself. image

It totally depends on your gaming prefernce, for me the Vita is better suited.

The system is meaningless for the most part.  Nowadays everyone has a cell phone, a billion computers, TVs, DVRs, etcetera.. so the only thing it really comes down to is -- the games.

That being said, my choice would be Nintendo, as I'm never really excited over Sonys exclusives.  I have all consoles currently,  and plan to get the next generations as they come,  but I got much more use out of my DS than my PSP,  and I expect to get plenty of more use out of my 3DS than my Vita... (well not really, honestly my phone has become my number 1 mobile gaming platform -- android FTW)

But aside from that,  its a matter of game preference.  I sadly admit I enjoy the pokemon series,  also, metroid, mario kart, zelda - and so on,  they've been my mainstays for years on handhelds, and they are just fun to play.

I have no quams about the nintendo 3DS but i'm not a fan of dual screen and opening ang closing of a portable console. I wanted something that I can already see when I hold the console. I think the PSP Vita suit my taste in portable gameplay.

When you need something to amuse the kiddies, 3DS.  When you are looking for an adult handheld, Vita.  Just kidding to all the Nintendo fans.  But seriously it's like comparing the Wii vs PS3.  Do you want something with a gimmick (3DS)? Or do you prefer a solid gaming platform(Vita)?

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

I would (and am) going with the VITA. I mean...the Persona 4 Remake is going to be on there, how awesome is that?

That and...I just am starting to find Nintendo games less and less entertaining :p

Graphics on the VITA are supposed to be really nice as well, so...I would say go for the VITA, if you don't like it then so be it, trade it in for a 3DS along with your games. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I used to have a PSP... they say it has improved a lot but I dont think so when i looked at it. Nintendo 3DS has shown to affect the people and give headaches after hours of playing. I mean i would have chose the 3ds but because of that id take the PSP.

Just by a ps3 or xbox lol. Also 3Ds is just a nintendo ds with 3D and apparently a better shop (eshop). PS vita looks pretty promising with great graphics and a great lineup. Also, the controls look good for a handheld.

i would never buy a 3ds, should see what they want you to agree to in thier agreement when you buy one. google it, one of wich is the fact that they own every pic you take with the damn thing. and if you ever put in a modded cartridge they will send out a signal and brick it, and they don't know if they could unbrick it themselves. i own a psp, i like the newer ones better looked like it had exact ps controls with the 2 sticks, not sure how i feel about the touch screen on the back tho.

It's like your comparing a little bit of a different kind of ball game. I know they are same console but they different in a lot of ways in terms of looks and features. Lets look at their large console the wii and ps3.

Wii are most likely have a taste for family type of genre and has an appeal for kids, its general patronage kind of a console. As for PS3 a classy type of a console and its genre is most likely 13 and above and appealing for young adults.

If we look on the portable side of their console its just the same kind of thing.

The Name "PSP Vita" makes it sound like its some kind of high fibre bran cereal for old people....

    PC!

  • odinsrathodinsrath Member UncommonPosts: 814

neither imo ..handhelds get old and stale really REALLY quick..and paying 40+ for a new handheld game is a bit over the top for me atleast..but people say ya! but you can take it on trips and stuf! ..i say well ya..but your going on a trip! anyways nowadays there are things that you can buy to carry your console in your car / rv and much cheaper ..imo i just find handhelds a bunch of waste of money ...if i had to choose tho..id go with the sony..cuz sony always puts out titles..nintendo is natorious for stoping to  make or slowing down of the market on handheld type games and before you know it..bam they have a new one on the market...i think this is their 6 or 7th handheld system

This is no argument, you can remove the 3d effect at any time you want.

While the vita is definetly the (much) stronger piece of technology, I find nintendo consoles and handhelds to be fun. Gaming is not all about looks and serious games, at least not to me. But in the end we can't decide for you. They are very different in both hardware and software and you should take whichever one you expect to enjoy more.

I think it comes down entirely to what you're looking for in gaming. It's really the same choice we had years ago looking at the PSP or DS. Look at the games and see which has a library of games you're looking for. Nintendo and Sony definitely have different intended audiences as far as I can see age-wise.

Personally, I would choose the Vita if only because I have no consoles and have found that many times the Sony games just tend to be ports of other console games while the Nintendo ones are more individualized for the system (Ocarina notwithstanding).

3DS is miles better than PSP Vista (even though I've never played the latter).3DS has 3D capabilities-PSP vista is only 2D and compared to 3D,2D is boring. 3DS is an excellent console I love the new analogue stick, it makes gameplay much easier i intend on buying one soon. The Nintendo 3DS is the latest handheld gaming console from Nintendo with a real 3D gaming experiance without the need for any 3D glasses! While viewing the units screen head on, provides a great 3D gaming experiance however if you turn you head slightly to the side while looking at the screen causes a ghosting effect.

    NEITHER!!!

    Screens are too small :(

*mumbles and curses about old age and bad eyesight....*

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Yup, I agree to this. But then and there need to have each of this portable console but which one?

I prefer style but not so fancy. I think I'll go for PSP Vita, looks cool and nice.
