You know, the funny thing is, the SAME PEOPLE who go to a tantrum, attacked me and cry aloud "not one day delay of TOR for Same Gender Romance Acrs!" now call for lenience for Bioware, even if the game is delayed into NEXT YEAR for dubious, unnamed changes.
That's called double moral standard.
Seriously dude, get over it.
You ask me to ignore an injustice. That is something I can not do. I won't bring this in everywhere, since I am not Cato the Elder. But where it is logical, I shall bring this injustice in as long as it remains unanswered. For the next 20 years, if needed, I shall bring this injustice to be known.
For what it's worth I agree with you and am disappointed with ktanner for his flippant replies.

I am happy they're making this decision. I don't know why so many people are upset that it has stopped. Just goes to show that more people only care about playing the game instead of testing it and when the game releases unfinished those same people wonder why they aren't having any fun.
It's called a beta TEST for a reason. They don't just come out and say "Hey guess what? You're getting to play the game early because you're special."
Hopefully their new build will fix most of the major bugs and make the game smooth for launch.
Didn't one of the BioWare founders say something about the weekends continuing in to October (I remember everyone freaking out and saying the game couldn't possibly release before the end of the year if they were still testing in October)?
Ya know, they only have to have two testing weekends in September to be true to what they "promised".
They just need one before month's end (and the 30th is conveniently on a Friday) to do that. I don't know why everyone assumed they would be every weekend. I don't remember anyone ever saying that.
Maybe I missed something, I dunno. I doubt they want to cancel them altogether, I just took Stephen Reid's post as a laying of the ground for a worst-case-scenario and an effort to get people to be more realistic in their expectations.
I'm starting to think I fail in my interest for this game because I'm not screaming blue murder about every little thing other people seem to feel entitled to.
I have a CE on pre-order and I don't think BioWare owe me a darned thing, except that they release the game at some point before the end of the year. That's it.
Not to disappoint the fans, but this news of a delay /new build does in fact lend one to believe that the code isn't to a quality level necessary to launch this year.
I release new builds all the time, and each is successively more stable than the last and requires less testing, not a reset back to the beginning. My conclusion is the new build is adding additional, previously untested functionaltiy and if so it's pretty late in the release cycle to be doing so.
At this point one would expect to see defect fix builds only as they poiish it up for release in November, and it sounds like the beta testing this past weekend gave them enough to work on for another month or so.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing, the game shouild not ship until it's ready and if 2012 is the date (one that I've always believed was more realistic) than so be it.

I was under the impression the main focus of the new build was to add localisation for a couple EU languages, it's a big change that would require a new build, but wouldn't impact the actual game that much.
I assume at some point they'll publish a build that will remove all kinds of debugging code too, there are lots of reasons for publishing builds; doesn't mean the sky is falling.

Ye right.I guess they invite people to bugtest the game over a weekend. Think a bit before you actually post your random thougts.

My understanding is that the build they used to betatest over the weekend was an older build but was the most stable.

If SWTOR is delayed until next year, fine by me. I'll just buy the Elder Scrolls Skyrim game... It should occupy me long enough. It's not the end of the world and if the MMO is better for such a delay then great. But they really started the hype mobile a year too early. Lol. The fan anxiety is a sweet thing.
Not to disappoint the fans, but this news of a delay /new build does in fact lend one to believe that the code isn't to a quality level necessary to launch this year.
They do new builds every couple of weeks in beta. Saying that is being pretty ignorant to how the development process works. I bet they have 3-4 new builds after this one before the game is released this year.

"You are a valued community member and we want to make sure you didn't miss the opportunity to benefit from pre-order bonuses. Pre-order stock is quickly selling, so hurry to ensure you lock in your Early Game Access."
The beta weekends are basically an early trial, done probably for stress testing purposes, most people who play it won't look at it as a beta, looking for bugs and submitting feedback. They will look at it as an early trial.
BW is introducing a whole new build so they want to make sure the build is good, running it by the real beta testers before the "weekend trials" get ahold of it.
The weekend betas are a privilage, not a right. That is why they are invite only, and a schedual was never given, everyone just assumed it would be every weekend, I did too.
I don't think the 1st beta weekend bombed, from what I've been hearing.

Thats not beta, thats early access. Typically it begins a few days before the official release. You are playing the released game, but only earlier than those that did not preorder, your characters dont get deleted like they would in beta either.
Just to be clear then - TOR games allow the player to murder, steal and extort with a wanton disregard for all things moral. Andl that is ok, but the devs are discriminating because they have chosen, in a fully voiced interactive online product, not to cater to 10% of the population with same sex virtual fantasies? Entitlement mentality - thanks LBJ.

If you pay attention to the sudden loss of stuff from the game. They axed a few things that they have said will be in game at launch for over two years, moving those things back to some time after launch, you get an idea that something in the last build broke. So they had to redo the build. My issue with all this is, back four of five months ago the developers stopped working on the game as a whole and started focusing a lot more on making it pretty and adding in mini game crap like hutt ball. If the game wasn't ready at that point then they should have been working on making the game ready. Making it pretty and adding mini game crap is the last thing you should do before launch.
If this news was bad for you, do yourself a favor and don't look at anything about the economy. If you think a delay with SWTOR (which you can do nothing about one way or the other, so why stress about it) is bad news, the economy is gonna blow your mind. ;-)
In all seriousness, if a delay is what they need, then maybe they need come clean and say that. My suspicion is this: they are looking at their options right now, and determining if they need to delay launch. While most suspect they will, the dev team and corporate need to talk it out. Bet your ass there are a lot of meetings going on right now. Their hype train was running, full speed ahead, and this sort of delay messes things up.
But, not being afraid to disappoint people pre launch, for me, trumps disappointing EVERYONE after launch. Wait a year (which would suck) but give me a good, polished, finished game, and inthe end, I will be happy.
I am happy they're making this decision. I don't know why so many people are upset that it has stopped. Just goes to show that more people only care about playing the game instead of testing it and when the game releases unfinished those same people wonder why they aren't having any fun.

It was a stress test.
Exactly. And stress test require you to just login and play.Nothing more nothing less. And ofcourse report any hardware issues that wont let you play the game.
A) You seem to be assuming that these betas are for marketing purposes rather than, I dunno, beta testing. You seem to assume they HAVEN'T been working on the new build all along. They just need internal testing on it and then they can start the wider beta tests again. C) I disagree entirely with your assertion that this was in any way "cold." It was honest and it told it like it is.
A= I assumed this after the recent announcement. Before the post i assumed the needed to test their infrastructure and wanted to get more feedback from fresh eyes.
B= I am sure they are but to use that as an excuse means your not as far into the final build as you thought. I am trying to open this up for discussion. Its pretty close to release time. I want to hear your thoughts on cancelling further testing.
C= The cold was the tone of the voice. He offered no apology and gave no reassurance whatsoever. He was brutally honest and basically did not try and save any face.
Again this can only be a good thing. I was curious what other people thought about this topic. Like i said originally if they need more time, stop beating around the bush. I am getting the impression they aren't as close to a "release build" as they are letting everyone believe.
Last, Why is everyone telling people to calm down. I see very few people "freaking out" I am here on a gaming forum to discuss recent events to a game. I am in no way emotionally upset.
Any thoughts? looks like the game will be delayed yet again. Maybe around spring 2012 imo.
The problem with jumping to the extreme conclusion that you do is that we would have to assume they didn't anticipate that this is how they would work there beta tests and nothing suggests that yet.
I am happy they're making this decision. I don't know why so many people are upset that it has stopped. Just goes to show that more people only care about playing the game instead of testing it and when the game releases unfinished those same people wonder why they aren't having any fun.

it does sound pretty bad. To go from "September beta weekends" to "we may not have another test in September" (aka our shits messed up)
I don't care since I don't have a beta invite. haha
