Arguing about NOTHING

just1opinionjust1opinion Member UncommonPosts: 4,641

I have come to the conclusion in all this SWTOR vs. GW2 bullshit, that people must be very very bored.  We spend hours in threads arguing....over NOTHING.

ArenaNet has already said things will be "thus and so" way and someone decides they don't agree....with the developer....and they're going to argue about it.  Same thing with SWTOR.  I mean seriously how bored, or stupid, do you have to be to argue over things that are already established as fact.  Both games have myriads of threads like this.  We're drowning in them.

Maybe the PvP'ers are just sowing their oats because they're competitive and they don't know what to do when they can't be fighting with other players, so they come here to do that?  I'm leaning toward this explanation.

Do you like to argue JUST for the sake of arguing, even if you KNOW you're WRONG?  I suspect this too and that a lot of the threads are trolling for hyper vigilant responses from fans of either game.

Ultimately my question is this.....what mental pathology does it require to want to argue something when you can be proven wrong by facts in existence and yet....you continue to argue anyway?  I really want to know.

So you start a thread to argue about it......unbelievable.......

You must really value your opinions..oops...facts.

I'm sorry, but I must point out your reply is left field and from reading it, seems there is miscomprehension with the OP's message...

Correct me if I am wrong, but the intent of the above message is to open the floor about: why do we argue over hard facts? The titled MMORPG is used as reference material, only.

On topic: It's my belief that people discuss these issues to vent their frustration. Only through views of other players may their opinion be strengthened or altered.

Yes, you understood my question. It really baffles me.

And apparently the other fellow that responded THINKS I'm in some way referring to him, which I was not.  Amazing.  At least it appears to be a response laced with the feeling that he is somehow personally offended.  I'm SO sorry I offended you with my thread question.  I assure you that was not my intent.  And what facts are you referring to as "my facts?" That's a bit confusing.  I don't think I've put forth any facts, just a question.

I spent well over a year in forums about SWG discussing and debatings 100s of different things before release. I ended up playing it just a few months. I also spent quite awhile getting excited about AoC and barely played that as well.

I've learned my lesson about MMOs. I'll read the headlines, but wait until post release before paying any real attention to them.

You start a thread complaining about people not listening to your facts. Calling pvp'rs stupid and bored?. Read your post again if you dont understand what you said.

Just looks like a major troll thread from the beginning.

There IS no "MY facts."  Facts are either factual or they're not.  I'm not talking about arguing opinions here, I'm talking about facts AS STATED BY DEVELOPERS.  I guess it could be the developers "opinion" that they aren't including raiding in their game, but I'd think they would know it as a FACT or not.  This has nothing whatsoever to do with opinions. Raiding is ONE example of facts put forth by developers and then argued over as if some gamer knows better than the developer WHAT is in their freaking game. Amazing.

So again.....why do people argue over this kind of stuff?  Thread after thread of it....arguing against what developers say about their games as if they have some superior knowledge of the dev's game.  ROFL

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

I thought I told you to keep quiet about that.  I really didn't want the whole world to know.  Remind me to scratch you off my list of "people to trust with unsavory information."

People are just looking for interaction with their peers i think, even if you aren't on a forum like this but with your real life friends don't you end up debating things in some form or another even if its something pointless.

i dunno, people just wanna talk..even if its like this, even if its arguing about nothing.  just my opinion.

Scalebane, I think the majority of the time you're probably right.  But some of the time it's just trolls wanting to troll the shit outta threads.

It's weird indeed. Considering that both games will fail.

  • FoomerangFoomerang Member UncommonPosts: 5,628

Some people identify themselves through MMOs on this site. They have invested so much time researching a game that it becomes a part of them. Once that happens, objectivity goes out the window. So for example, if I attach myself to GW2 and someone thinks that game is stupid, I perceive them as thinking I'm stupid. I take it personally that they don't like a video game and lash back. It basically just exponentiates from there.

For sake of argument, what would be considered a fail?  Like Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault fail, or DDO or Anarchy Online fail?  Or are you talking SWG NGE fail?

Im gonna go out on a limb and say it was more of a "you took the bait" fail.

So I guess this whole GW2 vs SWTOR arguement has become so pervasive that it is now bleeding over into the off topic section.image
