Should I sell my DeadRising 2 and buy Dead Island??

I bought DeadRising 2 Zombrex Edition for $27.00, the price of the original, because some dude kept some stuff from the box. I played it at a friends house, enjoyed it deeply, so that's why I bought it. Shortly thereafter l realized the game was only fun when you had cool outfits, awesome weapons, millions of dollars, and a dead daughter. I have only played it like 6 times, and I really found it disappointing. So should I sell it back, and then buy Dead Island? I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Thanks.

By the way, so, would Left 4 Dead be a good purchase also? My brother is always pestering me to buy certain games, and Left 4 Dead looks good too. Think I'll do that.

Should you trade a turd for a pile of gold?

    Answer is simple!

    :EDIT:

Wait, title says "Dead Island" yet the body of your message says Left 4 Dead.  I'm confused.

My friend & I played halfway through Dead Rising 2 and then stopped (we regularly play l4d2 co-op which just got extra campaigns added to it lately) when Dead Island arrived I was intrigued but more interested in the looming Space Marine (which is great) and thought I would give DI a miss.

My friends exact comment to me the other day when I asked him how he was finding Dead Island was:

"This game is what Dead Rising 2 should have been"

so I guess thats a pretty good endorsement.

UPDATE: we both play on PC not console, all versions of DI seem to have bugs (PS3 being worst) so I am holding off purchasing for the moment.

Dead island isn't a bad game alot of fun with more people make sure they fixed the issues if your planning on getting it for ps3. The xbox version is less glitchy not to say it doesn't have alot of random issues but still fun despite them

Dead Island has its pitfalls just like every other zombie-based game out there.

    1) It's basically a cross between borderlands (quests, talent trees, stolen from WoW), dead rising (weapon modding and customization), left 4 dead (4-player drop in/out co-op + "special" infected), and has a similar opening to every zombie movie you've ever seen. This doesn't make it a bad game, but this should give you an idea of what it's like. It is an RPG, and you level up by killing zombies to gain skill points.

    2) There is NO SPLIT-SCREEN co-op play. It's only LAN/System Link play and online co-op. Unless your friends want to bring their 360s/ps3s to your house, you'd better play something else.

    3) It's much slower-paced than games like Left 4 Dead and Dead Rising. It's more about survival and planning, plus plenty of exploring and looting.

    4) It looks pretty, plays nice and fluid. Online lag is really annoying and can easily get you killed, but that all depends on the host of the server and doesn't happen often.

Overall I'd give it a 7/10. The DLC coming out this month (Bloodbath Arena) will be adding new weapons + a "horde-mode" like Gears of War/CoD Zombies, so that'll be worth it all by itself, I think.

Both games rock... If you did everything in DR2 then trade it in.

Personally I own both games and enjoy them very much.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

Dead Island might last you 4 days if you're lucky.

Dead Island in my opinion is far better than Dead Rising 2.

Also Left 4 Dead 2 is also a must have but only if you play online, it's not really much of an experiance single player as the AI that controls the other characters is pretty ordinary.

LOL, you found it fun, played it multiple times, and *then* you find it disappointing. And lol @ a dead daughter, that is actually so true in a way.

Anyway, Dead Island is actually somewhat similar in terms of pacing and style to Dead Rising 2. (Partly) free roam, focus on melee combat, saving survivors, weapons break easily, every weapon is throwable, etc. It does have more RPG elements to it though, having to loot things more and carry a bunch of weapons. Have you ever played Borderlands? It's kind of like Borderlands combined with Dead Rising.

I don't know what your preferences are when it comes to RPGs, so I can't really recommend it just so. It's a great game with some faults, and you'll only like it if you like this sort of games. (As in, you'll know you like it only when you play it for a couple of hours. I suggest renting it first.)

(By the way, when you play the game, analog combat is the way to go. Don't know why they don't default it to digital instead, since it's boring.)

On the other hand, Left 4 Dead is really fun, but it doesn't have the depth Dead Island or Dead Rising provides. You can almost say it's like comparing Call of Duty to Borderlands. Left 4 Dead is quick-paced, small maps, shoot and shove, etc. It's a lot of fun but it depends on your preferences. Personally I find either game to be fun to play with a good friend (especially a brother!), but Dead Island would last longer. The upside is that L4D is cheaper.

ALSO, don't buy L4D(or 2) just yet. Valve discounts their games like crazy. I got L4D2 for $5.00 before. I'm sure you can just wait for that to happen again, maybe on Thanksgiving or Christmas sales (which usually last a whole week or two).

Dead Island is a game I heard a lot about but wasn't sure about. I waited about a week after it came out to rent it but it was all checked out. So I ended going to Gamestop, Best Buy, Meijers, 2 Walmarts, and a Target before finally giving up to hearing "it's sold out". The next day I got it at Toys R Us. This game is plain fun. Dead island is better game, it's like borderlands and dead rising combined.

It's more fun with friends though. So I say you should sell the game and get dead island because you can do more things and you can replay the game like a couple of times. Also there isn't any time like in dead rising.

whoa killer, gross gross mistatement about quests and talent trees.  not stolen from WoW, has been around for ages.

I ended up buying Dead Island yesterday & played quite a few hours. Since I own DR2 and L4D2 and have now played DI the previous quote from my friend I mentioned in this thread certainly rings true:

"This game is what Dead Rising 2 should have been"

Dead Rising was a bit dissapointing to me and Dead Island plays pretty much exactly how I thought DR2 would play. My only annoyance with DI really is the fact that good weapons (IE: objects purpose built as weapons) wear down far too fast. I am carrying 6 blades and 1 blunt all level 5+ weapons (most fully upgraded) with high durability and feel like I am forever repairing them.

Beyond that the game is a lot of fun.

If it's boring to you now, then yes, I think you sell it for whatever you can get for it. It's better to have money in your pocket than to hold onto something you are not likely to ever use again. It's not like it's going to become a collector's item or anything - at least not until like 50+ years from now..

Here's my feedback to these games based on my experience:

DI has a nice (if a bit predictable story) and above all: No time limits. It is more like Borderlands and you don't slaughter hordes of zombies as in DR2 or L4D2 bur rather smaller yet tougher groups.

DR2 is great for having just a fun zombie slaughterfest, it doesn't try to stay serious and that is good. The timer is annoying to no end.

L4D2 has no story, no crafting, no character advancement and the only mode worth playing is versus as one of the infected.

  • GennieGennie Member Posts: 5

Dead Rising is great and all but time limit was aggrevating don't know if i spelled that right but, Dead Island is true free roam a few timed missions is to be expected but constant time limit is annoying. not to mention first person will have more suprise's as you don't have a good view all around your character like in dead rising.

Not to mention different kinds of zombies not just the gas zombies (zombies beefed up by the gas) zombies and psychos, dead island has ALOT of zombies not to mention multiple merchants bigger gameplay area and 4 player co-op.

So, i would suggest that you just keep your DR and buy DI.. image

I'm renting Dead Island from Redbox cause at the moment I dont have 60 bucks for the game (Mainly cause I beat them so fast, makes no sense to spend the money).. but freaking loving this game. Much Much more than Dead Rising (though still a great game).  The first person is great for the game cause while your gearing up to hit that poor dead bastard infront of you, you have zero clue that one who isnt so "hurt" is running like a friggin banshee is running up on you from behind... the atmosphere of the game is just great in my opinion

If your on the fence, and have played Dead Rising 2 already.... Change games, play Dead Island. :)

  • ochocincoochocinco Member Posts: 4

Well Dead island is completly new, compared to dead rising, where you have to save the same old survivors, walk the same old world, and find the same old weapons in the same old places and ofcourse following the same old storyline.

But in their defence, they did include 3 new weapons and an amusement park and this time you can experience the story from Frank West, who turnend into a bastard that wanted some more screentime and fame.

Meh I liked Dead Rising 2, but the new DLC is a bit too...outdated and seemed so rushed

plus I am all in the hots for Dead Island.

If you are looking for legit reasons for buying Dead Island, check the many many many and may topics regarding it.

  • MaakuMaaku Member Posts: 90

Well, if you've done Dead Rising 6 times I'd say yes, go exchange it for another game. Dead Island is a good game if you like Zombie games... Besides that, quite average A mix between FarCry 1 & Dead Rising :p

Left4Dead 1 & 2 are really worth your money if you enjoy shooters and teamwork and killing hordes of zombies! Just SO fun!

I hated Dead Rising. Despite the brilliant concept, I just couldn't get over this idea of you're not expected to be able to complete the game on your first go. You have to play for a bit and level up, then start all over again and play for a bit more to level up and so on. And the fact that it's time sensitive. I hate games that give me any kind of time limit. Plus it was quite arcade-like in terms of the HUD, and the stupid save system.

Other than both games are about zombies I don't see any similarity to Dead Island at all (well maybe the HUD), which is something I'm very glad about.

Just traded in my Dead Island today (I went the console route), but I thought it was pretty damn good, just a little short on replay value and the looting isn't quite to the level of say Borderlands (I'm avoiding mmo referencing). I bled 70+ hours out of it before relenting to the fact I had done everything. Still, I'd recommend it!

Dead Island is one of the best multiplayer zombie games I've played.  I say multiplayer because Resident Evil or Silent Hill will always be the best (imho) for single player.  I have it for 360, and haven't seen any bugs, except my camera messed up once in a corner, and i lag death about once every 3-4 hours of playtime.  My friend has it for PS3, he says it's very choppy and has bugs.  I haven't been over to his house in awhile, so I can't tell you from my own experience...I told him to only buy games for 360 when they multiplatform lol.

Dead Rising in a lot of ways in terms of the seemingly pointless things you’re going to be doing while you play the game. But Dead Island made me for the first time really appreciate Dead Rising’s hook. I’m talking about that game’s ticking clock.

You’ll spend a lot of the game running around doing silly, non-urgent errands for random people you meet all over the island of Banoi, which is similar to what you do in the Dead Rising games. The difference, of course, is that the Dead Rising games put you on the clock, and so you can’t do everything and you have to focus on the most relevant objectives first. Just keep your cash and wait for another game that's worth your money.
