I love some of the language used in that post OP linked. Like "Players are quitting in droves." Droves??? If people were cancelling in droves that means there are droves of people playing the game.
And then there are the other comments that try to make it seem like this game ever had a population or future.
Hardcore rabid fans are seeing the writing, and they are last the last to leave. Sorry, guys, the "droves of players" never showed up - we were a tad too smart for this scam(trust me that's not saying much). Just way to wishful thinking on the part of these rabid fans who are finally throwing in the towel. We can't all be fast learners, I suppose.
Sorry, but being arrogant on the internet doesn't make you smart.
MO never had an enormous population, but within the sandbox niche it was a highly anticipated game. Quite a lot of people have tried it out, especially around launch but also when Dawn released (lots of vets returned to check it out). Any old-school MMO player interested in complex and challenging games would get hyped about the features that SV promised. That hey failed to deliver is another story.
So you should get down from that high horse of yours for a second. That you never tried MO and hated it from day one doesn't mean you're better or more intellegent than all those who really would like to see a game like MO succeed. It just means that you probably prefer other types of games.
1) OnLegends found a publisher willing to finance or purchase Mortal Online. Star Vault/OnLegends and the publisher are negotiating the contract and as such have entered into a communication freeze.
2) Star Vault is in its final days. Henrik is laying off the remaining staff and will shortly be filing for bankruptcy.
I'd much prefer the former since the game is unique and has the potential to be good. If this game had competent, experienced management and developers (something it probably never had), it could be developed into a really great game.
Or they went on vaction again. The last staff post was the day after Gamescom and since they were already in Cologne, why not make a holiday of it.
-As sad as that seems, it really is possible. SVC has a track record of taking vacations during unimportant times like right after release.
I still love how they wont work weekends... If that were my dads money I would personally be manning the server during weekends and acting as community manager for free and doing everything possible to cut the loss of m0oney and trust in the eyes of my father. I would live at the office if thats what it took.
Henrick has exibited all the signs of a spoiled brat who was given the keys to the candy store and ate everything and blamed someone else.
Well that depends...
Was the money provided as a loan to be paid back? If so, then I would definitely expect what you describe above, as he's accountable for it.
If it was more like his father saying 'Here, son... Here's some money to get you started. Go make a game. Don't worry if you fail, you don't have to pay it back", then I could definitely believe that he wouldn't take it as seriously.
People don't tend to value what they haven't had to work for.
Though, not knowing what the situation is.. It's hard to say either way.

The best outcome would be that the company that buys this POS turns it into someting better.
