I'll watch it but it will have a hard time in the US.

It's hard to explain but most of the gamers in the US seem to like the general actions of your player to be rooted in reality (to a degree).  So walking on water and extra-mystical stuff like that will begin to degrade a possible playerbase.  Must like super-sized weapons.

    umm.. what?

I've read some ridiculous posts in my time... but this one is up there.

Last i checked, you could walk on water in WoW, im pretty sure that didn't degrade the possible playerbase.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. I said we'll see more games that do not have levels ("levels" in the specific sense), but use skill gains as a replacement. So in other words, skills (aka abilities) become the new levels.

Did you think I said something other than that? I was fairly clear.

By a "game that truly does not have levels," I mean a game where you can jump in and be just as powerful as someone who has played for years.

You can at times with a player given buff but you can't just learn it as a base ability as well as learning how to run up walls.  WoW was "Come play in this epic new world with tons of lore and great gameplay".  This game is "come play our game where you can learn to run accross water and up walls".

    See the difference?

And where are you getting this information? I don't see that as their claim, from either company.

Looks nice, but because it is a tab/click targetting, its a turnoff for me. I'm progressively finding tab/click targetting combat boring and moving to the action style gameplay which is more interesting. Won't stop me from trying it out if there it is f2p.

No thanks, looks like MMO for teenage boys who are in that phase where everything martial arts is amazing and they want to be like that too.  The Asian theme bores me so.

A level is a level.  It's a measurement of your relative power to someone else.  Some are more successful at hiding the fact that they have "levels" (regardless of your context) but they still have them in one fashion.

This exact quote tree is all that I'm referring to. You said walking on water would be a turn off, he replied saying your post was absurd and that WoW had water walking, and you replied explaining their advertising strategies.

The combat looks pretty neat, and it will be free to check out, so why not?

If you don't get it, you don't get it.  PS.  They aren't direct quotes - I thought that was obvious.

It's a different style of game, I was stating some differences, however minor they may be perceived, which tend to turn off people I know.  Don't need to get all defensive and noble on me.

Even if i'm not a fan of chinese visual style, this game looks awesome and very innovative.

Take minigames for example: why oh why 95% of every MMO have dull profession in which you just have to click a button to craft ? SO BORING ! It's been years that i wonder why nobody use minigames for them so, you know, leveling professions would be... Fun!

Minigames generally require that people put conscious thought into what they're doing. Unless the end result is different, all minigames do is provide a speed bump between getting your stuff crafted and getting a sandwich made while it's crafting.

The step forward would be to break crafting from 'recipe lists' and allow people to combine just about anything they want.

That looks truely amazing.  Id be very interested in checking this game out in 2012.   I love original IPs like this.  Im also a fan of the traditional Asian cultures.    Very cool looking stuff.

Oh mechanic I think would be fantastic (perhaps in any mmo but especially this) is the ability to slowly teach other players what you've learned.  It would make seeking out player "masters" to hopefully become a student.  Whole schools could be built.   Just an idea.

  • bobfishbobfish Member UncommonPosts: 1,679

Been waiting for this for awhile, it is probably the first of the "next generation" of MMOs that are coming out of China. Whilst it may not innovate as much as some would wish, it does do quite a lot different and is a sign that the Chinese industry is starting to diversify, like the Korean one already has.

Now all we need is for the western industry to do the same, GW2 is a start, but so many developers are still stuck in the themepark mind-set.

SWG had that back in the day, it worked alright, the "master" needed the points gained from teaching to complete their profession and the "student" learned the skills.

    Its not exactly original IP.
The setting is loosely based upon a famous wuxia novel trilogy about Condor(thus why some factions and setting locations might seem familiar to mmo gamers), but does not exactly follow any kind of plot and instead allows players to build their own plot in the setting.

Okay yea, I get what you mean.

I meant for an mmo.  Seemed pretty original at least to me.  But you're right in that its not a novel concept.

A Wuxia mmo, I'm there, anything is better than tired ass Euro Fantasy. If I see one more elf  or dwarf I am going to seriously hurt someone. And to those that think that nobody here would like this. Please speak for yourselves, I love kung fu movies, especially the Wuxia ones. They are basically Chinese superhero movies with some history mixed in.

Though I still wish it was more like Zu Warriors instead of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, but I'm still going to be all over this game day one.

There are alot of kung fu movie fans here in the states, so please speak for yourself. And I am no teenager I am 35. Not everyone wants to keep playing tired rehashes of Lord of the Rings/Dungeons and Dragons. Sorry but some of us gaming nerds actually like to diversify our tastes and not limit ourselves to the same thing over and over again.

Why this time is different D&D with orange flavor, which makes it sooo much different from lemon flavored D&D! And next years grape flavored D&D is in NO way the same as the other two, why? Because *gasp* it has dynamic events and the elves are made from plants, and the gnomes really aren't gnomes, they are called Ashuras/Kokris/etc.

And in two years kids look out for pink lemonade D&D, which is different! Because the Dwarves are called Sowens and are in no way the same as normal Dwarves! The Sowens dont use hammer to mine they use baseball bats, with a hammer like end. So see that is in no way the same as a dwarf!

See how original and diverse we are with our themes!

    Nice find!

I'm no real fan of martial-arts MMO's, but from what I've seen in the movie, there's a lot I like. The idea ot your char becoming a NPC when you're off-line is very nice too.

Just curious. Why is it that only gPotato.EU has it, and not the US site? Okay, being from the EU, I just siggned up, so I'll keep my hopes up, but I prefer US servers...

"defend your castle" can mean defend against NPC's in an instance, or defend against a couple players in an instance like Guild Wars.

    Browser games advertise this.

For one, there's usual clan wars stuff that involves building your own clan base (and the placement of buildings matters due to objectives when someone tries to capture), then there's defense of persistent non-instanced towns from both npcs and players, not to mention defense of the faction you are aligned with from other factions and other stuff like that :)

Its not yet licensed in USA.

Currently there are Chinese, European, Russian, MY, Taiwanese and Korean licenses with US one coming soon, most likely.

Calm down mang, no need to get so defensive about your video game tastes. I'm fairly sure only one person in the thread said anything about the theme being for the younger generation. The rest just don't like it (including me).

The draw to fantasy/sci-fi MMOGs is due to the separation from reality it engenders. A fighting game such as this is extremely close to reality, so it's doubtful as many people will play it. That isn't to say nobody will like it, but it'll be slower on the uptake simply because it isn't fantasy or sci-fi.
