Hello guys !
so all is in the title...
I'm currently downloading lord of the ring online and i was wondering if it worth it ?
I'd like somebody to tell me more about it and his experience on this game.
Also we have to pay after lvl 65 right ?
Comments
In principle you could level cap not ever paying. You get TP from deeds and if you grinded characters, nuked them, regrinded them, you could build TP up and buy content that way. I'd suggest you just play as long as you enjoy it, drop it if you don't and can't afford another expense.
Is it fun? If you saw all the movies, wanted to travel in thier footsteps, It is. "Meeting Galadriel was pretty "epic" for me. Wasn't too happy about her sending me back in to Moria but it was my moment to work for. Next is Eowyn and Theoden because I play a Captain but if that story and lore isn't of intrest to you, LotRO will feel sterile.
No ser.
Yes, it can be.

what do you mean by "it"?
Is it worth "paying nothing" for? Absolutely. You get a large chunk of solid AAA MMO absolutely free. Sure, it's worth it.
Is it worth subscribing to it? For at least a month - sure. Beyond that? Depends on whether you like it and how long you plan to game.
is it worth paying cash for every single item in the LoTRO store? definitely not.
is it worth to buy a few quest packs after your one month sub? it is if you end up liking the game. if you're not going to sub full time but want to keep playing, you need to think about what is a good investment and spend those TPs wisely. You can get A LOT of the game for very little money if you do it right.
So yeah, you gotta be more specific when you ask whether it's worth "something". Hard to say without knowing what you're comparing it to.
It is absolutely the best "Freemium" model game on the market.
Over 3-4 years, i've probably spent about $120 on LoTRO, i'm currently in the position of being able to play almost all of the game - including the new expac - for the rest of my life without ever paying a cent more. Good deal to me.

Well, you'll get to level 30 without paying, no problem. After that it gets progressively more work (and more grind) to continue to play without paying, although there are people who manage to pull it off all the way to level cap. But if you like the game after the first 30 levels, you should consider subscribing, it's only $10 per month. Even if you only play only twice a week, that's still only $1.25 per session. If you value your time at all, that seems like a pretty good entertainment bargain.
No not worth it anymore.
I had fun with it, and I think if I were to go home right now and log in, I'd have fun with it.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
I like it. Since its F2P there is no pressure to keep playing all the time and you can jump in and out casually. I like their F2P model and once I tried it a year or so ago, I ended up subbing. Lots of new items to play with, fun festivals with collectables each season. I think the graphics look great, even today. Not the player models as much as the terrain, watching trees sway in the wind is a nice touch and their water is amazing looking.
If you cant find anyone to help with a quest, many of them allow you to change the setting to solo it. I have a large TV next to my PC and I like to jump on at night and play while the DVD runs, really helps to get into it. I have played for a year and I'm still only level 41 with my highest toon. I play casually and do a lot of low-xp stuff like grind faction or craft. I also separate my playing time over 5 chars since I like the Legalus type as much as the Aragorn type.
I really recommend you try the F2P and see what you think.
It worth it if you don't spend any money on it.
It worth it if you like very-casual gaming.
It worth it if you are Fan of the LOTRO movie / book.
Otherwise, probally not, you can try it, but I'm not sure you'll like it.
It's worth it! It's the MMORPG with the best storyline/PvE gameplay I know. I'm RPG player, reader of fantasy books and I'm amazed how deeply story goes. It's connected with original books (movies) and makes new paralel storyline and you meet almost every character from books (Frodo, Gandalf, Strider, Elrond etc.). You will talk to them, fight with them by your side etc. Of course it contains classic MMORPG features - different classes, class progress (using traits), questing, crafting, group instances etc. And other thing I like about this game is community. Regarding other MMORPGs I have never find so many players willing to help and guide you. It's said the community is mostly mature.
I know that hardcore players are not happy with this game because of lack of group/pvp instances in end-game/level cap. Ok, I admit that but it's worth the try anyway.
Try game as F2P player and if you like it don't buy TP at that time but become VIP for just one month. Many features (free bags etc. + 500TP) will remain after this month. And later buy TP if you need or you can earn TP through game and buy just content you need.
It is most definately worth trying at no cost to you. I happen to like the game a lot.
After trying it, only you can decide if it's worth it.
IMO, it's probably the best 'unit of entertainment' per dollar value out there as far as MMO's go at the moment.
I have 2 lifetime subs one for me and the wife. Well errr I did. We gave our subs to the 10 year old and the 22 year old. I did not buy the last xpac, as I knew it was going to be another mirkwood. So those subs are capped at level 65.
Is it worth it for new folks maybe, but for folks like me who was around during Alfa2 and though all the betas, no its not. I watched a great game come to a screeching halt. You will hear all the fan-boys talk about oh were getting back on track with the updates, and I just lol they are not producing the same quality types of updates they were back in SOA days.
All I can say is there is no trace of anything turbine installed on my computer, any more. I even went as far to go into my account and fix the email options to where I never ever got another email from them advertising the stuff they sale in the store.
You can easily play into the 30s without paying so just play it and make your own decision. You have nothing to lose.
I believe it is worth it. That being said I have played off and on since Beta, and have each expansion and haven't ever played as a F2P user. But I will say that I have spent a fair amount of money in the cash shop past my monthly stripend for XP boost, Skirmish Mark boost, and stuff like mounts.
The game still is one of the most beautifully designed worlds in an MMO. Only thing close is AoC as far as beautiful landscapes. The quest are pretty standard fair in the kill ten rats vain of things. There is grinding mobs and skill usage for deeds. My favorite thing personally is Skirmishes which are instanced zones where you and a NPC play defensive, offensive and sometimes survival modes. These are great for XP and some of the gear is nice. A mixture of questing and skirmishes works best for me.
The community is very nice and I haven't ran into many inmature people even more so considering that it is now possible to play for free.
Some will say combat is slow. I don't find it any slower than the average MMO.
All in all it is a nice game to play. Will I keep playing it when SWTOR and GW2 come out? Most likely. It is one of those games that you can leave for a while and come back and only find things have improved since you last played.
The classes are fairly well balanced. I don't play Monster Play much so I can't really speak to that end.
I will say though from what I hear if you don't have the expansion packs that you will end up spending some money most likely to at least unlock some of the zones and skirmishes. Evendim and the 20-35 level skirmishes are great .
The game seems pretty populated at least right now on Firefoot server.

Shame, you actually missed out on a rather good expansion here. Not going to bother with the details as it seems obvious you care not for them anyway. But really, truthfully, you did miss out on a very good expansion.
I'd agree with this advice. I think LOTRO is a very good game overall, with some great visuals, great PvE storylines, and a well done world, but that's me. Personal experience is always the best test, and it's free to play, so I'd say give it a shot and make up your own mind.
Hell hath no fury like an MMORPG player scorned.
Depends on what you are looking for and what kind of game you enjoy.
I thought LOTRO was the best MMO around when it first released and throughout the Shadows of Angmar days. In my own opinion it has gone progressively downhill since then.
The new management team, the move to F2P and Warner Bros. ownership....have been an absolute travesty to the game as far as I'm concerned. YMMV.
It is a free download though...so the only thing you have to lose by trying it is your time.
Personaly, I don't think it's a horrible game today....but much like the Elves in the 4th Age (i.e. right AFTER the timeline we are playing in now) it retains only a shadow of the greatness it once held.
Except alot of time playing a slow game that you might need to pay eventually if you want to go end-game.
Try it and see.
IMO it is worth it, overall one of the best MMOs out there, coupled with flexible payment options (or completely free if you grind it all out, though i wouldnt recommend that venue).
Thats the beauty of it.
It's pretty good.
I understand guys who left LOTRO after 2+ years of playing because they just explored everything. But for new players like myself (7months of play) it's definitely worth it.
And even LOTRO veterans should check the game again now. With ROI update classes mechanics changed and everything is faster now. Many skill inductions are lowered, you can kill faster.. but you can die faster.. :-)
I've played since launch and have a lifetime sub. I tend to keep coming back for expansions, new classes and level caps etc... but when I occasionally play in the earlier zones I find that there are new quests and altered quests that make those zones more fun than they were at launch. It's a shame some lifers don't go back and start a new character, I think they would enjoy the experience now.
It's definitely worth trying. If you really enjoy it I think you can get quite a bit of content by buying the mithril edition they've released recently.
The game has gone downhill since the SoA days. But if you are new have fun in the SoA part of the game (and say hi to the giants in Everswim for me).
