This game is laggy & full of bug, without any real customer support.
You have 2 options to advance in game (3rd is bot /cheat seems silly to me):
1. If go to item shop & spend 100 to 300 $ per month & you gonna win. Next month or 2 new update will *kill* your hardly payed items.
2. You play for free, spend ages of boring grind, buy item shop items from ingame money trade. Once all done, most probably game will update & all your efforts will became obsolete.
In both cases I can see only 1 winner: greedy & lazy Frogster.
BTW: useless to look their forum for feedback: if you post the truth about game, Frogster will or del your post, or, if you insist, ban you from forum.
Long ago in USA from was published (then deleted) calcs to make your character ready for raids (lvl 1 - 50 was at time), so med price was 750$ and high was 1k $.
After spending 750$ I got hacked & lost all, nobody cared to help me out, beside by the time my gear became useless. So I told to myself: never again.
If I want to play WoW style game, I'll better.... choose WoW. =D
hehe, u love picking on runes of magic, i agree with you on most parts, but im playing right now surviving good in pvp and raids, and not paying any money, my guild helps me gear up.

This is the exact reason why I left. To the complainers, it's not like paying them money is gonna help 'fix' any of these issues. But there's always gonna be these people who are like 'it won't happen to me', and they pay. Kinda like what I'm experiencing in Maplestory now (decided to come back after 4 years to find my character hacked).
Pay-to-win is common and I don't begrudge a good game company their right to make money. Fraudster is not that company. In my two to three years playing I have seen them abuse their customers over and over again including:
* about a year ago they had a promotion for in-game money (called diamonds). Their staff accidentally combined a 200% promotion with a 250% promotion. The net result was that purchasers for that weekend got (as advertised) 525% of their usual diamond purchase. When they discovered the error, instead of refunding the complete transaction and getting the diamonds back they reduced the purchased diamonds to 200%. So they effectively stole diamonds from their community.
* Mail, housekeepers, equipment, and whole guild rosters have been swept away by accidental data losses on their servers. Instead of returning items or compensating their users they simply reply that there is nothing they can do.
When pressed at all they refer back to their EUALA which states that all money their customers spend on the game should be considered 'entertainment' money and all investment in MMO characters is subject to their whim. Since you must press that you accept these onerous conditions at the start of the game they believe you have no recourse for losing any part of your investment in the game.
Having spent so much time in the game I am conflicted about my involvement. While I highly resent their attitude toward their customers, I can either quit their game and lose all the time I have invested in my characters or simply take the abuse and try not to think on it. I have chosen the latter but I offer this post as a warning to others: find a different game from a company with reputable service and support. When you find them let me know - I may join you!
Runes of Magic is probably the most pay to win "free to play" MMORPG out right now. I'm pretty sure everybody already knows this.
However, you have the full freedom to try try and try again without spending a dime. Being successful at endgame is another story. I love this game how there is no content restrictions in it at all. Except for the pay only items. But honestly they dont make or break the game IMO.
The best tips i can give are, horde your gold HORDE it. Then slowly buy "handmedowns" off the market, or utilize those tokens you get from daily's. It's gonna take awhile, but the payoff is huge. If your patient...
or play WoW for cheaper / better content & no surprises....
I switched to Wow after I left Runes of Magic. I paid near 70€ for all expansions and sub for 3-4 months... After that, I only buy game time card with ingame gold and I'm playing FOR FREE and have everything in game. Money I spent in Runes of Magic is like 10 wows + subs for 2 years.

guild, sure, can help a lot, but till certain point only, if you gonna find good guild too.
never played pvp in RoM, no clue how it can be.
but in general, this game is better to avoid=P
try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2

Why didnt you just buy diamonds off players selling them ingame with gold, lol Gold is free ya know...

Not really... Cause u can buy gold from goldsellers without being banned (though never used that service).
There are rumours that Gameforge has deal with goldsellers to sell RoM gold.
