they are now just as bad as Epic games with their stupid console ports
thank God we still have Runic Games and Ubisoft
Texture streaming has nothing to do with the game being a console port. Texture streaming is a way to get around megatestures that they are using in idtech5 engine. Which means a whole scenery sits on single texture file that contains all the needed texture and only thos ein your FOV are streamed onto the display.
It's justs imply bad implementation due to hardware limitations.
The consolization blame goes to them however for not enabling full video options settings from the get go and forcing auto-detect on people. It's however being fixed through patches, just as texture popping will be fixed by updates to both engine code and driver patches.
Also. Lol at putting Ubisoft there as example of PC friendly company. Good joke.
if i recall in the past !id software did go to the majors(intel, nvidia, amd)with the idea of upgrading and optimising in new ways
the big gun said no!what can id software do?lol they have to work with the crap intel, amd and nvidia send user!they did argue with the the big 3 but to no avail!
so until the big 3 fall back to earth and start using comon sense all the id software of the world are at the mercy of the big 3
i didnt mention arm cause i dont know their position in regard to idsoftware idea but it might be a good idea for id software to ask arm cause on the mobile front they are the only major norm!
oh the big 3 might not like it but i bet it never stopped id software before lol
i sure arm would go along with id software idea cause everybody would benefit fairly fast!

Alot of people where having that problem and the patch fixed it. Have you tried reinstalling/redownloading? I'm guessing not but I may be wrong. As for me I wasnt having issues before the patch. After the patch I was having all sorts of preformance issues. I redownloaded the entire 20 gigs + patch and everything wasback to normal. Odd that my patch was corrupted. But it was.
I've tried the patch, still can't get passed the asteroid cutscene.
Looking forward to the game, but don't get OP really, I mean I've seen plenty of gameplay movies from gamers and didn't see the problems OP is showing, which kinda makes me believe that the person in the movie clip played the game with not the right system to render the game properly
But will find out hopefully next week to see for myself...
That is not always the case, you can see my computer specs in my sig image -- actually I've got 12GB (4GB x 3) of DDR3 RAM now -- and I can't even get passed the first cutscene after the asteroid crashes into the Earth, it goes to a black screen to load I think, freezes & crashes; so I've been unable to play the game at all.
It's always a shame when people are unable to play certain games, as I have replied later on, or actually before your reply, I have bought the game this weekend and havn't even installed the patch, so far no issue's I only read about.
Don't know if the game is optimized for sli or crossfire, I am using a Nvidia GTX580 on windows7, have 6gb of ram and a X-Fi Elite soundcard but as said so far no issue what so ever even without the patch.
Hope you get it sorted out or perhaps the patch might do the trick for you and commonly speaking it's not what type of system you have it's how you might have configured it.

4870 X2 is not CrossFire, it's a dual-GPU videocard. You know, id's never going to live this down, that's for sure!
Well, it turns out as far as I can tell the AMD RAGE driver patch was Catalyst 11.7, as I just found it on my system along with 11.9; so what I am going to try and do is completely uninstall RAGE, then the 11.9 & 11.7 drivers and reinstall 11.9 and then RAGE and update 1, if that doesn't work I am going to be very f***ing pissed off!
I have been playing RAGE on PS3 with large screen LCD this weekend. Dowloaded a patch and it is a real blast on console. I think ID based on this do not suck, PC gamers should probably head to console for for FPS and probably RPGs too that are multi-platform. The computer is for work, lifestyle, some RPGs, and MMORPGs now!

Already put about 52 hours into Rage and haven't had a single problem with texture pop-in, frame rate issues, crashes or bugs. I've never had a problem with Id Software games ever, even going back to the original Doom games. I bought Doom 3 in 2005 and have been playing it without a single error or crash since, but just about every game I own that uses the Unreal Engine has had a problem at some point in time. Even with video driver changes, upgrades to my hardware and changing to Windows 7 64bit if there was one game that always worked right out of the install was Doom 3.
I understand sh** happens and some games launch with problems, but they are almost always fixed through patches or driver updates so I just don't understand people trying to damn Id Software because of fixable problems. I guess some people who just got their first computer for their birthday, wouldn't understand that PC gaming is never perfect and has never been perfect. There are hundreds of combinations when it comes to software and hardware and you expect them to be prepared for everything? its ridiculous expectations like this that is killing PC gaming in the first place. If you want something guaranteed then go buy a console and save us your whining on the forums.
doom 3 was good, its just 2004 had plenty of good or very good games su doom 3 pales in comparison.
also... you might ask why its not *very* good? thats why i mentioned half life 2 - it just doesnt have that lasting effect.
we remember doom 3, because it was THE doom. if it was some random named and themed sci fi shooter, you would probably have to think hard to remember it.
this is where todays shooters come in. brink? rage? meh?
could you honestly say rage offered you some mindblowing experience which youve never seen in any game? any innovative game mechanics? nope.
its a good game, one which you will enjoy and probably finish.... and then uninstall and never look at it again.
and then some highly hyped random shooter title will appear and nobody will remember it.
they are now just as bad as Epic games with their stupid console ports
thank God we still have Runic Games and Ubisoft
Yikes, i've heard about the PC pop-in while turning, but didn't think it would ever be that bad.
But in a way it makes sense for such a large areas to have texture pops, since they've mentioned in interviews that they made a single giant texture to cover the entire game world.
id does suck, and not because of any bad performance or botched patches; I have the PS3 version, so I can't really complain there.
They suck because I paid a full game price for a game that isn't full!
15 hours of gameplay! Are they serious! 60 dollars for 15 hours of gameplay is goddamned rediculous!
This is the best single player game I've played in years, unfortunetly my disc must be messed up because it seems like I'm missing a lot of game for the money I paid.
Hey id! What happen to the "2 bluray disks worth of content"? What happen to the "we have to figure out how to compress the game so that we're not shipping it on 8 CD's for the Xbox 360'? Was that all a bunch of bullshit, or did you guys decide you'd just split it up and charge for the rest of the game as DLC? Cause I"m really confused why this game is full price.
Do yourself a favor, wait until the game is like 20 dollars and then buy it. It's not worth 60 for the amount of game that's there; especially since they didn't bother to ship with an FPS versus mode.
Had major problems with graphics before but got it to work last night, have put in about 3 hours and am not impressed at all. The car parts are sort of cool but the game play hasn't really excited me much at all besides the mutant bash tv level.
Will finish game to make an actual opinion though, hopefully it gets better since I've been waiting ever since they announced it back at Quakecon.

I won't be buying another id game.
They never lied about the size of the content, it is a rather large game, but large game size does not equal a large game. Your mistake for confusing those, don't blame id for that.
Thats the funny part, ID tried to reinvent the wheel and failed. For all the games huge physical size and supposedly brand new tech (which cause all the problems) it is smaller than many games and the graphics are no better.
Currently playing:
EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)
Gravity Rush, Dishonoured: The Knife of Dunwall.

I personaly Love this game. I can't wait for more DLC.
It is my opinion that some people live to crap on what people like. It makes them feel better by puting others down.
It's OK. that's their problem. the only way to find out if you like this game, is to play it.
you know the old saying about opinions. Blah, Blah, Blah,,,, Everyone has one.
I liked Quake on PC...I love RAGE on the console.
ID didnt release any REALLY good games since 1999.
all of their games since quake 3 were really lackluster and outclassed by everything else on the market.
look at dates their games are released, how much those games are still played now and look at the competitors.
one example being doom 3 versus half life 2. sounds like a joke right?
also im not sure bethesda becoming a publisher is a good thing.
these games really ruin the reputation especially since most people cant tell a difference between publisher and developer.
Doom 3 was a good game as is RAGE.

Id Software is highly amusing:
compare this to this. The poor guy seems a bit lost about what to do.....
We are the bunny.
Resistance is futile.
