When they are switching to the f2p version will there be a character wipe or can I safely start playing the free trial now and will have it later after the update? (I started a toon and I hate restarting fresh so I stopped very early into the game tough still would suck redoing the first few missions.)

Of course there will be no character wipe. XD How do you thing the people who bought the game would react, when they'd announce "hey, and we delete all your characters!"? That would make everyone who is currently playing run away.

If you mean you don 't want to do the tutorial: you can skip that. If you mean other missions: simply start in a different town. They reduced the number of towns you can start in, but if you don't like them, you can still (mostly) safely walk to any of the old start locations and start there. There will be fewer people around but you got all the missions and storylines and stuff there as well.

About the F2P, I think it's fine. For free you can still play very well without beeing screwed up, just beeing slightly slower, and others can pay according to their choice and money a small to a high fee to get their stuff done faster.

I don't think it's as sparsely populated as someone said. You forget that in games such as Rift or WAR or something, the players are crammed up into enclosed areas. In FE they are spread over the entire area. And, just as comparison, when I log in on FE in sector two, which would be in most games the "dead area" (neither endgame area and past the free trial), I see discussions and stuff going on in the chat, and always get replies too.

In Rift for example, which is supposed to be a recently released AAA MMORPG, I see less activity in the chat, because everyone just plays for himself ignoring the rest, even in the early levels. Even though Rift got more players, they basically don't exist because there is simply nearly no interaction.

The launch of FE was so-so. The game was playable and had a good amount of users, but the graphics were worse and especially in larger cities the game kept crashing.

I don't play FE daily, but I like it. It got a fitting difficulty, interesting combat (no simply pressing 1 2 1 2 3 to kill everything but having to actually aim), a nice soundtrack, good graphics (if you enable the anti-aliase override in your graphic card drivers) and the open world and huge viewing distance is so different from most games....

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

I tried it yesterday and went in the pve battle zone of the 3 avaialable and I saw like 10+ people running around even while I went exploring a little (Didn't get that the red icon on minimap was pointing to were I ahd to go questing lol) I still found a random person or 2 around.

What I like about the game is that it reminds me of fallout and the sort of classless system is fun for me as I like to mix a little to try some combinations.

    [Edit]

The crafting limit sucks at higher lvls but I think you can buy them from people so maybe if you save enough money ingame you can buy them that way.

I don't like crafting anyway so I could care less heh.

Personally I'm having a blast with FE. I tried the trial this weekend and was suprised how much I enjoyed it. For crafters alone the game is alot of fun. The pve and exploring is fun as well. I'd highly recommend this game to anyone, especially once it goes f2p. I expect I'll be playing FE on a regular basis for a long time. Its nice to play something without dragons and elves for a change ffs. This genre is getting so old and used up these days...It's starting to bore me to death :-/

The fact crafting is limited time for free players kills this game, especally with some items taking mutiple hours to make, you can forget about leveling your crafting up much at all with this limit. Especally if u plan to up mutiple area's. Honestly though there aren't near enough bonuses under the commander sub to make it worth paying double a normal p2p mmo's sub fee for. its barely better than the 15 buck option.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

You'll get more from the game than you did before for the same price. Now you have the option to get about the same as before for $5 less (no less actually plus a smidgeon more)...or even more for $5 more.  How is this a bad thing?  Just because someone paid for a sub before doesnt entitle you to everything the game may add later (even though you are privy to additional content in most cases for no additional charge..like new regions..quests...etc.) It should guarantee you no less than what you had before for the same price imo. The Fallen Earth freemium model does this adequately ...again..just my opinion.
