And in what MMO has this ever been different?

Except UO, of course, naked mages FTW!

If you whant a skill based mmorpg where gear dont have that inpact, play Tera Online when it comes out, aim based/dodge = skill

cant wait for some true skills.... just saying

The skill in a MMO is all about teamwork, thats why is a multiplayer rpg, and believe me it requiere a lot of skill to be good in a MMO, skill and knowledge about the game, thats probably why the ¨skilled FPS¨ player suxs so bad playing MMos, i remember a review from 2 FPS players doing the alderan warfront, it was just funny how bad they was at that game and even shameful.

From my pont of view, someone talking about ¨MMO doesnt  requiere skills¨ it mean, ¨im not that great at pvp¨. and im a FPS player also, but still the hardest challenge and the most competitive way of pvp that i have found in my years as a gamer, it come from my MMO experience, and im not a kid so i know what im talking about.

If you don't think that in an Eastern made mob-grinder MMO (Tera) that your gear will matter more then your skill at aiming/dodging, then I'm sorry.

It is gear/level based first and foremost.

The aiming/dodging will seperate the people in terms of skill only at similar gear/level.

Don't be consumed by the hype for any game. Not Tera, not TOR, not a single one.

Im talking frome my own experience, KR and EU beta, and all i can say, ur wrong about mob-grinding and the gear. Ok, the kr version whas a grind fest, with some quest, but the eu version is just another game. Just saing, in aim/dodge based games you allways have a chance to own it up without gear and lvl.

Sorry for my bad english, but doing my best to make you understand me. Peace sir

progression in TOR from my understanding consists of 1)light/dark points, and 2) gear. so yes, the game will be a major gear grinder. you can only have so much story.

i think the right question is : " if You set against eachother naked lev 60 rogue with a starting dagger and a full PVP set rank 14 and ofc lev 60 warrior... who will win?"

it starts about 5 mins in  ;)

thats what people miss in most cases comparing TOR to WOW in matters of gear/skill, we're talking about the pure starting game here, not 3 expansions and 7 years later.

currently the gear in TOR wont have SO big an impact on the game, 5 tiers of gear later?

well, ill say : "we will see when we get there" ;)

I can say this about all the research I've done on TOR:

For the release, they've put really, really good thought into everything to remove all significant grinding elements by putting alot in the hands of the skills of the players and much less on their gear.

As some said, maybe after expansions and increases of level caps (I anticipate both) this may become unbalanced, but for now, they are making great efforts to minimize the impact of gear on performance while still giving cool item upgrades for PvP and end-game content to at least give some amount of reward to the player.

What we would like to see I think is a well-rounded game experience for all and avoiding the necessity to grind to compete.

I certainly bought the pre-release game.  Fun Game Deals at a slight rebate for those interested.  Its a cool game deal site.

My friend played in the TOR beta two weeks ago and I was with him for some of it.  It was awesome!!!!

And if you gain a level, you don't become more powerful or get more skills.  You get a carpenter's level which you then use to bash snake's heads in while yelling "FUDGE!" in Swahili Huttese.  253,451 snakes and 16 Jar Jar dry humps later, you get your ship.

Ah... innovation.  It may not be fun, but it's different.  And isn't that all that matters?

"Innovation" and "silliness" aren't necessarily same things.

While I had a lot of fun reading your post, do you really and genuinely believe that there's no way around (basically speaking) copying the most succesful model on the market? I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Ofc I'll try to get everything out of the game that I like (personal story for sure), maybe some PvP but I refuse to organize my life around the game to get best possible gear just to do it from the scratch with the introduction of another set all over again.
