"please stay and play our ruined game.   We'll even give you D3, another ruined game that could have been AWESOME if we weren't marketting for the masses instead of true gamers.   Please!?"

    ...nope.    Get off my lawn.

If you buy Diablo 3 CE, Blizzard will give you 12 month WoW subscription at the price of 8 month WoW subscription.

    http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&tag=D3WoWFAQ&rhtml=true:

"What if I purchase the Diablo III Collector's Edition?

If you decide to purchase the Diablo III Collector's Edition when it's available, and then choose to add your Collector's Edition license key to the Battle.net account associated with your existing World of Warcraft Annual Pass promotion, you will receive all of the benefits associated with the Collector's Edition, plus receive four months of World of Warcraft game time which is eligible towards your 12-month subscription commitment. After you purchase the Diablo III Collector's Edition you just need to input the product key into the Battle.net account associated with your World of Warcraft 12-month commitment and that account will then receive the next 4 months of World of Warcraft game time for free. For example, if you already had a month of game time on the associated World of Warcraft account when you input your Diablo III Collector's Edition product key, it would then be 5 months until your next subscription payment was due."

hahaha, an act of desperation :D

  • popinjaypopinjay Member Posts: 6,539

Actually, doesn't look like desperation really. Looks like great marketing.

Figuring in how many people are already waiting for Diablo 3, and what Blizzard is likely to charge for it at retail, someone still playing WoW and having fun is naturally going to want to beta the expansion (READ: expansion) so it's really a pretty good deal.

how exactly is it free if you have to pay for a years subscription to get it..some people just get duped by blizzards marketing. Diablo 3 costs less than a years sub to wow.

Err... what am I missing there: do you mean regular $$$ does not guarantee we're going to be able to buy the new Xpack?

    Seems weird.

I dont know about this.  I mean, I feel like they realize they are going to lose some subs and want to put that last squeeze on WoW.  Sure, it sounds very appealing.  I wouldn't mind getting free warcraft time along with Diablo 3 which I plan to buy.  It's a great value for the free game time.  However, is that game time going to be of value over the next year?

P.S. I do realize you are getting D3 free and not wow sub time free.  It's just the way I'm looking at it since I'd be buying d3 anyways.

Intriguing offer, but kind of scares me.  Nothing in life is free.

Except that if you sub for a year to WoW you also get to play it.

You'd have to be a diehard blizzard fan really to take up this offer.  A whole years wow sub just for a free copy of Diablo3? It'll work out much cheaper just to buy the Diablo 3 box and sub on and off for WoW, but there will be people who take this offer because there so in love with the company.

Smart move on Actiblizzs part, miliking that cow for all it's worth :P

Well, assuming you are on a month to month subscription plan, you do save $120 all told if you were to do it this way.  You'd pay $120 for a year's subscription, which saves you $60 from the month to month plan + another $60 that you don't have to spend on Diablo 3 when it comes out.  So no, it's not free, but you do save a lot of money on it.  The problem is that not many people are willing to shell out that kind of money up front on a game they may not be playing a year from now.

It's free in the sense that you're paying for 12 months of WoW and get Diablo 3 with it?

It's free in the sense that you're NOT paying for 12 months of WoW + the price for Diablo 3, but rather only the price of one thing?

    It's not that hard.

And before people start saying "lolol what a scam, desperate!" They're not looking to gain new players to WoW, they're simply doing this to retain the amount of people that would put WoW on hold to play the hell out of D3. With a 12 months Sub to WoW, you're more inclined to play it if you've already been doing so, instead of forgoing it for D3. Or you can think of it as rewarding long-time WoW players. Hey, you were gonna play WoW for the next 12 months away, how about we throw you the D3 for free?

If you were running the company you'd do the same.

Hey look everyone, the anti-Blizzard patrol is out in force today. How you spin this into negativity is beyond me, but they always figure out a way. What a sad life it must be to spend time trying to turn something positive into a negative.

1 month of wow is $15, it takes 4 months if you sub "on and off" (assuming 1 month at a time) to reach $60.

    A copy of Diablo 3 is $60.

$60 + $60 = $120, which is the price of a 12-month WoW sub, and with this deal, a free copy of D3.

So no, if you play WoW any decent amount of time at all, subbing "on and off" would be the worse deal here.

And if you think playing WoW for 4 months out of a year is a "diehard" blizzard fan then I have no further comments.

Acutally you pay less than 15 a month if you buy subscriptions in bulk. I don't know how much they are planning to cheapen it with the year sub model, but even at the 6th month sub option it was only 13 a month. If it went down to 10-11 a month for a year it would definitely be interesting if I was still playing WoW.

Yes but he was suggesting that it'd be cheaper to sub "on and off" - i assume per month, because anything more than that will add up anyway.

Say you buy 6-month sub package, around 13 a month? That comes out to be $78 + $60 for D3 = $138 - you're already over the $120 it would have originally cost.

The argument is if you play WoW for anything longer than 4 months out of the year, it's better for you to go with their deal because it only takes 4 months of game play to "get your money's worth."

  • fledurfledur Member CommonPosts: 77

This is smart....because people that choose to pay for 1 year of WoW are not able to actually quit the game (by cancelling subscription) when SWTOR, Secret World or GW2 hits the stores.

Sure players that already know that they will stop playing WoW when one of those games are released are not going to fall for this strategy, but most less informed players will.

so.. 1 yar pass for a crap noeone will prolly be playing in 1 year.. plus an outdated d3 that would have prolly be grand if it had been released 3 or 4 years ago..

Sounds like Blizzivision is experiencing what SOE was experiencing around the time they started losing EQ subs.

Hear that sound? It's called an echo, which will be commonplace until Blizzivision is forced to start amalgamating servers.

It was bound to happen eventually.  They had a great run, time for something better.

pretty sweet deal if you are a WoW subscriber, if i still played I would definitely get this.

  • Shatter30Shatter30 Member UncommonPosts: 487

Blizzard has really become money grubbers havent they.  They are also pretty clearly worried about how GW2 and TOR will impact their bottom line, try and snatch up a years worth of subs from people before its too late = lol

Buy a year of WoW sub and get D3 free, and then u have to sub to play D3 online aswell so they get you paying double subs nows thats bussiness :D

Someone subbing on and off could be only two months in a year, it could of course be much more.  Diablo 3 doesn't arbitarlry cost $60 anyway, you can probably find it cheaper elsewhere.  If I was going to buy it I know I would.

The point is in your post, 'if you play WoW any decent amount of time...', for some diehard Blizzard fans they'll signup because of the free Diablo 3 and it'll be great from them with WoW their sub.  Other's who've lapsed will sign up just for the FREE copy of Diablo 3 even though there done with WoW most of the time.  Stick that word free there and some people think it's a good deal. Happens all the time.  I personally just spoke to someone whose not played WoW for eight months but is tempted to come back because of this deal despite the fact he's done with the game.

It really isn't difficult to understand the point, it's a tempting offer to some people who wouldn't consider WoW anymore.

You do realize there is no sub fee for D3 correct?

It's an awesome deal that I will purchase if they decide to make it available in Latin America, especially considering the bulk discount and 12 months is such a long subscription that it no longer feels like a subscription.

And I am someone that only plays a few months every major patch/expansion but I enjoy the heck out of it.
