Ok, I was just wondering, did anyone else notice that this game is like a MMO, updated version of I-82. I was a big fan of the game before. Like Auto Assault, it also has you using cars with weapons and gadgets to kill other cars. I was wondering if that's where they got their idea from. Maybe It's just a coincidence because i guess there isn't much new material left. I haven't seen anything new since There(Life Sim) <Then Second Life was made> and Endless Ages(FPS) <Then Planetside was made>. So the question here, I guess, is if anyone else thinks we are just getting the same games with better and better graphics. It would be nice to see a new kind of gameplay introduced like There did a while back.

"They say im different... Well im not the same."
Did you also play I '76? IMO, 76 was a far superior game, and remains my all-time favorite.
Anyway, I think they drew their inspiration from many sources. Richard Garriot, who wrote an Apple II game called AutoDuel, works closely with NCsoft, so Im sure that had something to do with it. There is also the CarWars tabletop game, which AutoDuel was based off of, as well as all of the Mad Max movies.
Auto Combat isnt the only related genre. The Post Apocalyptic genre is a big influence as well, with games like Fallout.
I think the game certainly has borrowed elements, but also original ones as well. I find that true of pretty much any game.
There are a couple of us Interstaters that want to form a clan in AutoAssault so, if you find yourself playing, feel free to look us up.

personally,i think Auto Assault is unique, the main reason that its never been done before in a MMO rpg setting, offers room for massive updates, that can branch pretty much ANY dang place they want to,and it combines car combat, with rpg style statistics,im lookin forward to it.
AA is bringing new material and new gameplay into mmorpgs, which is what I call innovative. It's a niche game aimed to those (like me) that played old car wars and clones but in mmorpg form. Though the mmo market lacks originality, I think you'll be better off pointing to the eq clones rather than auto assault.
ps, just so you and a lot of others understand SecondLife/There are not mmos, or even life sims, it's a 3d chatroom with devperks. -_-
Bleh, point taken <(-_-)>
hmm... What copied what? Did the maker of the spoon copy the idea and made a fork or was it the other way around...
Anyway, what I was trying to say is that at the core of the issue, there is almost always a predecessor.
For once follwing the NDA, I won't comment on the Auto Assault content. But I can say that this game copies the best points in other mmorpgs I've played.
As for the poll, if you want to talk about originality, don't talk about hack'n'slash games. If you've played one, you've played 'em all. Sure there's some difference, but the basis is all the same.
One of the more original games I've played and enjoyed was Earth & Beyond. But since that is (or should I say was) a niche game and therefor got cancelled due to below expectation revenues.
Off-topic: Don't bitch about grammar on boards, if bad grammar ticks you off, reading and commenting on poorly written posts will not make your life, or the life of the poster, any better.
I am really looking forward to play a MMO WITHOUT Elfs, or Orcs, or......
MadMax and CarWars were always favorites of mine.
If the game doesn't completelly suck i will play. And regarding the originality of the idea, Thank you for copying mates. Keep up the good work.
Well I got my Beta account set up, now just waiting for the server to be up.
One major problem i see in this game so far from what I have read and seen, and again i havnt played it, but its just a feeling so far...
I think this game is going to lack depth, like an arcade game its going to be fun to play for a little bit, but eveutally will lack reason to continue on. I get the sence that your avitar is going to be your car - like EVE the ship is your character.... I think that the game should surround the players character and the cars are just part of it, rather then you be the car with a toon that sits in your seat with out any interaction or little interation with the outside world...
hmmm dont get me wrong, im eager to play, it sounds like a lot of fun, but at the same time this games big killer is going to be it has no depth, and the name its self may shun people off from buying the game --- but still sounds fun so ill give it a try and will report in my opinions as I go.

"What is it I have against Microsoft, you ask? Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."
First off... NDA. Might want to actually read it before you sign up.
No depth sort of like City of Heroes, another extremely innovative game by NCSoft, but not nearly as groundbreaking as it could have been? Sounds very possible.
Don't worry about the ship being your character--as stated in Laura Genender's Road Houses, you constantly update your car, meaning your car isn't really your character that is recognizable. Your avatar is more recognizable. Also, you do stuff outside of the car aswell.
