Housing, wow!

meleemadnessmeleemadness Member Posts: 592

I created a melee warden and started her in the Tree City place (Kelethin, I think) and several quest rewards where items for my house.  I figured they would be the standard plain, nasty stuff from years ago but that was not the case!

I was pleasantly surprised with the bed I got and then even more with the nature loving haning light and some other stuff.  Very thematic and incredible!  That light was llike a vine with flowers at the end that glowed....that was so awesome to have as a low level newbie.

I actually go to my house now just to add more stuff I get as rewards....this reminds me a bit of SWG (I loved that game) where you could totally design your house the way you wanted.  This is one aspect of the game I never was too involved with but now I am.

I love RP aspects like that as well. Its a shame how so many games don't offer personal housing.

This game kept me VERY very busy with houses.  I have a lvl 90 carpenter and can make some beautiful things, so it just became my ingame obsession.

Oh yeah....and after you're a master crafter, there are also crafter-only COLLECTIONS and many of them are items for your home that you can't get any other way.

I suggest becoming a carpenter and buying a couple of different floor plan houses and having fun. :)  Working your way up to the more beautiful furnishings is a blast. :D

I've always loved the housing in this game. I've seen everything from medieval castles layouts to evil shrines to libraries studied with books upon books. It is without a doubt the best housing in any game out there. Hands down.

I only played this game for a very small time but housing really stood out. It does have all the diversity of SWG but none of the pain in the arse-ness. SWG.....want to put a lamp on the table without a bunch of macros?....click and rotate and move ...ad nauseum and voila! ...2 hours later you have a lamp on the table.. EQ2....want to put a lamp on the table?...then click the lamp and put it on the table in the exact spot you desire.. Brilliant. Even Lotro is a pain inthe arse since you can't really utilize all space due to pre-deternined decorating areas on the floors and walls. Sucks.

Housing and guildhalls are instances so the cities in the game are all ghost towns, which is a shame.

    lol, darkhorse....very well written.

Yea, I will have a carpenter and I do love the crafting.  Nothing like being able to outfit yourself with great stuff and using it.

I do look forward to the items that are out there.  I have some of the Faydark quest items (newbie area) and they are already very nice.  I love the plant that has the huge leaf....I use that as a canopy over my bed and then have the hanging vine/flower chandelier as my light....it is very naturey looking and screams Wood Elf and Fae.  I think that is incredible....and I am a person who prefers to break things....now  i can't wait to decorate things....maybe it is old age.

I do hope there is more woodland/fairytale stuff like you get in Faydark, that stuff is incredible.

If you didnt know already, when moving a housing item hold down shift and do your mousewheel to make the item bigger/smaller... If I remember correctly.

  • meleemadnessmeleemadness Member Posts: 592

Thanks, I didn't know that.  I know the mouse wheel rotates the object, which makes it easy.

What type of housing items do you get as quest rewards if you start in the other zones?  I would assume the Darklight woods would be evil or dull?  Are the items from the new starter zone (Halas?) done in a Nordic theme?

    Thanks!

Whoa!!  I just saw what appears to be not just housing but floating islands where people actually have waterfalls and yards?  Is this right or is that a guild hall?

  • DethevanDethevan Member UncommonPosts: 60

Nope, it's an actual house, though you have to buy it from the store.  It's a blank slate allowing you to build your dream house exactly how you want it.  I ended up buying the Thurgadin hall.  It's amazing, especially since I have a bunch of things from other toons I took off of them and put all on that character just because of that house.  If only the housing in EQ1 could have been as great as the housing in EQ2.  Ah well, only so much you can do with EQ1 in the way of adding stuff.

As I'm standing in the middle of an Alice in Wonderland inspired house on Freeport I have to say I agree with you.

This house even includes potions you drink to shrink you and food to eat to turn giant size, truly a clever mind pulled this together.

I am going to have to buy one of these floating island homes....they are too incredible not to.

So, do they have upkeeps associated with them too?  I guess I need to be at max level before I can have the items or money for the items to decorate.

I wonder how all this will play out in EQ Next....if they will bring it along or not, I hope they do bring these concepts with them.

its basically instanced apartments that other players can visit

SOE even has a House Rating system that encourages players to rate home decorating

in the case of Tenebrous Island Refuge

you are given no dwelling, just a plot of land to build as you desire  (but its still instanced)

can see island w no decorations

From what I have seen in game and collected from others is that the apartments are just that while the homes you have yards, etc.....but they are all instanced, right?
