Im Bored...need a pvp fix!

GrimmxGrimmx Member UncommonPosts: 189

Been playing BF3 lately because i cant get myself to start up any MMO before SWTOR starts up. 13 Hours into BF3 multiplayer i just meet the wall again. Shooters just cant hold my attention, its just too demanding. I need to concentrate very hard to be at my best, and i dont play anything without beeing at my best. So it just gets too intense over time. Dont get me wrong, im doing just fine IG. Its just not that fun over time.

Ok, BF3 out the window...now what? Ive tried them all, last game was Rift. Im heavy into FFA pvp, but Rift was a WoW lookalike wih BG pvp, so not my cup of tea. And the quests?..quests, quests, quests....i just cant stummach it anymore, its SOOOOOOO BORING. Anybody else feel like this?....im just completly burned out on questing theese days.

Darkfall crossed my mind, but it seems its dying because people are waiting for Darkfall 2.

Conan started a new pvp server, but its dying allready.

Ive tried EvE a couple times, but i just cant get into it. I need an avatar, not a ship.

Looked at DAoC and Everquest, but its just too damn old.

Warhammer with its 2 faction BG's are just stupid. If one side holds the most people on a server, they just domminate everything. So how can a company that made 3 faction RvR in DAoC use a 2 faction system in their next game?...stupid.

Ive played just about all MMORPG's out there with pvp in it.

So now im sitting here typing this post at work, thinking about what to do the next couple months. I mean..it could even get worse, im not sure SWTOR will hold my attention that long either. Everybody is bragging about this game, but pvp seem wow*ish to me...and wow pvp is utter thrash. And the quest system?....not sure it will be fun either, im not an optimist, because new games that are highly expected tend to dissapoint me every time.

Ive looked at some free MMO's...but havent found anything interesting yet.

So i guess im asking for ideas.....

My favorite part of MMORPG's:

Pvp with politics, either fighting over resources or hunting grounds. I like it when guilds have some hate going at forums. Makes pvp much more fun and interesting. Im not a ganker though, im a hardcore team/solo pvp'er. I usually like killing gankers ^^. Im also a template builder, i like details.

At this time id rather grind than quest ;)...but ill do quests if needed.

I even went back to Asherons Call 1 for a time, but in this game you need to be lvl 300 to compete theese days. I got to 155 or so on the ffa pvp server before i quit. To little pvp on lower lvls. But it was kinda fun and nostalgic anyways.

Anyway..im rambling now.

I feel kinda burned out, ...maybe ive played to much MMO's ?...who knows...Looking for ideas.

Or maybe just talk about old times ;)

PS. As you see i dont post here often, but i have been reading here for years.

Try Bloodline Champions, its f2p with cosmetic items cash shop... arena style pvp with only skillshots and no real grind... is fun ;)

Edit: Bah i need to read post more carefully. There's not many open world pvp games out there. Darkfall, Mortal Online... good old Ultima Online (!!!). So cant really help you there. Aion is one too when you get to Abyss and or do Rifts... Hmm, Realms online is f2p daoc clone. Havent played it too far yet to see the pvp... But yeah.

Well there's bunch of so called MOBA games. Like Bloodline Champions mentioned above, they are fast to get in and have mostly pvp in them. Some have money grinding and leveling (creep killing and jungling) but mostly its team pvp.

Thanks guys, im going to look into those games for sure. Who knows, maybe ill find something.

Right now im thinking about buying the Lord of the Rings RPG (singleplayer, coop...not the MMO) and maybe take a look at Skyrim when it drops. But singleplayer sandbox mmo's have a tendency to bore me after a while, the worlds just seem dead. And killing the AI isnt as much fun as battle against other people.

GW2 and/or Secret World looks more promesing for me as pvp'er...but they seem a little watered down as well.

Maybe Darkfall 2 could be interesting?...but then again, if that game drops as a patch, it wont attract enough people i think.

Yes, well... There is coming some open world pvp games. Like Prime - Battle for Dominus for example. But nothing inside this year... Swtor is the one im waiting for too and im having bit hard time figuring out what to play. Been playing Allods Online with friends since its f2p and well done mmorpg.

Get a boxing lesson with your friend. Have some fun in the ring. Better than spamming keyboard plus it's good exercise.

Jokes aside, try zentia or uncharted water online

zentia - open world pvp (whole world) with law system + daily event which may require you to duke it out FFA for the prize (if you lose, try again tomorrow)

    example of pvp daily event

treasure island - FFA island with treasure box spawning here and there (so, loot or kill?)

Epic mount - spawn daily at various arena across the world (fight together to lower it's hitpoint then fight each other for the right to capture it)

Uncharted water online - HUGE open pvp environment, using naval ship, can choose to be a pirate and hunt player and loot their cargo (last i played as a merchant from portugal to india trade route....lots of pirate tried to loot me and some did manage to)

india-europe trade route = 2 hour for me (it's very profitable compare to trading in europe but the risk is high)

I heard Allods was cash shop heavy game and with a heavy grind.

I can stand games that use cash shop for items that dont improve pvp, but not otherwise. So i never wanted to try it.

3 realm pvp in realms online sounds fun, so i had a look. But i cant find out if the shop will change pvp or not?

I wont play a pvp game where peolpe can use real life money to get ahead...its lame.

Do you know how the shop in Realms online work?

Hmm, cant remember. I dont really bother to check the cash shops, because i dont give a rats ass if someone wants to be jackass and spend realy money on them. For me that doesn't spoil the game. Allods has much better shop nowdays but realms online im not so sure. As i said havent played too far.

Its more that i dont like getting forced into paying to be able to compete. It has a tendancy to show its ugly head after you have lvled up, and then its too late.

Allods > Think i read somewhere that stuff in your inventory got ruined randomly in PvP and needed repairs. To repair it you needed repair kits or something that you had tp buy for real money. See what im getting at?....im noever going to play a game that uses tactics like this to force money out of people.

I would much rather pay a monthly fee actually.

    Grimmx,

I know this is not much....but I've been playing Need for Speed World...a car racing MMO if you will...

    ...its actually quite cool...

...perhaps can kill a couple of days with it hehe...

Both FPS's but Planetside maybe of interest though the game is whay old. 3 faction skill based pvp mmo, levels mean shit all.

Planetside 2 maybe of further intrest, offcourse its not out, and would play more like BF3/BC2 rather than the original PS though. its maps will make caspian border look like you're fighting over a shoebox.

    SKYeXile
    TRF - GM - GW2, PS2, WAR, AION, Rift, WoW, WOT....etc...
    Future Crew - High Council. Planetside 1 & 2.

I tried Planetside 1 at release, but i think i stopped playing it to play another MMO. It was kinda cool back then.

I will keep an eye on PS2 for sure! Thanks!

The only FFA PvP with AAA quality is probably Aion

since you don't mind grinding (it isn't that much anymore compare to launch), but PvP endgame should be your cup of tea then.

oh and Lineage II is going f2p, I think that game has FFA PvP as well?

DCUO has open world PvP if thats the only you care about in a game.

If you're passing up DAoC because it's "too old" then you won't be finding a good PVP game. It's still the best PvP experience bar none. There is always action and it's very populated still. The road to 50 is very quick and you'll be in the frontiers having fun quick if you're a quick learner.

I tried it out at release and got the impression pvp was "mass" pvp.

Big fights back then was just a blob vs blob in wich i couldnt even see the names on people because they were so stacked. Has this changed?

50 Isnt a problem, ive had several 50's in DAOC, its TOA/SC that takes alot of time.

I tried gearing up a char not long ago, but getting the glass, scrolls, arty's etc  you need is kinda confusing, and its not easy to get help either, because the community doesnt give a shit about new people. Getting a guild was hard for a euro, even tho im pretty much self sufficient and experienced i got no takers.

I remember back when Andred/Mordred had population..it was a blast. Now its just lots of OP guys running around as "gods". And its months to get up there, so no thanks.

But i did love DAoC before, and thanks for answering ;)

Allods has changed a hell of a lot actually.

If you are prepared then theres no need to actually spend a penny on these items.  There's free items in the cash shop that protect your equipment from the curse effect, if you stock up on those then theres no chance of getting a cursed item.. you can literally buy thousands of them for nothing.

The PVP items that i do have issue with in Allods are the Runes... people can literally spend unlimited cash on these and become invincible.

Other than that its usual guff like mounts, costumes etc.

It's a really nice game, great graphics / animation and music.

If you dont mind waiting a while - Lineage 2 is becoming totaly F2P soon.  Which might be worth a look at.  I havn't played it for a long time but had some good times when i did.

OP, have you considered L2 or Aion?  I hear Aion grind is nothing like ir was originally.

Aion grind never was bad, especially when compared to L2. Aion grind (item grind!)  starts at max level, L2 grind earlier. The biggest problem with Aion PVP these days are simple:

    - you need to be geared really well (if you are not an OP sorc or gank with lots of ppl)

    - NcSoft removed nearly all zones from PVP. Lowbie zones got pvp buffs that make PVP rather impossible, execpt on some regular events. High level zones are restricted, if you go to first zone you get banned right away. The main pvp zone is full of mobs that hit really hard and cast skills like paralyse or silence that decide the pvp on their own if they land on you.

    - on most servers there's on faction that rules the server while the other faction is chanceless with people quitting right and left, ruining the balance even more.

    - on some servers there's an incentive program to make more ppl play a specific side, but since there are not many new players in Aion all this incentive program does is ruining balance on another layer.

Basically most players in Aion these days prefer to get fancy dresses and dream of building houses and stuff. Next release will remove PVP from the higher level zone and replace it with "competetive pve" - so if you wanna PVP, don't touch Aion. NcSoft  clearly directs the game to be the next Sims/Hello Kitty Online and you won't be able to properly gear up until the Anti PVP-Update is out.

As for Lineage 2, yes that's one of the greatest PVP games ever - imho. BUT on retail there are hardly any people PVPing themselves anymore though. They all use illegal tools that automate most of the PVP for them by allowing them to develope scripted tactics. Watch a few videos, aside of a few top players that have accounts worth $10.000 and more you won't find many people that target/pvp manually.

Thanks for the detailed answer on Aion/L2 Mmoswan!

Scripted pvp?...thats just sad. I remember trying out L2 a long time ago, but i cant remember why i quit.

Maybe im getting old, because i feel the just dont make the games like they did before. Seems watered down for some reason.

    My favorite games ever:

Asherons Call 1 : Darktide FFA server.

DAoC : Andred/Mordred FFA Pvp Server

Shadowbane. (i was on several servers)

Im waiting for SWTOR > GW2 > Secret World, but for some reason i dont have high hopes for any of them.

SWTOR = Wow pvp....but i hope it gets better. Only 4 classes each side will make pvp stale.

GW2 = World pvp looks interesting in a DAoC oldstyle way...but im afraid it will end up getting unpersonal. Paladin 12344 from world 3 vs Paladin 08643 from world 5. In all my favorite games the world was was filled with people you got to know, both friends and enemies. I guess we have to see how the pvp works out here.

Secret World = This game actually looks like DAoC..and DAOC is still running. 3 Faction pvp is the way to go. /slightly hopeful here.
