I dunno, somehow I think everything'll work out. As others have said, knowing x happens is not the same as being there for x as it happens.
It completely ruins the surprise of finding out it happens the way you're intended to though. I don't wanna know what happens before I see it, telling me it's not a big deal is hogwash which many are here. What it means to you or Joe and Bob is irrelevant. It's how it effects someone else that is the point here.
It seems many here are arguing for the sake of arguing. There's a reason why most thoughtful people warn of spoilers before you see them, it's about respect and knowing many do not want major events spoiled, it completely flattens the emotion of the incident.

I am not concerned about spoilers. 22 years of extensive PC gaming developed some sort of plot premonition in me, so I usually see how this plot is similar to another one and not over-impressed with quite predictable endings, while still being interested in experiencing the plot.
Puzzling thing about this article is it is written by an online gaming journalist. MMORPG might as well just stick to game reviewing by the logic of this topic. Most sensible people know how to dodge information on the web they don't want to encounter.
Not really
You read a thread about "what is the best way to tie your shoes", then mid way during said thread someone throws a spoiler in. I dont mind someone putting spoiler in a thread title for warning, then following up with info. A person was warned to enter at own risk. The "shoe" thread type of spoiler is like a sucker punch.
The "shoes" thread is exactly how RDR was ruined for me. Read a general discussion thread, then BAM out of no where. What was worse is the game had only been out a week or two. Which is why unless I am needing info to get past a point in game, my TOR reading will be very selective over the next 12 months or so.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
I don't really care one way or the other... I'm mostly a power gamer at heart so I look for the "best" in everything most of the time. Spoilers can only help me to do that... but I hate not having the option to be surprised at the outcome of a story, that's just human nature. All I'm saying is: I'll play through my first char pretty much spoiler free -- that's fine, no matter what happens -- then if for some reason my next characters' stories get spoiled for me... no big deal, at least I got the one character and was thrilled most the way through.

Oh come on. You can't be at all serious with that post. Only the immature and kiddies can't steer out of a spoiler or if they choose to read it then still manage not to enjoy the game. I mean, dude, it's like writing that Tolstoy's War and Peace was spoiled for you by reading the synopsis on that back of the book or by leafing through a few pages at random while you were looking for a good read at a book store!
I have simply accepted spoilers as part of any on-line game.
My concern is less about spoilers, but rather how the game plays with the spoilers. Will knowing the plot twists, etc, make the game that much less fun, that it will push people to cancel/resub?
I hate the story I am enjoying getting ruined by others, and this MMO will be all about the story....AND it wouldn't be a MMO without other Players to enjoy the journey with.
I just might buy and play after all. I will be looking for your guild tag on the forums.
The OP is assuming players will wait while each and every story is told, not just skip through. I think you will find only 10 to 20% will actually wait while the story plays out. So not to hard to miss spoilers.
The Players won't have to wait... there WILL be a dozen or more Players that complete the entire storyline for their class within a few days of launch. Every MMO released in the last 10 years has been this way.
One hour later the walkthroughs will be up in the internet. Google will have it pop as an auto select a day later.

Nor can you, this is exactly what i was talking about above, arguing for the sake of arguing. It's very easy for pivitol events to be spoiled, especially when they have shock value. Whether it happens on a forum, in a game or in a conversation once it's said there's no erasing it. On top of that you can't tell a person what a spoiler means to them, or whether or not it ruins a story for them. Stories are supposed to provoke emotion whether it be finding out this person is a characters father, or the other is their sister, whether it's finding out jacob is lying on a table with his guts spilled out through the entire movie. Knowing these things ahead of time completely removes the emotion of the moment. There's no shock, no awe, all there is heh, I already knew that.

meh ill just leave geneal chat on im good at ignoring stuff i dont wonna know PLUS while every storyline follows a general line they all will be a bit diffrent anyway couse of the choises u make ( i hope)

Before I read A Tale of Two Cities I had no previous knowledge of the plot line. Read the back cover of the book when I was about a quarter of the way through, and the backcover said
SPOILER ALERT "The heroic Sydney Carton, who gives his life for the the love of a woman whould never be his." Completely spoiled it for me because I read to the point where it said Carton looked just like the Marquis. SPOILER ALERT
So yes that is completely possible. I mean the ending was powerful spoiled or no, but I don't trust back covers anymore.
And I agree with Mike, I haven't even watched the playthroughs of flashpoints becasue I want them to be fresh when I play it.

I would suggest anyone concerned seriously about spoilers at this junction is too sensitive to be alive in this world. I am sorry for you because that must be hard.
I have been looking forward to this game so much, and I love a good story. However I never will be fooled into thinking that a story in any MMO matters to my enjoyment.
You could have told me the entire storyline to let's say, Bladurs Gate II and it would not have mattered to me. It is the little things that matter, how a joke lands etc. The story will in the end just not matter I think.
A book and a game just are not the same.
How I choose to react to it is about as interesting as it will get. Just playing in the world and PvP is all any of us should be caring about.
I say that because if you hang your hopes on the storyline you will almost always be let down.
I will be playing the game, not the story. You really think if they released all the story lines from this game into books it would be epic reading?
Also I know the story "The lord of the rings" Yet I would dearly love to play through it in 20 different games made by 20 companies.
And I feel safe to say this will not be near as great a story as that or many others.
Just play the game, have fun, and see a doctor for that fragility

And you know what? Just because story doesn't matter to YOU, doesn't mean anything to anyone else. Why? Because one of the best things about Bioware games is their story. As for the story in this game... its obvious you haven't been betaing it (I have).
You just wait until the story has you bouncing in your chair and cheering out loud in the sheer joy of a twist or until you hear yourself saying that you'd like to kill that horrible npc just because he's such a total jerk to you. And wait until you see people who are having entire conversations about the different npc's and things that are happening in general chat.
Until then, don't go assuming that story means nothing. This game is NOT like other games. And in THIS game, the story is the thing. Everything else is secondary.
Spoilers take away surprise which is a key story element. Those in the study may think they enjoy knwoing spoilers more, but if you are not as surprised you will enjoy a story less...its like watching it again.
I’ve been playing the Beta of SWTOR and so far this spoiler issue hasn’t been an issue at all… So you may just be worrying a little too much over nothing… just saying…
PS: They do make it easy to turn General Chat on and off, I’ve played 90% of the game with General Chat off, I only turn it on to seek help from others when I need more than just me and my side kick to complete a quest or heroic…
