Unknown Abyss is a MMORPG inspired by Earth and Beyond. Enb was a game that lasted exactly 2 years. It was sunseted Sep 22, 2004. While many people were dissapointed by the closing of EnB we thought about making a game based and inspired by enb. Celtic Software is the company involved in the development of the new game. Unknown Abyss is an mmorpg based in space and you are a pilot in one of three main races. All are terran races (human) and exploration is a huge part of the game. Combat and trade are also key elements, and the community is very important to being successful in the online world it will create. The game is skills based and level based. We are obviously using the TGE (torque game engine)....This game is still in creation but the game will most likely be in alpha stage very soon. But most of all we need support. We would love to have you on our forums @ www.unknownabyss.com. We will be having contests and will keep the community informed about how the making of the game is going. We will update our site and post regularly. The developers love to hear your opinions and would love to see you post.
Some things to look forward to:
-Choose your destiny! 3 different classes to suit you!
-Merchant
-Warrior
-Explorer
All of these classes will contain mini classes or professions such as Mining, Bounty hunting, Scouting.
-Choose your faction!
-Pick from 3 factions with unique backgrounds!
-Also choose from over 8 sub factions!
Also on our forums I would reccomend taking a look at the sketches and pics of the ships the team has designed.

LOL, good luck. You may wanna ask the guys over at Limitless Horizons how big of a project actually putting together a successful and working mmorpg actually is.

I wasn't a huge fan of enb, but maybe this game will fix its problems.
Classes? Yuk. That's the reason I could never get into the old EnB. Oh well, to each his own.
I looked at the website. Not much there yet. But I've met so many people who mourn the loss of EnB that I'm sure this project will get many people excited.
I'm sure your game will have many similarities to EnB for obvious reasons. Can you tell us some ways in which it will be DIFFERENT from EnB?
Will it have PvP in all/most of space?
PvP will be available but you will not be forced to participate in PvP if you do not want to. As of the areas the PvP is in is corncerned i will ask the devs and get back to you.
I will also ask them about what new features that are different from EnB.

There will be many different things. Some things i rounded up are
PVP included (not mandatory) with team and solo arenas and duels
The market system will be improved and balanced from the faults of EnB that the Devs have found
Many different races and subraces without limiting weapon or profession usage
Obviously more this is just a few. Remember that we are not making this game so it is exactly like EnB, but it is inspired by it.
Also the arena's in PvP will be pretty fun. We will have a team arena or a gladiator arena.

We will also be adding new ships designs, stations, and of course the economy will be changed. Even the market system will be altered.

enb had a market channel and not much else. We are going to have a market that involves NPCs and all players. It is going to be similar to the Eve Online marketing system.
Combat/PvP will be extremely advanced... many things you can do, and the possibilities are very wide-ranged here. Lots of complexity to the system we have. As well as a manual/autumatic ship movement setting which will allow players to have the control that fits them...
PVP is going to be very difficult and take a lot of getting used to. PvP isnt forced also.

For our game Unknown Abyss we will have many different new and exciting features different from enb. A new and important feature we will have is the new exploration system which will change exploration completely. Instead of just mindlessly cruising from nav to nav the earth and beyond way now you will actually have to go out into uncharted territory with scanners and scan for aoi's (areas of interest if you are near one your scanner will alarm you and you will search in around until you discover the aoi. Exploration is not always safe because very dangerous factions such as The Black Death, The Garr, Pirates, and a whole slew of npc enemies will be waiting in the depths of space conducting their own activities.
When you do find an aoi you mark the location on a coordinate map of the sector and it is added with a name and description possibly. This also brings a new market for the exploration where you can sell the coordinates to locations and in turn earn experience by discovering these locations
There will be relatively few navs besides gates and stations and the new "pathway" which is basically a trade highway that extends usually from a station to a gate which there will be few of these but their turrets and patrols will protect the economy and the people going to stations most of the time.

we're making a website that much more detailed right now. Our forums are up and fully functional so come on down and visit. The game is going to be great, we are progressing very well and are really getting a lot of things worked out.
All of the team has been working really hard and we are hoping to have the full site up and working as well as a promotional video featuring the titan race ships. (explorer, merchant, and warrior)

A demo is going to be released very soon which will give people a general gameplay idea, or at least the flying about and battle systems. I'm not sure they're putting skill or anything like that in yet as, after all, it is just a demo. I know you'll be able to shoot things. :P

Good luck to you guys. The game is sounding really promising. I love space games but none have held my interests as long as E&B did. However it got boring so I hope this isnt and offeres a lot more for the players to do.

Is this going to be First Person Joystick full 3D or 2D Mouse like ENB was?
Is it going to be a more simulator style combat or more RPG style combat (SWG space combat vs. EVE combat)?
The exploration part sounds very interesting.

Combat will be versitile, it will be complex and intense (it will support joysticks), yet at the same time it can be simple, and relaxing. As for limited character development being limited, that depends on you're defineition of character development. There will be 3 races, 3 professions. Each rase wil have general advantages/disadvantages over the other races, and each profession will have general advantages over the others. However, nomatter what race/profession, you can do most anything in the game. IE: a warrior can build, an explorer can hunt, a merchant can explore. Just that one is more efficient then the other. The only thing that will limit what you can do is the skills you have. Merchants will have more build/trade oriented skills, explorers will have more stealth/sensor oriented skills, warriors will have more defense/offense oriented skills. In the end, players will have alot of freedom in what they can do, and alot of things to do.

Up top is the asteroid which may or may not be used in the demo. We haven't quite decided if we will include the asteroid or not. It may be in the full game if not the demo. Above is the tm or (Titan Merchant). Which is one of the three titan race professions. It has an extended cargo hold and the bright colors are used to show how you can paint your ship during character/starship creation.
