after reading how starter planets only have 2 classes start there (some article on this affiliate website errr mmorpg website i mean) launch day is gonna be a little lame i think..kinda like attack of the clones. Although watching oh so holy jedis killstealing and flaming each other would be funny to see in a bad way.
As for the NDA..it needs to be there at least until gameday as the game description on shopping sites like gamestop etc would need to be changed..well unless you believe everything you read is exactly as portrayed. Another game where in the dev office the whiteboard has the key note "people are stupid", business is business though so i understand thats how you get $$$
Goodluck if you like this game though..that is the whole point afterall - doing something you enjoy
Wow ... guess this sentences from OP clarify what I was always after and I agree 1000%:
"But what I enjoy most of all is the new stuff. Everything is new, and that’s unbeatable – new classes, new systems, new gear, new landscapes, and possibly even new experiences. I’ve known for a long time that what I like best about MMOs is discovering how to play them. Learning how to play is a joy to me....". So for me virtually every new mmorpg is worth trying. Said this I really hate 1st person games and do not like (animore) driving, but this is not problem with mmorpg world. :-)
WAR is not FtP yet because EA still uses it to fund ToR(where else would that money go certinly not to keeping their servers running or adding content). Odds are EA will close WaR and try to herd the refugees into te ToR camp. Because they intend to close WaR they are making WoH so they can keep milking the brutalized warhammer fantasy IP. Yes they are filthy bastards indeed.
Decided i won't be playing ToR because of the hotkey gameplay; that just bores me to no end and is a barrier to entry that i cannot climb.
It is best for the industry the MMO throne remains an dusty empty seat never to be filled.
It is EA! Servers will be yoyo's on launch and probably through the first week at least. If they make you go through the origin version of steam which I suspect will be true, add a month to that. Bioware might be a great developer, but EA will still bollux up the servers.

I suppose you havn't bothered to read the multiple dev posts stating you need origin in no way shape or form to play this game. Lots of informed people here...
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
I'm playing this game as a RPG first and foremost, MMO second. If RPGMMO actually sounds better, I would've used the term.
But I think people here are too obcure in their view about finding a game, thinking you need to have this, that, these and those in order to have a great game. All I look for in a game is a fun experience. People should just chill and see what happens, no need to get hyped up before a game is even released, if you don't trust it, just don't buy at launch.
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
Like Bad Spock said, if you don't like the style, don't bother. I personally don't think Star Wars is the end-all, be-all of entertainment or fictional universes, and Bioware's approach doesn't interest me, but if people like those things and they enjoy theme park MMOs, then they're probably in for a treat and I'm not going to wish them a terrible time because of it. GW2 will do just fine (when it gets here) and that's all I care about.
Loved the bloggers piece. I agree that game-launches can be great fun (if only in memories far down the road). I was in UO on day one and I love telling the story that I was robbed, murdered and pickpocketed in the first hour I played. I wasn't happy at the time though. Have fun!
As much crap I give SWToR and themepark MMO's in general I think ive come to the conclusion that I will pick it up on launch day. Im hoping between ToR/Skyrim/Reckoning, I will have enough game to last till GW2's Launch.
Only class I plan on playing is a Sith Inquisitor though, and I'll take my time with it not like I did with Rift (lvl 50 and a level 42 in 1 month) Huttball looks pretty fun and maybe a few of the 4 man missions to help pass the time away. As long as I can play it before the inevitable "Raid or Die" mentality takes hold I should be fine.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
The game will do well . But those expecting SWG 2.0 will venture away after a month. I will be playing it for longer than that barring any severe bugs
Anyone still expecting SW:TOR to be a sandbox style game like SWG is a fool; they have been very upfront for a long time now about what style of game this is.
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan
This game will beat all STO sales records for sure :P
That's not saying much! Heck, WWIIOnline's disasterous launch nearly did that!

I think they can go F2P for WAR and have WoH for a long while. Bioware/ EA don't have a fantasy MMO in the form of SW:TOR, that is SyFy genre. What would be interesting if Biware took the IP and made WAR2. Let's say they put in 3 faction RvR and wrote decent leveling story arcs, with updated graphics, that would be great way for them to corner MMO market in a way Blizz haven't done.
I agree MMOG launches are great but if you know from which game a huge junk of the community will come from, it will be filled with stupid questions and comparisons happened in Rift and I had to turn off the global channel after 10! minutes of playing SWTOR catering to the lowest of the lowest common denominator will be even more horrible.
The days when these launches were fun are long gone, also thanks to open betas, wikis and tons of videos before the game has launched.
Really don't understand why people are buying a game knowing, it will not have a long lasting power for them.
Anyway hope you enjoy yourself and mark my words turning off the global channel will do you lots of favors also prepare for things like an ever increasing blocklist come launch. Had around 30! in Rift after 3 days of playing.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
voice acting dont keep ppl around long and MMo experience does matter and BW have none.
Thats an extremely weak argument. As far as I'm aware Blizzard didn't have any either, and look where their "lack of experience" got them. You can add pre EQ SOE to that statment as well. That game is still going strong and is loved by a lot of people.
lol at some coments....even if swtor fails miserably and go f2p will not happen anytime soon...we are not talking about dcuo here heheh,i admit subscription based models are losing their power and f2p is becoming the new standard but i do hope swtor stay sub based for at least 2+ years or even more like some (old) mmos

i agree about if experience really matter....Trion and Blizzard just take pieces of old mmos and mix it together to make their mmos and learn about the error another mmos comited and they did it very well even if they didt have (mmo) experience

I doubt this will ever happen.
Dragon Age will be their first fantasy MMO if they are to ever make one.

"SW:TOR is going to be another one of those games where you scratch your head and wonder why you bought it several weeks after release. Wait a year and try it when it goes F2P"
Agreed, and well said.
Says the person who likes Rift, a game that I can currently buy new for $9.99 that has not even been out for a year.
$4.99 from Nov 3- 6.
The game will do well . But those expecting SWG 2.0 will venture away after a month. I will be playing it for longer than that barring any severe bugs
Wow so for a price of a taco bell meal I can buy it?
Yes, but you'll still be hungry when you're done.
Hungry, aye.....and you will still have to keep making payments on it too....every month....and still be hungry.
I look forward to SWTOR launch. I still don't know if I want to play (my friends that were considering it decided against it) but I might play alone. I'll have to wait and see.
Wau hau lol, how many fans of the game ''Guild pay to win''. Now i am 100% sure that SWTOR will be the best game ever in history of MMO. So many elves around ! Or wait! what was the name hmm... Churn, Nurn, ahhh you know worgens and gnome copy-paste characters. O yes, scream baby scream you are now on the top but if you ever come out, you will be just in shadow of epic Republic -Empire war. Cmon seriously! Bows vs Lightsabers and Laser guns, pssss. You cant win
played it for abit (2 days roughly on and off no more then 5-6 hours a day if you want me to be more exact), was okay, strangely enough it didnt live up to its expectations of curing cancer...
its over hyped like many other previous MMORPG's where a part of the playerbase hypes up the game and another part of the playerbase see's the total opposite or just dont see why it is hyped up to its current "wow killer" status.
after the first year or months you notice all the fanboys quit and move onto another new mmorpg that they begin to hype up until the process is then repeated... i dont see anything thats new to me in TOR, apart from new names and designs for characters, it still has your same old tank/healer/damager dealer classes, same old questing and other rubbish they just decided to rename or provide you with a wookie instead of your usual pet.

You can't be serious with this post. Can you? I'm not a SWTOR hate, nor fanboy but I think your putting this game on too high of a pedestal and setting yourself up for dissappointment.
Also, how on earth did you come to the conclusion that GW2 will be pay to win at all? Please, explain that to me. Worgen and gnome copy paste? Your kidding right? There may be some similarities between the Asura and the Gnomes from WoW (I'm assuming) they are for the most part different. But Worgen and Norn carry nothing at all in common other than that they transform. Thats it. And there is even a case to be made that WoW copy pasted ALL its races from some previous lore in another game or book.
I'm not really sure what you were trying to say by "if you ever come out, you will be just a shadow..." I'm pretty sure GW2 will be coming out, its certainly not vaporware if thats what your implying. Also, SWTOR and GW2 only share in the similarity that they are MMO's and that you will be able to buy them at the store. Thats it. Their payment models are different. Hell, I expect many people on here that are playing SWTOR to also pick up a copy of GW2 because why not? GW2 has no monthly fee so technically neither can really crush the other.
Also, you do realize that GW2 has more than just bows right?
SW:TOR is going to be another one of those games where you scratch your head and wonder why you bought it several weeks after release. Wait a year and try it when it goes F2P.
I doubt it will go F2P within a year. EA's other big MMO which failed hard is obviously Warhammer Online & thats still sucking money out of gullible subscriber more than 3 years after it launched.
SWTOR is a far bigger IP & has had a lot more money thrown at it than WAR & I doubt Bioware will deny core problems if they exist unlike Mythic.
Wow, feel the negativity surrounding a game that is not even out yet, and that most people commenting on it have not actually played it yet. Yeah, sure, some will just not like the idea of this game at all, that's fine ofc, but why bother to waste your time moaning about it then?
And as for all the talk of, hey its "obvious" it will fail, great argument, lets try and back that agument up with, oh I don't know, any fact or reason?
Oh, you can't because of the NDA? Yeah, right......
I thought this topic was about the excitement of a new MMO launch, that buzz of trying something new, finding out stuff with friends and strangers, all of the above about what is great and unique about a launch that you can never truly experience again.
But, oh no, its now about, as usual, game is gonna fail, cuz I knowe! But I cant tell y'all cause of NDA... Jeez...not quite what the spirit or topic of this post was about.
And yes, I do like Star Wars, and Bioware games. But, since I haven't played the damned thing yet, I have no idea if it will be great or fail. I do have far more positive thoughts than most of the haters here, but as I can not predict the future, or will complain without any evidence as to why, I will look forward to this regardless.
I really can't wait for the launch buzz, there's nothing quite like it, I have had the pleasure of some over the years, issues and all, but, good or bad, they will stay with me forever.
