Ok so before I start i'll tell my story, I pre-orded Sw:tor on Aug,23,2011 and waited for a beta invite and waited and waited, a few of my friends that did pre-order got the invite but not me, ok so this week 4 more of my friends got the invite that didn't even pre-order and I was like WTF.
Anyways that got me thinking, "maybeeeeee" they are giving out bets invites to people that didn't pre-order yet so they will pre-order the game, then I remembered I had a old account to swtor.com from way back in 2009 tied to a old e-mail account that I no longer use, so after about 30 mins of me trying to remember my old account password I loged into to my old e-mail account, and sure enough there it was a weekend beta invite.
I'm 100% convinced no matter what Sw:tor is telling us that the ones getting the beta invites first are the ones that did "NOT" pre-order the game, sure they might be doing random invites aswell for the ones that did pre-order but the ones that have a account on Sw:tor that did pre-order not get in first.
Test it out and see if you have a old account or did not pre-order yet, i'm willing to bet that you got a invite, 4 of my friends did and myself on a old account, this is more then a coincidence.
So far it looks like your conspiracy theory is debunked. BTW I got an invite for this weekend and I never even signed up for beta. The ONLY reason Bioware has my information is because of there other games (same with EA). Yet I got an invite. I thought about trying the beta just so I could see for myself I was making the right choice (for me) not to buy it since I wasnt going to play skyrim. But a budd of mine had me come over today to see what I thought of skyrim and after an hour TOR loses out to skyrim this weekend lol.
"If you have previously tested or are currently participating in an ongoing test, you will be invited again. Additional details for this upcoming test will be announced soon."
Got my email today aswell for the Beta weekend invite -
I'm guessing that any codes or whatever would be sent via email or something
Edit:
Also - "This will help ensure we meet our population goals, so we can effectively stress test our servers in preparation for launch"
so yeh im going to bet loads of people are going to get invites
It was random lol. That said friday update sorta kills this thread now. Everyone signed up before nov 11th gets into the next beta weekend test if u havent already.
Also with sites like massively ign and others given out keys u can get in that way also. So this thread is now no longer necessary.
UPDATE: I just got another beta invite but this time on my pre-ordered account: )
/Theory Debunked : (
Everyone AND anyone who registered and opted in for Beta testing before Nov 11th will be invited for the future weekend. While it's 'technically' not an Open Beta - it's pretty darn close - with over a million and a half registered on the SWTOR site for beta, along with however other many thousands of 'keys' gives to sites all over.

If they are planning on "breaking" the servers to make sure they can handle the load, they are going about this the correct way, lol.
LoL @ all the haters from other games who will be scrambling to get the beta keys when sites get them.
I have to change my vote, because not only did I get into this weekend's test (too bad the site is down down down,) but I also got an invite to a future test.
Bioware must be really confident in this game if they're willing to let people play two weekends and experience a much larger portion of the game than what you can do in a single weekend.
I pre ordered didn't register my preorder (so it's like I didn't and got an invite but in all fairness I have a friend who is has his preorder registered and coded and he got an invite.....
The reason its not an open beta is the nda is still in effect. I understand why that is and it has nothing to do with game but the story. They want to keep story spoilers from flooding the web until the very last moment.
I got my invite from being on the request list on the official forums for so long. That was back when I had hope for the game, turned down the invite, Ill let you guys have at it.

Yeah, that's the one I got.
I already got (on Tuesday) the invite for this weekend's beta test.
Today I got another notification, and I think lots of people did, that you will be invited to a FUTURE test, details to be announced shortly.
So, thumbs up, you'll get in soon.

Umm.... from your data collected thus far.. It would appear that they are sending random invites.

I had two accounts, one with pre-order, one without. They both got the invite.
Another crybaby proven wrong.

Nda allows them to protect the story.
