The main problem is not the fantasy games, it is the mmorpg setting.

You play to get your character better armor and be stronger.

Isn't there something cooler and as addictive as that?

There is no modern fantasy mmo out there at the moment. so: no i am really not tired. EQ2, Vanguard, WoW.... to name some, they are all old and dirty. I hope they bring out some new top quality fantasy mmos out soon. It is about time!

No, not at all. I'd love to see a Forgotten Realms MMO or something similar. The current offerings I feel don't complement the potential of the genre. Racial politics, crafting, expansion, warfare and many other features are all underwhelming the genre. It's the games themselves, not the genre behind them, that is the problem.

Sounds to me like you aren't a fantasy gamer.  All of the games you listed seem to lean to the sci fi/realism genre(Eve, STO, Fallen Earth, World of Tanks, SWTOR, TSW and Planetside 2).

I dont find it suprising you are trying to draw others to your camp by trashing fantasy storytelling.  Truthfully sci fi stories can be just as repetitive as those fantasy ones you are referring to.  That isn't always the case though, in any art form there will be a ton of mediocre creations and very few great ones.

I personally still love fantasy and sci fi in most of their forms.  But I have to admit, I've never played a sci fi game that was able to suck me in like a few of those fantasy based ones I've played since I started MMO's in 2000.  And I've definitely tried a lot of them.

Just to question the philosophy. Army of Socrates.

No I'm not tired of the Fantasy MMOs.

I don't like sci-fi, steampunt or whatever MMOs.

SW is ok because it's fantasy too.

Fantasy and lore aren't the problem, mechanics are. Even if a new Lore was introduced to the game worlds of the internet, the mechanics would be the same and in short time the optical illusion would fade.

Sick......so sick I think i have "fantasy AIDS" and I don't belive I will ever recover.  If I see another elf, another dwarf....an orc, I shall punch my screen and shatter it to a billion little pieces. I don't even play Warhammer and Warcaft RTS's because I'm so sick of them....and I loved playing that stuff as recently as a year and a half ago.  The lot of you stating that there is nothing wrong with the fantasy genre, it's not stale it's the mechanics.  Well how about this:

I'm playing SWTOR and I'm happy there!!! And it's only WOW reskinned in space.  So to me it does have a huge difference as where the setting of the game is.  Same reason why I always read sci fi novels and never read any fantasy ones.  Then there are you who complain about not having a good fantasy mmo.  What the hell do you want?

    1. World of Warcart

    2. Dungeons and Dragons

    3. Lord of the Rings

    4. Warhammer Online

    5. Everquest 2

    6. Final Fantasy XI

    7. Final Fantasy XIV

    8. Aion

    9. Rift

    10. Guild Wars

A list of 10!!!  And they were/are all AAA titles made with big ass budgets with big muscle behind them.  Then there's the hundreds of F2P fantasy mmo's as well.  You're telling me you can't find a game that suits you?  The reason I can't is I'm just tired and sick of it.

Sadly there's more of this fantasy crap on the horizon and not enough sci fi.  And no I don't care for Warhammer 40k MMO at all.....because of those damn elves and dwarves and orcs....and ughh.....bleh.....

    agreed!

My first elf was 31 years ago....WTF!!!!!!!!!!

I did enjoy playing Fallen Earth for no other reason that its an entirely different genre.

post apocalyptic, sci-fi, real life or 'world of darkness' type genre only (I guess that is macabe)

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

Please do not respond to me

I'm completely burnt out with the fantasy setting. I will never play another fantasy based mmo, regardless of other aspects of the game. I'm sick of swords and sorcery and orcs and elves and dwarves and all the other accoutrements. Any other setting is preferable.
