I will probably play the game, just not at release. Don't really trust funcom to have a quality launch.

I do like the persistent faction warzone, just not the limit of 50 people from each faction. I can see trying to get into the fight, but it is always full. Also what if your whole guild wanted to go in, would be waiting forever. Kind of silly to have a limit. Any balance issues by having no limit are counteracted by that 3rd faction.  That was what made daoc so great. Having 3 factions going at it, with no limit to the number.

If google didnt use a profit based algorithm instead of a relevance to search term based one, i wouldnt be so opposed. But forcing us to use google just really doesnt work for me. Pity. i liked everything else about this game.

I don't see the issue, if you don't like Google you can read up on your conspiracy theories somewhere else. They don't force you to logg on to it, it is just a help make the game feel more real.

Hype is great and all, but Funcom = Failcom for a reason. Age of Conan and it's launch, anyone?

I will state up front that I WANT this game to succeed and be cool as hell. I also WANT to play it.

But I WILL wait until it's been out for like 3 months to see if it's a thing of real potential, or if it's the half baked potato of fail that would best be avoided.

Box price + subscription + item shop + advertisements from google in game + Failcom = No thanks!

I think they are getting a bit greedy with this one.

Very glad to hear that there will be a lot of options for character creation.  The same old 3 avatars I had been seeing were making me nervous! And, yes, I am one of those players who will take an hour to build the perfect toon!  Stoked for this game!

The three quest limit thing is amazing...

Basically everything I read here was amazing... better than I thought it was currently... This is true innovation imo. GW2/TSW are pretty much the only things I'm looking forward too. I think TSW is higher than GW2 for me, but as TSW is further away it makes me sad.

"Balance to players means that they win 2/3 of the time." - Ain't that the truth!

I was pleasantly surprised when I went from Apprentice to full 5 star Elite in under 2 months. I was pleasantly surprised again when I went from Elite to just barely Hardcore in 2 weeks. Apprentice, here I come!

Sounds very interesting, I'm not a huge fan of PVP, but I do enjoy puzzles.

Does anyone remember Perplex City from a few years ago?

    Hmmm. The Secret World.

I have been monitoring this game since its announcement a few years ago. Has it been years already? Sheesh. Went to the forums that were teeming with speculation and activity. There was an ARG, I got involved and have some nifty little coded card for it. Nothing happened since then, the ARG's stopped and everyone was hangin off of Tornquists twitter feed. The forums are still an active place for conspiracy theory, speculation and conversation about TSW, check it out.

Since then I have learned much more about TSW. I am intriqued, yet find it equally hard to get overly excited about it anymore.

I do like 500 skills and no template, create your own class.

I do like no armor or weapons in the game, everything is based off buying skills.

I do not like the fact that some skills have the possibility to be bought from the CS.

I do not like the fact that it may become a meta-gaming min-maxers dream, "this build or go home-can you heal, I'll tank-we need a fire mage" etc...

I do like the fact that it has three realms or factions.

I do not like compartmentalized PvP, like warzones, but if its the zone is available 24/7 and you can jump in, jump out then it will create a nice diversion for questing/dungeon crawling.

I do like the real world setting and real world research. Google was, is and will always be my friend.

Please admit that you never consulted a wiki about any game while playing it.

I do like the Illuminati, since they are based in NY and I'm from NY, it seems like a perfect fit.

I do not like games with subscriptions and item malls. It is what I call double-dipping the player.

I do not like overhyped games cough ::: Star wars :::cough::: especially when they do not live up to it and it costs people money to find out the hard way.

INB4: "Yeah, but you bought Skyrim on release!" Yes, I did, but am a big fan of the series, Bethesda has an incredible track record and I was already talking to Australia about it who were saying OMGZGOTY!

What I am going to do, what I suggest to anyone: Let this game get released, sit back and let the first-nerd-herd (tm) run in and watch the reaction for a month or two. If the reviews and attitude are overly positive, then you will know what to do.

    Don't get burned again.

Sounds promising.  Hopefully, Funcom will let this bake in the oven until its ready.  Funcom really can't deny the fact that launching AoC when it did really hindered the game's overall potential.

From everything I learned on my trip, I would say that Funcom is a company that's actually learned from its mistakes and will make good on this one.

Hmm. Interesting you say that. They failed with AO which was a amazing game with so many innovations. They then failed with AoC. They are 0 for 2. How is that learning.

They have already said PvP are instanced battleground

not sure if there are no open world PvP, they gave reason to the three factions 'know' each other, but they understand they need each other to survive.

    lol

I think they have said they don't have open world pvp but they have persistent zones for pvp to fight for domination and give advantages for your faction.

YEs they have both a bg style of pvp, and a form of open zone faction vs faction vs faction warzone that when held gives your side bonuses till it is taken away from that group. So in ways t caters to both a bg pvp group and to aa more open persistent style of pvper (thoough not to a open world pvp as the other zones are not pvp enabled outside of the warzones.).

    1. Business Model - Box buy plus subscription plus cash shop is pretty much a deal breaker in itself.  I learned my lesson with LotRO.  It can get expensive.

100% agree-if you are paying a sub, you should be provided everything that an mmo should come equipped with. And i don't want to hear about "fluff" items. Things like better clothing etc. should all be in character creation. If you pay a sub, you shouldn't have to pay extra so you don't look like everyone else or to have the look you want.

    2. Google?  Really?:  If they just offered an in game browser, one that we could choose ourselves, that might be fine.  But I don't want some half-assed ancient engine that doesn't work the way I want pointing directly to Google.

     Don't see the problem here.

    3. Limited Skill Set:  I don't like the idea that somehow in the middle of battle I've forgotten my other skills and can't call on them as need arises.

On the fence here. Could make it more challenging, but the first time in a doungeon I get stuck unable to finish because I don't have a certain skill equipped I'd be pretty ticked off.

    4. Limited Quests:  Is this a solution without a problem?  Why the need to narrowly control what players do?

I kind of like this one. When u can carry 50 quests around it is less like a real story and more like just following a map, fighting for no purpose except for xp/skillpts. Doing one quest at a time will feel more like progressing in a story.

Funcom, like Turbine, has these grand ideas that they never quite follow through with.  They also have a glacial development pace so problems always seem slow to fix.  I'll watch it and see what happens and maybe even try it if there is ever a free trial, but my expectations are very low.

I'm not sold on Funcom's ability to achieve these great ideas, as i was burned on AoC launch, too. But if the do this could be a genre changing game. Or, at least really fun.

Writing off a company for two launches that did not go well or completely fail s a flawed reasoning to avoid another game. Why then go and try the second game or even the first game that a company puts out, i mean they could not have known or learned anytthing at all. If they failed at 10 or 15 games then sure i could see avoiding it, but two games is laughablle, maybe we should kick kids out of school for failing two test or even grades, since they do not seem to be learning ahything wasteing out taxpayer money as well as the teachers trying to teach them. When did t become about how well a launch goes over how much you enjoyed the game itself. I will be playing it and letting people that i know who are unsure of if they want to play it give it a wirl on my account, and to my knowledge there has been no great launches in many years.

@ ropenice: Not going to say your wrong on not wanting to have things in a cash shop even if they are largely just fluff, but having aditional items that can be gotten via a cash shop to give the developer more money to push out more content and keep the game going s not somethign i would be against at all. Why that is is mostly that i play to enjoy the game and if i can by a few items that make me enjoy it, and make it that the company can push out more content for me to enjoy then to me that is  a choice we both win in taking. Also till we see the diversity in attire within the game not really worth saying you would have to buy anything to look different, but buying an item to get the perfect look i could see perfectly.

Limited choies make for nmore interesting styles of play as not everyone can just be a healer, dps, tanker, and support character all at the same time, but will have to specailize in one of two areas to net a good proformance with others going other directions via the many forms of weapons and spells. In combat no changing skills although in instances and other areas you can change out abblities as you need to complete tasks so you would most likely not find yourself unable to conntinue. Well unless f no one had chosen to grab a healing orr some other role abbilities to help out inn that case, which will get less of a issue as time goes by with people having more time to learn and buy other abbilities. Also i am sure that their will be no skills that are completely unique to one group for usage role, like only one magic group for healing alone, or weapon for tanking.

Really hype up for this game. Currently on par with gw2 on my hype list.

  • sofakingdumbsofakingdumb Member Posts: 54

Ughhh not sure where you have been lately (probably on Xbox), but Funcom revamped AoC and it is surviving. Yes it was a rocky launch but besides WoW, there has not been another big launch that has gone successful. Actually, wow was shakey at first as well with server crashes and mass patches.

But all games change over times. AoC got better, and wow got horrible. So you cannot judge based on a launch of an old game.

I think the "Thinking mans game" scared you.

  • NeytiriNeytiri Member Posts: 1

Alt? But my alt is very bad. Why not main?

  • MundusMundus Member UncommonPosts: 237

Questing is accomplished in phases as well. Players can only collect three quests at a time (one main mission, one faction quest and one side quest) but you never feel limited by that as quests are tiered with several objectives that have to be met before the quest is actually completed. This really helps eliminate the “FedEx” feel that so many MMOs have these days.

That's the best part for me, really. I hated it in AoC when I had dozens of quests in my journal, which then only felt like a huge list of chores to do. Which they were of course, but that's another problem.

  • ScotScot Member LegendaryPosts: 24,273

Until players stop getting "hyped" by a few pictures and a review of one days play the MMO industry will continue to languish in the doldrums. But it will still make lots of cash so thats OK then!

  • ElricmerrenElricmerren Member Posts: 295

Not sure i would use hyped in this caase aas mot people are just happy to see something that is not wow-like in alot of it's features as well as concepts, even if you put it as hyped it is alot of people getting hyped about playing something that looks as well as seems newer then our last several mmos.  Both the concept of this game ass well as it's looks are different and new to the game scene compared to the rescent mmos that have be launched. I mean with the 7 power (active an passive.) system that will be making people have to create a set-up  that suits their playstyle with 500 powers to use in this it leads to alot of combonations without any real barriers to combining them, outside of maybe weapon-based powers possibly. Add in a more active free form questing sysstem that with some of them you might need to get more info thru rl investigation. Also having your gear not be as much of an effect on the output of your character so that you can actually look the way you want in game, over having to look a certain way since that gear provides the best output for your character. One of the huge downsides for me atleast for thiss game is that we have heard little about if we will be able to have combat pets, like powers to conjure up and control demons, constructs and the sort as a way of having a pet centric character.

  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

It's WAY to early to make a sweeping "I'll love it (or like it)" versus "I'll hate it (not like it)". I haven't tried it for myself to be able to make that decision and probably won't for a while, since they mentioned 6 months before they will be ready for launch.

A couple of notes on what was mentioned and what a few people pointed out.

    1. Limited skill system: If there is a limit to 8 active skills, they will have to make the game playable with/to 8 active skills. No more (and hopefully not less) challenging than games with more active skills available. Not an issue, imo.

    2. Google: I rarely use search engines/game database sites. If I get seriously stuck somewhere then fine but otherwise no (relating to quests..I frequently research skills and actions like crafting etc). Having Google built into the game is not immersion breaking as some mentioned but rather the first step in a rapidly down spiraling trend toward building advertising into MMOs (conspiracy theory here). Obviously in a swords and sorcery it's going to be hard to advertise the latest 4G smart phone, but where it will work, games will pile it on. Not terribly long ago F2P/cash shops (for AAA titles) were a big 'No Way'. A couple of games switch their pricing model (D&D Online, LotRO etc) and now every 'less successful' AAA immediately switches. Building Google into the game and saying 'it's required to use Google to get answers so we built it in' is just a way to milk advertising dollars from Google and it's advertiser's. I offer the suggestion that if this game succeeds, you'll see a rise in this 'in-game advertising' wherever possible. More income from advertising than subs over time.

    3. Cash Shop: I'll agree with people saying Cash shop OR sub. Some will offer the argument 'just don't use it'. Personally I wouldn't  but   it still is a model I vehemently disagree with. One or the other. (added to the Google thing....meh)

That's about it. I can't say as I will or will not play. I do play most AAA titles over time. This one interests me but also has me already shying away on principal. *shrug* If someone were to ask me definitely if I will or will not play right now I would say 40% chance of yes, 60% chance of no.

As with all things, time will tell.
