I loved the game in beta, but I never subbed because it just wasn't the sort of game that warrants a subscription. To me, it's the sort of the game you pick up and play when you feel like it and forget about it the other 95% of the time. I've been waiting for it to go F2P for quite some time and was pretty stoked at the annoucnment a couple months ago.
Since it's been F2P, I've been playing it but I can't say that I've really been enjoying it. The login queues, the slow load screens, and the lag pretty much throw everything out that makes the game great. One of the things I liked most about the Beta, was it was virtually lag free.
The F2P is far from being lag free and it actually results in a pretty un-enjoyable experience. In this sort of game, I was surprised how they had handled latency issues to create a great game that was a fun action MMORPG, the likes of which we've never really seen before. Now in the F2P, the game is full of lag and it's to the point where it's not even enjoyable. Forget the part about not being able to pick it up and play when you get the urge, when you actually get into the game it's pretty lame to be in a fight beating some Cop's or Heroes butt, just to find out that you've been stunned for the last 3 seconds and are almost dead after the game catches up.
I really can't believe they have ruined such a great game, by not giving it adequate servers to handle the loads of the players. I understand that F2P right now probably has more players than they will have in the next 6months, but you'd figure a long standing corporate giant in the MMO industry would understand that and prepare for it, to be able to retain free subscribers to spend money on the game.
To me, it's like SOE is saying:
"This game didn't make profit quotas. We'll give it a shot as F2P, but we really don't give a rat's ass about it. Play it if you want. Or the game will just die."

So what's the poing of your post? The game is so bad that hundreds of thousands of people are logged in playing?
I installed this game yesterday and today I am giving up playing it. Bcs of the lagg its unplayable! Last night lagg, today whole day lagg!
Face the truth
I'm afraid it must be a problem on your end. Thousands of people are playing with little to no lag, including myself. For me, beta was when I had problems. I would suggest doing a full CCleaner (or something similar) scan of your computer, it helped me.
Antivirus firing off scans when you try to play? maybe slowing down all your PC. Long shot, but it's happened before.......
Yeah was about to say the same... No real problem with lag and actuall players to run with/against... Much better then it was before.
But if you have problem with lag and ques give it a few weeks and check it out again.
This have been a good conversation
I haven't experienced any of the in-game issues that you've mentioned, but I can relate to the horrendous queue. Now that SOE has made it so Legendary players skip the queue, it has been much quicker getting in. I think I would look on your end to see if there is a problem causing your lag. I have a pretty crappy internet connection and I haven't had any lag issues lately.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Perhaps I should mention that I'm playing on PS3? Does that make a difference? PSN has always been bad though.
I played Beta on PC with a Controller.
@praymes, I installed first day of F2P. So, I guess it's been a couple weeks now? Something like that. I don't remember exactly when it was.
I have been playing this game since it went free to play and I love it, I have only lagged a couple of times and it wasnt bad why are all you people crying about it? WoW had a terribly laggy launch, its almost IMPOSSIBLE to make an MMO without lag if you dont like it you dont have to play but I havent had much trouble with queues, and the lag has been non existant 80% of the time.
Mystery Bounty
Apart from the first few days I have had no queues and no real lag to speak of, other than the inevitable lag when peak time hits. Even then the game has been playable.
As I've mentioned in another thread, my main gripe is the lack of content in the game. It seems like a very "bare bones" kind of MMO. The Mission content is way too easy at the moment, and I reached lvl 22 in four days without ever needing to group to do a Mission. Not a good sign.
I'm quite surprised how few power types there are, as well. They're only JUST about to realease the Electricity Power, for example.
not sure what DC online your playing but I am having 0 issues and i've played in beta launch and now in free to play.
I absolutely 100% think this is your issue. A million people will now continue to post "MUST BE YOU I AM FINE GAME ROCKS QQ!!!!" but I am sure the vast majority of them are on PC.
Its a totally infrastructure for PS3 and I wouldnt be shocked if the PS3 had *far* more players. Its a console beat-em-up game at its core and the vast majority of PC MMO fans (which is a *tiny* # anyway really) moved on about a month after launch and arent coming back. Im a lifetime sub and dont even have it installed any more. The game is too shallow and boring to warrant more than a month or two of time.
Try again in Feb and it will almost surely be empty again, free or not. There's just no content beyond endless grind/PVP/rinse/repeat
Yes the PS3 has a lot more players playing. The queue is still there even now, I'm a legendary account so I don't have one but when my girlfriend logs in it's around 2.5k people on a weeknight. There isn't really any lag in game anymore, but during the F2P launch their servers were getting hit with INSANE amounts of people upwards of about a 12k queue while trying to log in. It died down to the core people who are going to keep playing now, and that's still a very very high population. It's quite nice actually.
For what it is, it's a fun deversion. Not something i'd ever fully sink my teeth into or pay anything for (already knew this during last years pre-launch beta).
I've been playing it on the PS3 however, and see it basically as a free game to hop into for a bit when bored, not much else.
The PVP servers can be pretty fun for some senseless running/flying around the city and getting into random fights along the way, or actually playing "hero" and defending noobie areas from griefers lol.
It's actually something I don't see sticking around on the PS3 for long though. From what I understand not many people on PS3 are actually paying anything or ever plan to, mostly for the reasons I mentioned for myself.
