Has anybody seen what they have done with final fantasy XI?

I havent played in like 5 years, cancelled character and all that junk, but i got an attack from the nostalgia fairy, and decided to pay another visit.  I started a new character, went outside of windurst, and found a "field book" or something of that name, that offered you quests for hunting monsters (ie kill 6 monsters of the madragora family) and i got rewarded with 270 xp and 270 gil, along with 27 tab points, which im still not sure what they do...  Also once i killed one of my many enemies, it dropped a treasure chest, which i could attempt a series of combinations to unlock.  there are also treasure caskets they will drop at times that do not require a combination.

I am very excited, ive heard of other new things as well, some kind of synergy craft system that i have no idea about, but i will be looking into soon.  Not sure how many ffxi peeps we got out here, but i figured if you're like me, you'd want to know that they are actually doing new stuff lol, not exactly an entire revamp, but still neat that they made solo'ing easier, and that they got rid of a lot of the gil sellers...

Here is a link to a lot of the changes that have taken place since i last played, if they might be new to you as well.  Hope this helps any other ffxi fans!!

Take your time and enjoy it.  The thing not to do is rush thorugh the game, because the new end-game {ala Abyssea} is really not as great as it sounds.  More or less it has changed the way most people play XI now, and making pretty much all of the content between 1-75 obsolete, although that is only in regards to the gear and weapons.   If you know the right people to leech from, you could literally go from lvl 30-95 in about 14 or so hrs in Abyssea, maybe less depending how good the alliance is, and thats primarily the main reason I don't like what Abyssea did to the whole of XI.

The quests and missions are still just as good as they've ever been, and definitely worth playing through, however, finding help for many of them these days can be very difficult.  Once you get to 95 though, then you can just go back and solo/duo the missions that required groups at that time.  When last I played {about 1yr}, there were still quite a few that loved to play as originally intended and enjoy forming PTs for old XP camps long forgotten or in general that just don't get used anymore, but sometimes it can be awhile to find em, but its worth the wait!

The PT system is still as good as its ever been and a great means to meet some interesting people, and earn friendships.   Having been gone for 5yrs, I implore you to enjoy the journey and engage in all the wonderful changes and storylines you've missed out on...you won't regret one second of it~!

I came back after having not played in 7 years.  I can't say that I regretted it though.  It was not only nice to see some of my old friends that I haven't seen in years still playing but it was good to see some of the old characters I had come to enjoy.  I was NOT able to restore my original character and ended up having to start from scratch but that's ok.  Since it took me about a half hour just to remember how to move my character, starting over was the best idea.

I hear a lot of people saying how exciting the end game stuff is but I honestly didn't find it all that exciting.  I however have NOT had the chance to check out the new patch.  Square decided to migrate the old FFXI billing system to the new system they put in place for FFXIV which completely threw me off.  Since then I have not been able to play.  I got frustrated and said to hell with it. It had nothing to do with the system being good or bad, just with my account it was complicated.

I saw someone on this thread say to 'take your time' and I can't agree with that more.  Don't let people rush you.  Get to 90, get to 95 hurry hurry, bah...  Forget that!  Go at your own pace and enjoy what the game has to offer.  If you want to try new classes and class combinations then by all means try it out.

I also don't recommend buying into the 'speed leveling' that I see so many people do in abysea.  It's not worth it trust me.  I suggest getting at least ONE class to 90/95 before even considering it.

Who knows, maybe some day they'll fix ffxiv... *le sigh*   Enjoy the game and welcome back.

Played like 2 years then left came back for while, but yeah you would have to pay me... a lot to go back now.  I wish I had just completed Sky.  Everything after that felt like a waste of time.  Had some fun with WoW for the next 5 years though.  Whats next?  I'm sure it is not FFxiv as the game was worse than Beta, imo.  Looking forward to release of Tera

Seen it played and have not felt the same way about the game since the release of Abyssea... Some aspects since I love but most I hate mainly the trigger system which forces you to be a certain job in order to do a lot of stuff in abyssea.

Now don't get me wrong I may not agree with what they have done but still do enjoy playing it when I have the extra $15 for a sub. I still think FFXI is my favorite game and is the MMO I have spent the most time on and don't find boring after awhile.
