The easiest way to get away from these kinds of threads is to not participate in them in the first place, Teala.  Especially if you are a known hater of the game, then more than likely, you are just exacerbating the situation when you post on these threads.

Go play Skyrim.  They have a "smuggle" button in that game, don't they?

So you're implying I said the game would go free to play in 6 months.   Please link to any of my post where I state that.   ^_^  Oh and just for your information, being critical of a game does not mean a person hates it...it means they are critical of a game...criticism...you know...being critical....pointing out a games flaws does not mean one hates it.    You think you know me but clearly you don't.  I point out flaws in even games I think are really good...including Skyrim...go read my blog.

I read your blog.  And got a good chuckle out of it.   And you did predict that TOR would be a dead game in 6 months.  Maybe  your implication didn't mean F2P, but you did actually say it would be a dead game.  And you let us all know that you'd be back to revisit your prediction with us when it happened.  So yeah...that's really constructive there.

Everyone except those who like kung fu panda and hello kitty online, easy mode and like to queue for epic gear handouts.

For some reason if you come to the SWTOR forum as say an obvious troll with some weird axe to grind, or a post hack tearing down the beta based on at best a weekend, it's ok.

If you come to the SWTOR forum as a say a tester with 6 months or more of experience, and try and poke fun of, spot light them or in anyway use your actual experience to unseat them, you aren't welcome here.......on the SWTOR FORUMS.

I played it, I love it, there is no purple gear chasing, powerleveling or grinding, unless you choose too.

The graphics on the version I have are amazing.

The story arcs, romance arcs, betrayal and character immersion are amazing unless you spacebar past it all.

The companions are diverse and you will like or love or hate one of them.

The heroics are diverse and incredibly fun with friends as are the missions. I had a blast running different storied characters with friends.

The pvp was still being heavily worked on but was as good as any rpg I have played, and the foundation is there for it to only get better.

Space combat is fun and fast, a nice break when ever you need it, I hope they do more with it, as do most, but it's still fun even solo.

Best of all the game hasn't even been released yet but the quality and volume of content rivals many older games. If bioware has the numbers the pre-sales reflect they should have all the recources they need to continue adding, improving and making this title one of the best.

SWTOR may take hundreds of thousands of players from WoW for a time, but as for subs? WoW continously caters to a more casual audience, so the subs replenish themselves anyway. You think MoP will lose a lot of its hardcore base? It will. Just liike every expansion lost a chunk of its hardcore playerbase who were bitter their gear was going to be made obselete and that it was going to be made easier to get that gear the next time. I promise you theres a new playerbase out there who love the concept of a casual game with easier talents with pandas and a pokemon pet collecting system. It will attract more kids who spend more time sitting at their computer now, it will attract people without a lot of time on their hands and it could even attract more social players who place importance on cosmetics and aesthetics.

i dont know man, may be i played the wrong game. i can say its the same as wow  with poor engine, lots of lags but also  with good voiced dialogs and animations. i cant understand what  all this mess around swotor is about. Lots of games out there have great stories too. just read them. may be this is just star wars spirit i really dont know.

Now, I'm not going to make any predictions in terms of how long those players will stay with TOR, because TOR will most likely be fighting an uphill battle to keep players that left a game with 7 years of content under its belt, but believe me when I say there will be a ton of people leaving WoW to try TOR out.

Blizzard has dropped the ball big-time in terms of their content releases, and haven't added anything truly new to their endgame in ages.  And the MOP expansion and dumbing down of the talent trees was a further slap in the face to many WoW players.  Enough so that many of them figure that a new start in a different game is what they are looking for.  I'm speaking as one of those WoW players, and I have a bunch of ex-guildmates coming with me.  WoW just isn't fun anymore.

Funny saw whole guilds leave to play War and came back to WoW, saw whole guilds leave to play Aion and came back to WoW, saw whole guilds leave to play Rift and came back to WoW...I can name them as well...like Black Out and Sad Panda.   LOL   They were not small guilds either...we're talking hundreds of members.

I honestly wanted to like this game more than World of Warcraft, but I personally was pretty disappointed after playing TORs beta.  I think for the first month it'll convert quite a few people but in the long run I'd guess 500k will actually stop subscribing to WoW to exclusively play TOR.

On that note, I'm curious to see how many people signed up for that year-long subscription deal that Blizzard's running - a pretty smart move on their behalf before TOR launches.

Yeah, you may want to read my entire post, Teala.  And you may want to read the first post of the thread.  I clearly stated that I wasn't making predictions on how many of those WoW players they would keep and for how long since they would be working against a game that has 7 years of content under its belt.  I simply stated that there are a substantial number of people leaving WoW to go over to TOR.  Period.  Bioware will have to pump out content to keep the WoW fanbase that comes over happy, as they tend to be more the powergamer type.

As for your prediction of TOR being dead in 6 months, I pulled your posts from your prediction on a TOR thread from a couple months back.  Unfortunately, most of your posts on that thread were removed by a mod (go figure).  Here is one that I saw that referenced a mass exodus from TOR at the 6 month period.  And you don't exactly sound like someone who has much contructive criticism of the game.  Sounds more like a rant to me.  But whatever.

Yep...but hey, I said as much about games like  WAR, Aion, Rift, and has anyone listened? Nope.  Oh well, as a professor once said to me, '...we give you all books, and instead of reading them your dog eats them, you scribble in them, but read them...not a chance.  I do not think any of you read them.'

Once again we get a stagnat game, stagnat game play on rails(and in this game we're talking serious rails), stagnat MOBS(AI's no better than a rock), stagnat worlds(they do not even have night and day cycles!)...(BTW what I just wrote does not break the NDA - this info is all ready known or watch any relased game play video and you can see exactly what I am talking about) - this game brings absolutely nothing to the genre that hasn't been done before - and better in most cases.   I give the game 6 months and then we'll watch the exodus begin.

Nice trying to twist of my words but I state the exodus will begin...nowhere do I say the game will be dead in 6 months.

^^Like I said, you had other posts in that thread that were a bit more direct, and the word "dead" was used quite a bit.  Those were removed by mods.

But anyway, that post didn't seem too constructive, did it?  Maybe you were just having a bad day.

  • Drekker17Drekker17 Member Posts: 296

Well I don't think it will take that much, maybe a million at first 2 million at most, but it will lose about half of that later. Really most that are bored with WoW, aren't playing WoW, so Swtor might take most of the Vets of WoW, but not a big chunk of people actually enjoying it.

I can't wait until Blizzards new quarterly report which will show a decline, and people will be like: "See! Swtor did it!" Which wouldn't make sense, WoW is in decline with little competition, so a decline is natural...so in order for it to be really Swtor, Wow would need to lose over 2 million subs in 1 quarter.

No I have never said that with this game....in fact be my guest and go through all my post.   Never said it will go free to play, and never said it would be dead in 6 months.

  • CavodCavod Member Posts: 295

I voted 1 million because of the words 'take away'.  I don't see SWTOR having an overly huge impact on WoW ala the fabled "WoW killer" but it definitely will give it a good fight.

I also think more people will be willing to sub to both games, should they fancy both games.

While I think, at first, more than 1 million will come over, I think their pre existing, already established, I know Azeroth like the back of my hand characters will win out of sheer laziness and nostalgia.   Sometimes it's really hard to pull MMOers away from that game they've invested years and years into.  Even being better can fall short as it needs to be much, much better to exact and sever that pull.

I think the real games that SWTOR will hurt is the likes of FFXIV, Rift, LOTRO, DCUO etc.  Sure the last two are F2P and all but remember, they still have that sub option.

    Edit: Oh yeah, Aion too.

We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics.

Do you play games because you are entertained by a game? Do you play games because you like a game? Do you do things only because other people do it?

A more interesting question would be: How many players will MMOs loose (temporarily or permanently) to games like Skyrim?

We care because beta is over and we are having withdrawal! We need something to keep our brains occupied while we are suffering through the symptoms of the withdrawal.

Hell Blizzard made a great game, it was fun when it came out and for some time after.

Now it has devolved into a raid heirarchy or arena grind with people blasting through the whole game just to fit into one of those two molds.

Who is to blame fo that?

If you bring that mentality to SWTOR and spacebar through the whole game, it's your issue not Biowares.

I completely agree, but  that is the sad reality of the players that will flock to SW:ToR.  Watch...we saw it in so many games since WoW.   People will just rush to max level and then go...now what?   Yes ToR has PvP BG's and Raids, but will that be enough to keep people playing past a certain point or will they become disillusioned and go back to whatever game they have more time invested in?   I had a couple of friends that swore  they'd never go back to WoW once War was released.   Then the same for Aion and Rift...guess what they are playing tonight?   I just left them in WoW because they are going to run a raid with some other friends.   Too funny.   Oh and they both have CE's for SW:ToR.   :)

Because too many insecure people posts on this site thats why.  This is* 99% of MMORPG.com topics:

OP: Beta sucks (insert game will be better).

    P1: Nuh uh

    P2: ^i agree

OP: Nuh uh no innvation here my game will be better

    P3: ^i agree completely

P1: Nuh uh my game will be better you just wait and see.

Nothing constructive or game related ever gets talked here, ever. Even if there is a game related post here that actually talks about character specs, or in game guides, or useful info from devs or swtor.com gets buried under topics such as these. I know i will get modded for this but w/e.
