Oh ya....sort of like how McDonald's coffee has a "Hot" warning label. Soon, on Big Mac's there will be, "Warning, can cause obesity, choking hazard, possibly cause of addiction, or even dislike." Candy will have, "Possibility to cause Cavities". MMRPG's will have, "Possibly cause for grief, suicide, addiction, and or melting your brain."

People these days are morons, they get fat from eating and try to sue. They spill coffee on themselves and SUE BECAUSE THEY SPILLED IT ON THEIR FREAKIN SELF AND DIDNT THINK IT"D BE HOT. Or a case where some lady threw a drink at her boyfriend, then when she left to get out of the restraunt, she sued because she slipped and fell on the drink she spilled.

Oo! I know whats next, if you fall down on a sidewalk, they're going to sue the city because of mental and physical anguish.

Yea, if he's 21 and still lived with his parents AND didn't have anything to do with his life, thus playing EQ 12 hours a day... Suicide was inevidable.

If people would learn to get a life instead, these kinds of things wouldn't happen.

yup,i mean some african americans (the dumb ones, which isn't alot, as many are smart) sued the U.S. for pain and anguish from slavery! that stopped years ago! and it isn't the U.S.'s fault! other african tribes were selling their prisoners for money and guns! they should go and sue themselves.

the fact is the slaves were PURCHASED from the AFRICAN TRIBES then sold to BUYERS, and if ur sold u become property which, although wrong, means u belong to your master. if they wanna sue sum1 they should've sued africa.

and fat people, they sue McDonalds for making them fat, fact is they bought the food from there, making it THEIR FOOD and no long MCDONALD's FOOD so it was the fat person's fault for eating the french fries, coca cola float, 3 jumbo cokes, 10 big macks, 20 happy meals, and 100 other things in one meal

This sure isn't new in our country. People have been passing on their own responcibilities to others to gain money and/or to get some sort of validation that it isn't their fault. No matter how big or small, a good figure of the population has always tried to pass on responcibility to others and not face it themselves that they screwed up, failed, neglected or just even ignored-denied there is a problem. Until they are forced to confront it, then they look everywhere, but themselves to pass the blame. A lot out there can't handle the responcibilities of their own failures, so they give it to others to make it go away.

Ones I remember are when I guy killed 3 teenages and his parents blamed Id Software for their game called Doom. Saying that the game desensitized their son to killing, the sight of blood and shooting human type characters with a handgun and shotgun. But the news article never mentioned that the guy had a lot of social problems prior to even playing Doom and even had a collection of guns. He was an outcast at school and even threated to kill people even before Doom came out.

Another is where a guy killed himself while listening to Ozzy Osbourne's "Suiside". I don't know if the family won or not back then in 1981 or not.

What all this tells me is that we have people in our communities and there are even more just waiting to blow up and lose control to do something they have been thinking about for a long time now and all they need is just something to set them off to push them over that edge. These people should seek help and not make our society pay for their negligence of getting support.

What will happen next? A guy that staves to death from playing his favorite MMO rather than going to get something to eat? So his family sues the MMO Dev for making such an addictive game?

I think people need to take more responcibility of their "OWN ACTIONS"!!!

i remember when d&d had the suicide outbreak too i think i just laughed if the parents are so worried about it dont buy the blasted games or watch their kids especially one that have mental problems. it the parents not the damn games they just like to blame society on their parenting abilitys.

  • killerTwinkiekillerTwinkie Member CommonPosts: 1,694

It's not really the parents fault, nor the game companies or society.  If the game was something that calmed him down from his mental problems then its what soothes him.  If you took that away from him the results could have been worse depending on the variances of his handicap.

I believe that anything can be a good thing as long as it's done in sequences and not in bulk.  yeah, the kid had problems, yeah he played a game. its no ones fault.

Why blame ANYTHING on a freak accident.  That's like.. blaming retardation on music... theres no way it could happen.

Not completely, but parents do have alot to do with how their kids grow up. You have idiot lush parents....Your not exactly going to grow up well....

Besides... pre-video game era, we had suicides, rapes, murders, mass-murders, incest, and disco. The world wasn't so damn great pre-video game era, so what were they blaming then? Honestly, what ever happened to just being CRAZY? There have been a few "accused Everquest-related suicides" even one faked... DOOM <of all the outdated games...> caught heat for Columbine. <sighs>

One of the kids suffered from multiple mental disorders, as well as seeing a shrink, was recluse, no "romantic relationships", mother "noticed" he was crackin' out on EQ or spending hours and hours playing the game <those who have played EQ are guilty of this, or at least extremely likely> but I don't think any of you blew your heads off... otherwise you wouldn't be reading this...image

Perhaps, in addition to warnings of epilepsy and such, they should add as well in the disclaimer "Not to be played by people who are fu**ed in the head."

"There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain."

I've noticed older people who are still immature and won't take responsibility for their lives ALWAYS run for their lawyer any time something goes wrong.

I feel that woman maybe should have take her son's computer away, rather than b!tching after the kid shot himself.

Where'd he get the gun anyway? I thought it was swords and Magic only in EQ.

Pointing the finger of blame at others proves someone is still mentally 10 years old. I don't care how many lawyers she has. She's plain childish.

How can you believe in something that was proven false by its founder, and disowned?
