EA Strikes again with customer service

I don't know about the EA customer service itself(hopefully I never have a bad enough problem where I would need to use them) but I know trying to order off of Origin was a giant PITA.

I wanted my codes ASAP so I just figured I would go digital. Everything was fine until I would put in the order and get a "payment not autorized" message. I tried again by using different browsers, clearing the cache, even restarting the comp. Nothing ended up working. Finally I tried thier live chat which took about 30 mins to get through the queue and was connected to someone named Rutnag(not even making this up) who proceeded to tell me it was my fault and something must be wrong with me or my card. The best part was when he said I wasn't in the serviceable area, but I only live in the same state as EA lol.

After close to 3 hours, I said screw it, went to Amazon and got the code, box and delivery day guarantee for the same price. Took all of 5 mins. For something with such a high profit margin as a digital sale, I don't see why EA would have such a lousy ordering processing system which is costing them probably tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars form frustrated people that just purchase elsewhere.

Members in my guild have had the same issue and on the official facebook page I have read loads of players having issues with customer service and wait times.

You gotta love game launches, at least this is a good sign, looks like a mega feckload of people signing up and getting their freak on with SWTOR

It's an account login error. Not a game error.

The OP isn't even about the game itself. Really have we run out of reasons to call people haters that we have to target people talking about account login issues?

no but dont expect you to wait but there only fraction people handling customer service. like other guy said he had great reply from customer service and i think either there under staffed yet or OP is trying to make customer service look bad. also how you treat customer service will determine how they treat you and your case. if op was rude then theres why

I find it easier to believe that you had a dyslexic moment and put the answers in backwards yourself.

moral of this story is write down the answers seperately from your memory.... cause 3 years down the road are you going to remember exactly how you answered the question?

    *grins*

Or you could ask UO, warhammer, doac players about customer service, as they all got migrated to the new system :)

It is a bit broken still, so good luck if you run into troubles

The OP states that he was satisfied with the customer service itself, and the representative he had was nice and helpful. His only realy complaint was about not having a canada number.

    ... <_<

Had a similar problem earlier today, (change in PC hardware caused the we don't recognize your pc line) Had to type my security question 4 times before it stuck, spelled the same each and every time.

Clealy stated that they can't handle security questions through e-mails.

As for toll free calling: Skype - make call - set country as US. Worked like a charm from sweden, don't need any credits or anything. Friendly american guy solved my issues after I waited about 30min in line, not to long considering the number of pre-orders.

The security questions system is however, very flawed :/

Sounded like the customer service was actually pretty good, no?

I try an alternate spelling of it. No luck. I try one more time watching as I type to make sure I spell it right... Nope, and now my account is locked until I contact customer support!

So I use the customer email contact on their web page and 2 hours later I get a response (actually two hours isn't bad, other games I've had to wait days for a response. Not mentioning any names but EQII, I'm looking in your direction) Now this wonderful email tells me that they don't handle security issues through email  and I have to call their customer support line. Fine, no problem. I have free long distance for anywhere in Canada and the USA.

So I look at the numbers, up, one for the USA, one for England, France, and Germany.... but no Canada. Turns out I have to call an international number (starting with a 0044) and pay long distance charges! WTF? Really? Can't have a number in Canada?

Anyway, turns out the wonderful woman from India got me fixed up pretty quick. Seems when I signed up two of my security questions got reversed. She (Wish I could pronounce her name because she was really friendly and helpful) told me that quite a few people were having this problem.

Morale of the story... Well I guess there really isn't one, I just wanted to maon about my long distance charges! Damn game is costing me money and it isn't even released yet!image

I think you should've called USA coustumer service.

Well to continue the story, they still haven't fixed my account. I tried calling them back and the message says "all our CSR are busy at the moment please call back later" and then it hangs up on you. WTF no queue?

Thanks to all who pointed out that the USA number does work in Canada, unfortunately any 800 numbers (that aren't 800 or 888) are not free for Canadians to call and are not covered by my plan.

Always glad to see so much hate for a simple bit of venting though!

Toll-free numbers in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) are sometimes called "One-800 numbers" after the original area code which was used to dial them. They include the area codes 800 since 1967, 888 (since 1996), 877 (since 1998), 866 (since 2000) and 855 (since 2010)

These toll-free numbers can normally be called from any phone in Canada or the US, though the owner (and sometimes the provider) can put restrictions on their use

Not a hack you should have gotten a few emails about security asking you to change your password and setup the security questions.

I can feel your anger. This game is defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike this game down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards towards the Dark Side will be complete.

I doubt it. Try it again tomorrow when the servers are to be up and running. I have had issues with the website not taking my password even though it was correct. It was because of too much traffic. It messed up the website and that is probably the problem you are having.

The system is pretty f'd if it is asking for an answer to a security question that I never did choose.  Sorry but to me that sounds like someone messing/tampering with accounts or EA/Origin messing it up on their end.  OMG Origin messing things up ? LOL

Then check your inbox/spam for an email from them telling you that you needed to reset your password and update to the new security questions.  If you have it, hopefully the link will still work.  If not, you're going to have to call them.

The security questions are intensely obnoxious.

    Oh my god, thank you.

Tried the number and it works. But the lines were closed. I'll save the number on my Skype and try it when it opens up soon hopefully.

"At present, all our lines are busy." Wonderful.
