So I'm just starting to get into MMORPG's again after like a 12 or so year gap from my Runescape days. What would probably be the most advanced/up-to-date MMORPG? The reason behind all of this is because i need a break from all this FPS'n I have seemed to fallen into for the past few years lol.
Any help is MUCH thanks on this end.

The one that launches this week would be a good bet, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Lots of similarities to games like WoW and Rift so easy to understand and get into.
rift might be good for you..no brainpower needed...very pleasing on the eye and recentely released and reasonable subs
Best thing you can do right now is play Skyrim. It is epic.
MMOs have been all feeling the same lately but maybe that will be new to you?

I've just casted 200yds with a big juicy worm waiting for the first bite.
Yeah. I loved KOTOR2 but it isnt MMO. I'll have to look into it!
thanks, im not big on this whole forum deal yet so bear with.
yes. i need it now. ill probably go with PC.
The old republic that will release the 20th is the best thing you can do, its easy enough to get into as a "noob" and everyone will be a "noob" of sorts since its a compleetly new game and there wont be years of experiece you are lacking compared to the masses.
Don't forget the mods

why would i do that? something that dynamic/epic as tits wouldnt be simply forgot! you crazy?!
Most advanced, up to date:
Age of Conan, Aion, and Lord of the Rings Online come to mind. Of the three only Aion is pure subscription. The other two have free to play options so you can check them out without any purchase.
Rift should also be in there. It's subscription but I'm fairly sure there's a free trial. Of the four, I'd guess Rift is probably the one that's most hungry for subscriptions and punching out new content quickly. It's also the newest of the ones mentioned above.
Fallen Earth is also new-ish. It's free to play now. A post apocalyptic shooter with some sandbox elements (very rare these days).
Star Wars The Old Republic is brand new, releasing in a week or so. Early access people are getting in today. Thousands of threads about it here on MMORPG.com.
uhh what in the world? and why was he deleted?
well now. thank you. ill have to check all these out. good thing theres no need for google! haha again, thank you. ^_^
None of the MMOs out there take much in the way of effort or brainpower to get into - they're just games. So many have free trials or ar F2P you might as well just pick one and have a dabble. That way, if you don't like the game, no harm done. I certainly wouldn't spend any money on a game until you find one you like, because some games look great from the standpoint of "videos of actual gameplay" but turn out to be crap.
Guild Wars 2 will be the top MMORPG when it comes out.

Well,, SWTOR is releasing next week and if you want to get in on a game from the start it is the best option you have unless you feel like waiting a few months, It is kinda a mix between Mass effect and Wow to describe it in a few words. f you like cut scenes and discussing with the NPcs it is a great game, if you hate the stuff you should try something else.
Then there is Rift. It is a rather basic and old fashioned MMO but with some rather advanced character customization stuff, might be a little confusing while you make the first char for a MMO noob but you get into it fast. It released early this spring so it is still new enougjh.
Those are P2P games with a monthly fee, there are a few with other models as well, like:
Guildwars. It is a few years old now (launched in april 2005) but looks great and is pretty fun. It is somewhere between a full blown MMO and Diablo (like DDO) but is very well made. It have no monthly fees but you need to buy the boxes which are cheap, and while they sell a few things online you really don't need to buy any of it, the stuff is besides the extra char slots (if you need more than 8) and the extra bank slots just stuff that makes you look different.
DDO is not that unlike GW but based on D&D. It is free but have a cash shop, and most long term players needs to spend at least some stuff in game. DDO really shines if you start playing with a few friends and talk with vent or Skype or something, it is more like a P&P game than other MMOs but it isnt't a good game for soloplayers and while you can PUG it is a lot nicer with a few friends instead.
Then there is AoC and LOTRO as well, both good games that are free but you will have to buy stuff in those games eventually, don't think anything else. Both are stunningly beutiful and huge to download.
SWTOR is a place to be.

It depends tremendously on what you like. But I will say that if you pick up a proverbial WoW-clone such as SWTOR and don't like it, then don't think that all MMORPGs are like that, as there are quite a few games that are very different. Actually, if you've played Runescape, then you know that there are games that are different. But I mean that there are games that are actually good, and different.
Im sure you could go in with any of the games already mentioned. There are alot of mmos to chose from and you dont give much information about your preferences when it comes to themes, sets or gameplay.
If you like the Star Wars IP and dont mind paying for a monthly subscription fee, i would say: go for it;
If you are not sure about what are your feeling towards current mmos, i would say: try some F2P ones. LotRO and AOC are my favourites here;
If you are crazy, like to dive into things without taking a moment to think about what you are doing, i would say: try EvE online (not an easy game to get into, but a long term satisfaction instead);
If you want to play an oldschool mmo and have couple of horus per day to spend gaming, i would say: try Vanguard, Saga of heroes. Its an outdated game, with outdated graphics and stuff, but it is huge, oldschool, immersive and the closest thing to the word RPG you can have in a MMO;
If you want to go where no man has gone before, you can try Star trek Online (pew pew pew);
If you wanna be a refugee, you can try Zentia or Atlantica Online;
If you want to go in with a big badaboom, start tracking Guild Wars 2, and maybe purchase Guild Wars and all its expansions (Factions, Nighfall and Eye Of The North, all 3 come in a pack and are fairly cheap by now) and start to grind your eyes out to get the content needed to fill your Hall Of Monuments (yeah im a big fan of GW) so you can have the initial goodies that ArenaNet will throw at us at the jumpstart of the greatest game since Vanilla WoW....
....oh yeah and WoW (World of Warcraft)..well...sorry..you are 6 years too late...
what if his username really is Deleted User and hes just trollin us.
im a noob to and i'm planning on trying out star wars. even my bro think its cool and i don't think hes played an mmorpg before, or an rpg for that matter.
Play free mmorpg's until Guild Wars 2 is released.
GW2 should be the most advanced and up to date mmorpg.
But it is not out yet, so I would just try a few free mmorpg's to pass the time.
I'm thinking GW2. I like the dynamic events, and the leveling system is great. No level scale, genius. Plus sidekicking was a great idea as well.
Thanks for all the help everyone. I hope to quest with you all in GW2! And PM me if you plan on getting it so I'll have some friends!
I been playing mmo's past 14 years now i seen many games that wasnt so great (WoW included), heres what i would say to you the best game IMO (IN my Opinion) ios Rohan Blood fued and the 2nd one is Dekaron, wtf i'll just give you afew on a list.
Rohan blood fued.
Dekaron.
Dragon Nest
Ripplez
Cabal Online.
Flyff.
IN no Order, IMO Rohan is my number one TOP game on my top 5 mmo list but let it be known the first game i ever played was Runescape..which sucks btw but back in the day it was awesome but now blah.
if you want newer games you ight like scarlet legacy, it's not bad of a game if i say so myself anyways there's the list for you if you wanna look into em.
If you are good at FPS than you should try what I consider to be the most epic MMORPG because it can give me an adrenaline rush at times unlike other games. Its called Darkfall.

The build the camera-man is using has much less grind than using magic and does pretty well as you can see.
