Becomes so tough to chose a first profession now. I always like melee professions and the idea of an Asuran Warrior that hammers other people's kneecaps is still my number one I think. It just looks so funny the way they look as if they are about to lose their balance when swinging a hammer in combat . But I really like the idea of Mesmer and Engineer too.
Hello Mesmer, welcome to the only class in GW2 I'll probably never play.
Then again, I didn't like the Mesmer in GW1 and I really don't like that whole Renn. European theatre emo-kid "mask with a long nose" crap.
Really? You don't like the Renaissance!? Don't let the Hello Kitty / Lady Gaga color mashup fool you - That style is legit and timeless.
I wonder what a Mesmer will be able to do with Greatswords. Will it play like a Battle Mage? A melee caster? What an intriguing idea. I wonder if the attacks will be channeled or instant!

Dominate and decapitate, that how these great sword weilding mesmers ough to work!
Sadly the trailer doesn't give me much hope for the AI on mobs. "Someone is shooting the fuck out of my ass. I should turn around.... nahhh.... I'll just keep walking...."
or
"Hey a giant ring of magic... I should walk into that rather then stop or go around.."
It's neat but the AI looks about a 1980s pre-A* pathing as it gets. No threat assessment, no GTAOE awareness. Against AI's it looks good.. players... ummm... yeah....

As should've been obvious, those are all scripted and choreographed skill demonstrations, they have absolutely nothing to do with how the actual game AI will work.
I was disappointed about having to choose either necro or elementalist as the only casters, but not anymore! Asura Mesmer is my favorite race/class combo as of yet.
What a copy of Psionist from Allods! Even the colors are the same! lol...
Or maybe you could of did some research and saw that GW1 had the Mesmer and that color scheme back in April 2005 when it released! Since you didn’t I must ask; how can a game that was released in 2010 Allods be the original GW2 is coping from when it was released almost 5 years after GW1? Ah but that is right it is easier to make comments without any backing and put LOL after it then to actually do some research!
After all who looks to have a clever conversation on the internet AKA the bathroom wall of society! For a good time Call Allod comments without any backing at 1800iamsmatz! jusk joking LOL!

If you talk about Allods Online, you should check the release date of GW1 first.
At best you can say that the mesmers from GW and the psionicists from Allods Online (and the psionicists from Vanguard:SoH) all draw their basic idea from the older D&D psionics.
That is, of course, if you ignore the even older tradition of tricksters and different magical abilites featured in folk tales.
I only played the original GW1 so cant comment on how the game changed later...but to say the mesmer had no offensive power just wasnt true from GW1. One of the best skills I loved to use in pvp was the casting interupt. It did significant dmg to an oppenent if you managed to interupt them casting a spell. I killed many a caster as a mesmer using the interupt and one or two other symbiotic skills. I also did just find in the pve portion although my memory of all of that is a bit hazy now as it has been so long since I played. Not having an offensive ability was never an issue for me though.
But to GW2 - I love the look and feel of the mesmer and it appears to be everything I would have hoped it would be. Only time will tell though once we actually get our hands on this game to see what it actually plays like.

Surprised I didn't see anything about this yet mentioned by anyone. Pretty big news.

My guess was right. I knew last class would be mesmer.
I will stick to thief though for dual weilding.
and next week we will see a new and improved THIEF in an official blog. looking forward to this as the thief isnt one of my preferred class but im hoping that this will amke me change my mind
The mesmer introduces a new condition to our set called confusion. An enemy with confusion on them takes damage each time they activate a skill. This condition stacks in intensity, so the more confusion an enemy has, the greater the damage.

Awesome, my favorite class.
If you don't like a game don't play it, and quit running to MMORPG.com to trash it.

I am an altoholic, so i will play one and play pretty much every single class :-p
And yes purple is not a copy of any single game, its been a common color for illusion/mind powers for quite awhile.....
