new mmorpgs and loot?

TRepTRep Member Posts: 18

First I would like to say this is NOT an attempt to revive the creature loot v. player crafted equipment debate.

I AM wondering if anyone has seen any good games in development wich will favor finding cool, usable equipment over buying player crafted?  My favorite part of AC1 and diablo 1 & 2 was looting corpses on the off chance that I might actually find that piece of uber loot.  It seems like  most games being made now favor a complicated crafting system to obtain the best stuff in the game.

    EQ2??

I will, of course, be trying EQ2 when it comes out -- but EQ has its own problems.  I was really looking for games that I haven't heard of, or for information that I may have missed on the games list of this site (I have read every description on that list).

Well problem is many of the new games want a player driven economy based on crafting .

A lot of games try and get the balance of crafting and lootable items but seems to not fair well.

AC2 tried it and failed miserably.

So SWG  for one decided to go with no loot and mainly crafting .

It resulted in one of the best player driven economy and crafting in MMORPGs but a real boring monster encounter because there is nothing but experience to look forward too.

Personally I would like a good high end mob encounter with high risk and high reward pretty much like EQ but seems this idea is fading away.

Horizons i heard  has gone more towards crafting items and less loot too.

If you find such a game post it I would be happy to try it myself  atm I only know of EQ2.

Well it seem devs are tring to find consistent solutions for fair group loot distribution or more correctly said the illusion of that.

These solutions are atm intertwining with other popular gamedynamics (e.g. player generated thingies - crfating) in the search to satisfy most players tastes where this will end noone knows atm but it seems most believe to solve this by detaching the loot exp. to the moment of crafting thus blurring the hard lines of faires a bit.

I wish them luck and hope they find a fair and rewarding-monster-loot-fun system.

    [Edited for multiple typo's]

Dang, I miss Diablo/AC1 style games where every monster is like a lottery ticket that has the chance of scoring big.  I know there are others who feel the same way, and wish some developer somewhere would go back to dropped loot.

The problem is I know it will take 40+ hrs of play to level and get the next boost to my kill-power -- I dont have that kind of patience.  When monsters drop good loot I just cant help but think 'the next one is sure to drop something good' ...it kept me playing AC1 for almost 2 years.

Horizens talks about socketed weapons, has anyone heard if runes for those sockets will drop from critters?

my view is that in horizons the monsters will drop items that can be put into sockets.....i think this is a great balance...you get players to make items and loot to power it up.....i great balanced economy
