Join us in this week's Star Wars: The Old Republic column as we discuss our experiences with the game so far and its long-awaited launch.
So far, all things considered, I’d say things have been going fairly smoothly. While Early Game Access kicked off with a lot of frustration as many pre-order customers weren’t too happy about the staggered invite system BioWare decided to go with, you’d be hard pressed to say things went poorly. Server stability has been great, server lag, at least for me, has been a complete non-issue, and the game is running just fine. Sure, the queues are long on many servers (though they have been improving), but these are just typical launch woes for a popular game. Of course, there are still some issues. Some users are experiencing technical issues stopping them from connecting or staying connected to the game, there were a number of reports of users receiving everything but their game codes in their Collector’s Edition boxes (trololol?), and even speculation that some users were exploiting their way to high-level.

I've spent the week planning out my "family" in anticipation of discovering the Legacy system. I've started my main twice and am thinking of deleting my level 11 trooper and starting him over just because I can. I'm currently trying to decide if my main has any other siblings out there. Mom was a sex slave to an IA, so it's possible.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil
Crew skills to me is a slippery lope. The live stream I watched made it seem like a lobby based game. The guy never left his ship and all he did was send out companions to craft and queue for war fronts. It just seems to re enforce the dead world concept where you honestly never have a reason to go back. The game will need a "cataclysm" to make them viable again. It is the same mistake Blizzard made honestly.
You could do that... but its no different than sitting in a major city or in your house in another game and doing the same thing.
The main city (hub) is a space station so sitting in your space ship seems totally plausible in terms rp. Plus my hot girl buddy is in the space ship with me and my only competition are droids. If my character had any brains he'd just stay in there.
"This will be a bad day long remembered. It has seen the end of INNOVATION, it will soon see the end of the Sandbox"
I started with a Jedi Consular which I've made a Jedi Shadow now and its good fun. Early acces was pretty good although I've spend quite some time in queue's... I've seem to be hitting a bug too when NPC's suddenly vanished and popped up again when I stood almost inside them xD
I see myself playing for many months to come. Now they better be working on additional content for it doesn't feel as complete as it could be. Nevertheless, thanks BioWare, great game
I dunno, I think the failure of SWG was the end of the "big name" sandbox.
Que times getting better? ARE YOU BLIND?
EA/Bioware deleting every forum thread on the subject and putting it into an 'official thread' to lessen the visibility and 'news sites' saying everything is smooth as silk is just flat out lying to protect the image of this game that apparently ranks right up there with the 'banks that are too big to fail'
The que times and their complete ineptness at fixing this issue (or communicating about it) is something that us really playing (err waiting to play) already know about and real word of mouth is going to crack this wall of lies the 'industry' and EA try to paint on it.
Played: Asheron's Call(still the best fantasy MMO!), EQ1, EQ2, Vanguard, DAoC, Horizons, City of Heroes/Villians, WoW (crap), LOTORO, D&D Online, Eve, Anarchy Online, and still playing SWG daily.
btw, the 'official thread' is at over 500 pages right now and has been recreated 3 times already since Friday.... this being the second official thread after the first one did the same thing. Its not a small problem and no it's not 'people aren't used to ques' it's 3-4 hour long ques, ques on EVERY east coast server by 9:30 their time, and only a dozen or so west coast servers with no que at all yet.
SW:TOR launch day is here, but you still are waiting for a while to play!

I dont think SWG failed it was those who ran it who failed the game and turned it into something it did not start out to be.
I do agree about out-leveling your own content. But it is important to note that the only true quest-line is your class quest-line, which if you follow just that "important" quest-line you will probably catch up level-wise... But on the other hand my OCD does not allow me to skip all the other quests I have... the part of me that is too busy picking flowers in Skyrim to go slay dragons.

Personally I think this is a great developement, something games have needed. You don't HAVE To do all of the quests! There are enough quests that you really can choose whether or not to do them. I think they should take it even further, with even more quests, which would improve the experience while levelling alts.
Ya, couldnt possibly be that like any sane forum user they dont want 900 topics on the EXACT SAME THING on the front page, but no your right its a big conspiracy to try and cover it up.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
SWG was actually a fun game before it went "WoW" back in 2006.
Hurray ToR launch! *Goes back to playing Skyrim*
'Fun' and 'well made' are not synonymous. I know.....I still play Master of Orion 3.....
If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
So true. I haven't even met Esbarnd(sp?) in Riften yet.. I've restarted my character so many times... Once on purpose, the other because I think I was too high level for the main story from all the smithing/alchemy/enchanting and side quests I did, so zones were incredibly hard and I was chugging healing potions faster than I could get them.
Oh.. And SW:TOR.. Good luck.
How exacty am I supposed to buy this game (digital copy) ? On EA Origin store it is sold out. Strange for downloadable game. I already have the game from beta, all I need is to buy code to activate it. Thanx for any help.
Lol wait you can run out of digital copies? XD
Maybe they only anticipated a limited number of digital sales . According to massively.com there were aprox 1.5 million people playing in early access alone . Its probably been more successful than Bioware had anticipated . (que for someone to say that thier will be huge drops in the second month Blah blah blah ) .
Agreed. I would say there are a lot of folks d/loading the game and I would think there is a limit to how many at once can d/load the game. Folks will get their turn.
Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.

Well, I already downloaded game during beta. I just want to play.
They are limiting the codes they sell per day i think. SO that they do not have queues of days:P
They must have a certain number of servers they are willing to open, and are not going to go over that unless they absolutely have to, so populations do not crash later.
Anyhow , just try again tomorrow. I am sure they will have more codes soon.
I want to know what the que "problem" is? There were over 20 "light" servers 20 minutes ago. There are plenty of servers with no que.
Edit actually, there are currently 43 "light servers" and 39 that have a que. So there are more light servers than those that have a que. The problem is people not the game.
It's the middle of the work day... tonight it will be bad.
