^ Havent they been working on new AI since launch? :p hopefully they get it working properly soon!

Mortal Online would be very awesome if say it had the PvE and Dungeons of Vanguard! and they get rid of all the bugs.

Oh well, ill keep subbing for awhile more, since i really like the idea of the game and there really isnt anyone else trying to make anything similar. Hopefully it gets "launch" ready and people will start playing it so they get more funding.

This is how bad that website is.  I just saw this in the replies to the poll.

    1. A sandbox poll without UO on it is derp!

      • There was an “other” category. It got 20 votes. Having Ultima Online as a option wouldn’t have made a difference. Keep in mind this was a vote for best sandbox of 2011, not best sandbox of 1998.

        • Even though UO for sure has alot more sandbox features then most here. It´s still outdated in graphics etc. And I´m sure, just as admin says, there wouldn´t make a difference if it was up as a alternative.

    2. Well MO was not released in 2011 neither was EVE, DF, or a lot of the choices so what is your pioint in saying it was a Poll for 2011??

And yes it would of made a difference. Put a poll up again with only MO and UO which game is better and I bet you it MO will lose very badly.

  • darthturtle1darthturtle1 Member Posts: 208

I guess the admin did not know most of the choices on the list were not released in 2011.

How can an MMORPG which has around 3000 subs be best at anything?

Pathetic hypocrisy at it's best. He can't justify leaving UO out no matter what. Several games on that list were not released in 2011, which automatically makes it a "Best sandboxes still active in 2011", which UO certainly qualify for.

  • username509username509 Member CommonPosts: 635

It's a vote for 2011 Sandbox of the Year.  Not best new sandbox of 2011.  None of the games on the list were released in 2011.

Maybe if Trammel was never released it would still be considered a decent sandbox, but considering the "other" category had 20 votes out of almost 2000 I don't think Ultima Online really had a chance.

Yea exactly. That's why UO should be there, not an arguement against it. Did you think this would work?

Thankyou for making the case for me.  Since it was best sandbox UO should of been on the list.  "Other" is not UO if UO were on the list it would of beat MO soundly.

Trammel has nothing to do with anything.  Trammel is in the game and it still has a couple hundred thousand subs.  Hell of a lot more subs than MO's maybe 2-4k and losing more by the minute with the housing scandal and players realizing TC was utter shit like every MO patch.

Speaking of subs are you going to show some proof to the ludicris statement that MO has 20k subs?

The reason I quoted what was said on the website is, the Admin must of not realized most of the poll choices were not released in 2011 and one of them is not even a current live game.  His argument that it is a best of 2011 and not 1998 is quite frankly stupid at best.

Love how it lists Dawntide as an upcoming mmorpg when it's already got more working features than MO will ever have. The site is such a joke.

Also how can you win as "best fantasy sandbox of the year" when the poll was about the "best sandbox of the year"? That's like organizing a 100-meters-race and rewarding the second best for "wearing the best clothes".

It is a JOKE. Only StarVault could pull off something so shit. Also, a short google research shows that the site has only ever been posted on mmorpg.com before it reached the forums of the other gaming communities. If certain people didn't post it here, several times, nobody would know about it. This is stealth advertisement, and it's even pretty shit at that.

So how did you find out about sandboxer.org, username509?

I'm absolutely floored that people are taking this site seriously. It was registered in OCTOBER OF 2011.

I don't  understand how people don't realize very quickly that this is part of MO's "Viral Marketing" campaign. It's pathetic, and shows how low that SV has to stoop to try to get any positive press for their piece of garbage game.

That's like saying that The Burbs with Tom Hanks was the best movie ever made in history cause I asked 15 of my friends and they sad so. This site (below), mostly always brought up by the same people (hmmmm) is a joke:

15 pages views a day.... I would like to see something from a credible source. Or at least one that more then 3 people have heard of... lol

Sad :( SV goes through the trouble of setting up this publicity stunt and still lost to EvE and almost lost to DFO. Good thing UO wasn't listed as this could have been even more embarissing for MO.

I must be at least 3 of those 15 daily visits.  The Mortal Online haters on this forum must constitute the other 12.   How Eve Online got 827 votes I'll never know.

That is easy.  EVE is a vastly superior game than MO.  Are you not going to answer the question I have asked 2 times now.  Here I will ask it one more time.

Can you show any evidence to you saying that MO has 20k subscribers??  I find that hard to believe and so does the quarterly financials.

    Here we go again.

Get your facts straight. Trammel (UO: Renaissance) increased UO subscription base from around 130k subs to around 250k subs in less than 1.5 years. It kept at about 225k through the next two expansions (Third Dawn and Lord Blackthorn's Revenge), until starting to plummet at 2003 when Age of Shadows hit and the game suddenly become a gear centric PvE race.

According to the last released data from 2007, UO had around 100k subs. I would wager it has significantly less today. Most of the shards are ghost towns.

All Trammel did was give players the freedom of choice when it came to PvP and take away the helpless cattle from the hands of griefers. It was the best expansion for UO ever.

UO should have been included in the poll, certainly. That being said, if there was a groundswell of support for UO, the "other" option was there.

Easily. Only 2 games on the poll had a significantly larger population -- EVE (which won) and SWG (the fact that it was in the process of shutting down makes it a hard vote for "sandbox of the year")

The site is such a joke.   Well, Dawntide lists itself as being in development. In fact they've taken down their beta server for a revamp.  http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/12/20/dawntide-temporarily-closes-beta-server/

Also how can you win as "best fantasy sandbox of the year" when the poll was about the "best sandbox of the year"? That's like organizing a 100-meters-race and rewarding the second best for "wearing the best clothes". Fair enough, but it is common for competitions to have divisions based on age,sex etc. Fantasy and Sci-fi are distinct genres and not amade up division like "wearing the best clothes". While it is less meaningful to win a division than the overall contest, it isn't meaningless.

@Darthturtle & Tom Gore:  At last count, UO had about 100,000 subscriptions http://users.telenet.be/mmodata/Charts/Subs-2.png  UO's population may have been growing after Felluca, but that is arguably due to a general increasing availability of internet access and specifically UO expanding into new markets (1999 release in korea and japan, 2000 release in Australia)  Clearly, many people see Trammel and 2000 as a turning point for UO. Since 2000 also saw the departure of Richard Garriot (creater), Starr Long (producer) and Raph Koster (lead developer), it's hard to argue that 2000 was not  a major shift in direction. Trammel may get an unfair share of the criticis, but it was part of the shift from player conflict to "gear-centric PVE race"

You would know, if you took time to actually read the thread. As I stated at the very start, the EvE got those votes from one time influx of EvE fans when the said poll was linked in several of their communities.

Except... those "divisions" are usually announced prior to the competition and not made up afterwards.  Afterall, while everyone may have felt EvE was the best Sandbox, many of them may have felt that DF was actually the best FANTASY sandbox, but voted for EvE as the poll was not about fantasy sandboxes...

You typically don't make up divisions AFTER a poll.  That would be like MMORPG having their "Best of 2011" polls... well, just having one poll for best MMO of 2011 and then after the poll handing our rewards to "Best New MMO 2011" based on which new MMO placed higher.

Since of course, during the "sandboxer" poll other games were added (and you couldn't change your vote) it's really silly. The site is created by an MO fan who originally tried to hide that fact by saying he visited the MO irc ONCE to spam his site but wasn't a player.  Now of course we know (from his subsequent admission) he is one of the handful of regular players left.  More than half of the game specific "news" article on the site are MO related... How many DF articles have there been?  How many EvE articles?    No, it's obvious that the site is simply a MO fansite, created by a fan (with or without support from SV). So congrats on placing SECOND in a contest on your own fansite...

Exactly the site is a joke.  EVE had a major expansion and all they did was this about it.

    http://sandboxer.org/?p=249

But they have whole articles because a rumored fix patch might happen in MO.

Check out the new box version of Eve Online!

Seriously I hope this site never reports on Eve Online again.  The games dull.  I can look over spreadsheets all day at work.  When I get home I want to bash some things with a polearm.
