I just read intreview with life team. I'm afraid what they'll do to elementalist, in particular how they'll end up ruining them in PVE because of PVP. Its what always happens. "Invoke Lightning" is the best air spell and they're threatning to ruin it. John Stumme stop tinkering with things that are not broken.

Since the game was originally pvp as well as pve (erm "guild wars") I think they have a handle on how to deal with both parts.

The game was balanced better for PVE when they were mostly trying to balance skills for PVP than after they decided to split skills and have PVE-only versions.
Glyph of renewal -> Meteor Shower, Arcane Echo -> Meteor Shower -> Meteor Shower.
Honestly Ele's need this change, their damage output was so low compared to Necro's, Mesmers, and Rits. Now Earth and Water magic will be more viable. Overall the change opens up so many new options for Elementalists, such as starburst, shatterstone.
Try playing a class that has 0 unconditional AoE damage, and one super conditional AoE skill.
These changes were made entirely for PvE, as the issue was the Elementalists lack of output in hardmodes outside of being a bonder.
No, they don't have a handle on it. IF they would make PVP versions and PVE versions that would be good, but they won't they'll just change the skill to make it less usefull in PVE because they want it less useful in PVP.
They're apparently changing Invoke Lighning from causing exhaustion only if you're not enchanted to ALWAYS causing exhauation. Now you tell me how that improves the spell for PVE? It doesn't it punishes PVErrs for PVPers over uses of the skill.
Try E/P conjur lightning with Ride the Lightning, especially the new Ride the Lightning.

Yeah I want to put myself in melee range. That makes perfect sense for a light armor, low health character. GW1 eles are not GW2 eles.
I feel really for sorry for Elementalists. The other casters enjoy lower resistance and more flexibility in terms of builds. I am not really sure what role the Elementalists are intended to fulfill anymore. I only hope their damage and utility can be improved, but ArenaNet has always been nerf happy.
I really only use mine for farming feathers in Kryta province, or Veattr farming. I have a couple reallly good builds for them, but other than that, I don't really use my ele.

I trudged through EoTN on my ele, and nearly deleted him after that campaign. The feel of the profession is really an anomaly, I don't know what they're aiming for. Personally, I enjoy Ritualist, Mesmer and Dervish the most. I tried farming, but never really acquired the taste for doing so.
Its worse than I thought, they not only screwed up my ele but they nerfed signet of sprits, for a second time, messing up rits. They may as well remove that skill's elite status. Four other rit spells had damaged reduced as well. How the hell is making professions worse an improvement?
For a second I thought this was a GW 2 thread. I was like OMG WTF!!!??? Guess I can sigh in relief now. /sigh
