EVE Online: War Rages On

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The War in the North is still raging strong in EVE Online, but that doesn't mean much is really happening.  Find out the state of affairs in this week's One Jump Home."

And so it does. Two weeks ago I reported on the initial call to arms that the Clusterf*ck Coalition had raised and the general order that the invasion of the regions known as Branch and Vale of the Silent would commence. Two weeks later, and my predictive musings have come true and the dead lay in their droves on the battlefield of Branch. Almost all of them belonging to WhiteNoiseDOT, former owners of the aforementioned region, victims of extreme unrelenting violence and conquest.

It is just that intense... I would know first hand from a 21 day trial + a donated plex to me... A proud former member of the 4th Imperial Expedition... Until my plex ran out. I don't blame the price, this price is what makes it such a great game. <3 CCP Games.

Hehe and EvE is intense for those engaged in deep PvP engagement. CCP just needs to boost hisec PvE content so they can grab some newcomers to help fill the voids.

Nice write up! I like how it describes a longterm, intense event in EVE :)

It's a good read - I can find out what's going on while I take a break from the game. I think the style could be further improved by telling us about the personalities and characters involved. This would make it a brilliant read and it would help me to decide which side to support.

It's a story like this that makes me want to play again. I used to fly with NCDOT till the Goons kicked us out. We put up a fight though, even got the local pirates involved to keep the enemy fleet occupied while our transports made their getaway, managed to take out caps along the way. Love to return to assist RaidenDOT, maybe another day if I ever get bored of SWTOR.

No you're definitely not hiding your bias. It's blatantly obvious.

But that's the heart of EVE. The wars are not fought just within the game. Propaganda like this on a major MMO site proves that very well.

Why is this trash talk under "News"?

You zerg a lesser force with numbers as opposed to  skill and come here to gloat? If i give you a cookie and some milk will you go to bed on time? Dont you have a big day at elementary school tommorrow?

lol someone's mad, or havent grasped the concept of War in Life....

The bigger forces always and will always use their Full might to crush their enemies, you dont win Countries by being a sweetheart and play it fair givng fair fights to your opponents...

you want to get in, destroy them ,sap their moral , make them flee... So that you can place a Foothold on that land and conquer it.

Its annoying to see people cry about zergs , you'd preffer 2vs2 Arena Ship Fights to know who wins the country.... -_-  ...  Dont awnser that actually

Yes, but WHY are so many people coming together to create this larger force, and HOW are they being kept together?

Do the FCs have great personalities etc? This is the sort of crucial information that's missing from this article.

This article is NOT great propaganda - why on earth would I want to join a faceless mass of players?

Havent played eve for years so, no, im not mad.

This garbage doesnt belong in news for one. Secondly i would prefer those skillness noobs that feel the need to zerg to keep quiet, not brag like they did something worthy of attention.

You want to talk smack like it means something choose the proper venue and at least have the dignity to base it off skill, not numbers.

I actually dont beleive I'm about to say this, but if they dumbed down the training and skills a bit, they would pull in a lot more customers, with all the friends I have tried to pull into the game, the first thing almost out of every one of their mouths was how to I spec this to be a tank, or for pve or pvp, and the truth is that its not something you can easily answer.

Most mmo gamers these days like things to be a little bit clearer in terms of roles, and I think that CCP could do some work in this area, either by dumbing the skill tree's down a bit, or by creating some presets, like a basic pvp , pve , minin , hauling build or builds, and then having a one click button to train all the skills in sequence for that basic build, the game would then go through each skill training in sequence, and informing the player each time a new skill starts and explaining to the player why its an important skill.

With a system like that, nothing is lost from the game, its still just as complex as it was before the advanced players can still do things their own way, but new players are not hit with this wall of raw data, they have an easy click&learn way to get their foot into pvp or pve etc.

    you mean learning skills?

Hate to tell you but they completly removed them some 2 years ago.  Everyone now has the equivelent to almost max learning skills

And new players get double training time up to the first 3 mil sp, or something.

everytime i read one of these articles i'm one little step closer to a 6 month long spree of resubbing to eve and ignoring every other game for god knows how long.

it's hard to pull yourself completely away (even for me, who was very angry at the way ccp handled cap ships).  the hallmark of a great game; you never completely finish playing it (the same holds true with magic: the gathering, i dont know how many times i've said 'ive gone to my last MTG tournament' only to go to one next week)

I don't agree with you! A lot of the fun of Eve Online is using EFIT to experiment with setups outside of the game.

I've also had a lot of fun reading forum threads to find the most optimum setup.

Also, when you get really seriously into Eve, 2 things happen:

    1) The FC often tells you how to fit your ship.

    2) You instinctively know after a while how to fit your ship for the task - and how to adjust your setup depending on how comfortable you feel with your current FC!

They are being kept together because goons figured out that the carrot is better than the stick, I have to admit viewing this from a 3rd party is interesting and scary. That they could mass so many mindless lemmings and direct them at some external "thing" to destroy and have those masses form up so consistently, day after day.

Even coming back 2 or 3 times after being destroyed over an over again. Despite facing higher skilled opponents they managed to wear them down with persistence. Where most other forces would have taken a morale hit after losing so many ships, these guys just keep coming back until you lose.

Even with the obvious bias he makes a fair point, the clusterf*ck under the direction of goons may be the most effective military fighting force in the game.

Also Mostly Useless is dead dude, most of your guys are now in this clusterf*ck.

They brag because they are going up against people with more skills than them and are winning. Even alliances full of highly skilled pilots will run into a wall against numbers like these. Maybe a zerg rush of relatively newbie pilots kicking over the established order in 0.0, and kicking over older players is a bit newsworthy. People are always complaining how newer players don't stand a chance so this is for those people.

Don't know if you played the same EVE I'm playing but smacking talking, propaganda and smugness is part of the gameplay.

Nor should it. There are plenty of dumb games out there. Let him play SWTOR. Why does every game have to be the same? If it's too complicated for someone, fine, the don't have to play it.
