What's your budget, where are you buying, and what else is in the rig?

  • FugglyFuggly Member Posts: 141

What you have listed will run the games u listed on high, processor is not a big concern for gamers, your graphics card is. Even a low end 1Gb graphics card will run those games on high. You power supply is certainly large enough and your memory is sufficient. Not bad for a first rig.

ok everything looks fine at first glance but let me give you pointers

you will need a proc that can do HT

most will say no but they are wrong, lets say in a year g+hangout is your new chatroom for your buddy (10 people on the same screen ?hell now a second screen make sense

sadly in this idea there is a flaw,i5 2500k doesnt have ht,some will say but this was tested and 2500k & 2600k are almost =and they are right to a point:

in some situation tho,if you are like the emerginf majority ,in a year you will want to play swtor, stream it to the comunity, encode your success to upload it at 1080p24 on youtube all this while being with your friend on g+hangout shinny 10 view and of caurse your favorite back ground noise, the game itself doesnt take lot of power but almost everything related to multimedia will benefit from ht

and here is where ht shine,if you disable core parking and HYPERTHREADING IS ON ,you will outperform a 2500k by 40 %

    in ht

some people dismiss this but trust me ht will be required in your futur you just dont know it yet ,so get the 2600k and be done for years .sorry for long post but a lot of people i know have the 2600k and they compare it to a 2500k and they re like wtf it is the same!i ask did you disable core parking,is ht enabled?heu i dont know?then core parking is enabled and sadly coreparking and ht tend to ignore each other!wich make you lose 40% in media stuff , i cant name what make use of ht but a lot of it do.

40% more power for media stuff doesnt sound like a lot but it is often the difference between smooth gaming and lower cpu % use and a processor that would need 2 cpu to do the job!aside from this!everything looks fine

If you just wanna play the game on high graphics, your processor wont matter much, your graphics card will. Although a better CPU never hurts for other things.

Please ignore drbaltazar and Fuggly. It's quite clear they both went full retard.

for gpu take the highest (or almost )single slot single card gpu(5990 is a single slot dual gpu,5770 is a single slot single gpu)also make sure your gpu is at least 256 bit data path wide,a 5770 isnt 256 bit it is 128 bit datapath wide

at the top end of single card single gpu most will be fairly close to each other (ok maybe the new 7970 is better not sure but things evolve too often i would stick to 2011 card.price wise and shop around same card might be 100$ more on x site then on xxx dsite (an exemple)

That comes to $1367 from their Z68 configurator.

    http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/CyberPower_Z68_Configurator/

Do note that you're probably paying around $200 more than it would cost to build something comparable yourself.

They say you need a 700 W power supply for that system, but that's ridiculous.  A good quality 650 W power supply is already overkill for a system that will never pull 400 W from it.  The 700 W requirement is in case you want to buy a 700 W power supply from them that will fry if you tried to pull 500 W from it.  But a Corsair TX V2 series power supply is pretty good.

If you care about fast OS/game/zone loading times I'd recommend going with an SSD rather than an HDD.  Personally, I'd recommend the Samsung 830 SSD.  Extremely fast and stable.  Stay away from the OCZ Vertex 3 as they're notorious for causing BSODs.  Cheers and g/l!

  • FugglyFuggly Member Posts: 141

SSD's are also extremely expensive for very little storage. If you have money to blow, go for it, they are very fast and very reliable as they have no mechanical moving parts. Good luck on the build brotha!

Processor dependence varies wildly from one game to the next.  A processor bottleneck is particularly nasty, as if a processor won't let you run a game on high settings, then it probably won't let you run it on low settings, either.  Video card bottlenecks can often be worked around by lowering settings.

A low end 1 GB card will not run many games on high settings.  The GPU matters, too.

"you will need a proc that can do HT"

When there's a processor bottleneck, it's usually in part because a game doesn't scale well to that many processor cores.  Adding hyperthreading won't help a bit if it already can't use as many real, physical cores as you have.

"and here is where ht shine,if you disable core parking and HYPERTHREADING IS ON ,you will outperform a 2500k by 40 %"

Only in programs that will scale very well to at least eight cores, and even then, it usually won't be as big as 40%.  No games will see that big of a gap.

"5990 is a single slot dual gpu,5770 is a single slot single gpu"

There is no 5990.  The 5770 is discontinued (or rather, rebranded as 6770), but even before that, most of them used dual slot coolers.

"Guess meh 17 years of buildin pc's is no match for the experience of a forum warrior."

Most people who pick parts don't know what they're doing very well, and repetition doesn't necessarily teach them.  Or you.

"guess meh good ol am64cpu with 4Gb of ram isnt runnin GW on high graphics."

You know what else runs Guild Wars on max settings?  My netbook.  It's not a demanding game.

I actually read this link. And a few others pertaining to core parking

You know what is funny about it? They could only reproduce the problem in WinRaR.

Most people don't RAR and un-RAR files for fun.

I haven't seen a single case of a video game being affected by it with before/after numbers to prove it. I've seen a few posts where people say "Yeah, I disabled it, and it works great" - which may or may not be circumstantial, but no legitimate reviewer comes out and says it's a problem.

Now maybe I just didn't poke around hard enough, but I don't see any reason why a gaming machine needs HT in the first place, let alone needs to get it and then disable core parking.
