I loved my turtle mount in wow. I remember buying the ccg to see what it was like and finding the card inside with a code for the turtle. It was so slow but i loved riding it whenever I was in Iron forge.
The Transport Skiff was so awesome. Loved the tamed mounts too. What a shame...

I don't know if it counts, but Perfect World Internation has the ability for players to carry other players. That way you can have somoene else be your mount!
This has to be a joke. No Nightmare from UO? You could dismount it and have it kill things for you! The nightmare was a mount and a weapon. I miss that game!
Agree 100% Nightmares from UO have the be the #1 mount for me. I STILL have the same nightmare years later. How often do you guys change mounts in your mmo? Sorry, but my nm had character and a history, and more pvp kills than most griefers. Almost makes me want to resub just to say hi to him.
Galaxy Dropship... I had forgotten what a godamn kickass feeling that was, dropping a full combat squad right in the lap of the enemy. A good pilot, a few combat planes on the side... Amazing fun! Can't wait to do that again ( I was never the good pilot. I was the really good MAX unit.)
INCOMING MAX UNIT!!!
He's Rick James, bitch!
Man. I can't wait for Planetside 2. GOTR should be doing more crazy stuff with Vanu there.
As for this article... AGREED! The Galaxy was an amazing ship, and having entire squads drop over the enemy was and still is one of the most rewarding experiences an MMO can pull.
Galaxy Gunships are also amazing fun, but not as much as the normal Galaxy.
MMO's played: Ragnarok Online (For years), WoW (for a few weeks only), Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Eve, Allods, Shattered Galaxy, 9 Dragons, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Star Trek Online (Got someone ELSE to pay for it), Champions Online (Someone else paid), Dofus, Dragonica, LOTRO, DDO and more... A LOT more. I've played good AND bad. The bad didn't last long. :P
SWG had an entire taming system that was pretty awesome, even going as far as raising them if you were the right profession, from the land speeders and of course that skiff were always awesome aswell. That games mount system was my favorite
I know this is so non-gamer, but I really love the plain old horses--live ones--in Rift. I like the way they sound when you ride em too. I know it's just me--but sometimes classic is good.

Almost forgot : About every POB starship (multipassenger starship) in SWG is awesome. I wonder when we will have cool grouptransport like this again.
Those could be used in spacecombat with interior to walk around in. Turrets that could be manned for the groupmembers to help in spacecombat. Especially the gunboats they added later on were awesome.
Makes me wanna come back to rift :O. Totally pretty.
I'm torn between a couple of mounts from Rift...So I got them all hehe. I like the Murdantix too, but I find myself riding around on my Swift Armored Ash Strider...it took forever to get...stupid Keepers lol.

Meh I remember the super long grind to get that Vanguard wolf mount. took weeks to solo it lol
the $5m Yalmaha in AO. I still remember that new yalm smell when i just got it so many years ago...
As far as silly mounts go, i gotta admit that the giant flying sabretooth squirel (treeglider) in EQ2 is pretty awesome.

Guild Wars' map travel system makes the entire concept of mounts as they are in most MMORPGs completely obsolete.

The Fenrir from Lineage 2
Well i tought mount were animals, now if you include ships, i guess my top pick would be the Yalmaha from Anarchy Online.
I recently acquired this in Rift, I kinda like it
I don't know about the best mount or anything but one of the coolest things involving mounts was the actual mounting animation for the mammoth in AoC.
I summarily exclude anything not aquired through gameplay from achieving the rank of "awesome" in my mind.

I second this one. I loved flying those things, oh the antics.

Conversely, just having mounts as a speed buff and status symbol is pretty poor as well.
- Rancor/Bantha mount in SWG (Bantha mount is just so star warsy)
- BARC Command vehicle in SWG (pure awesomeness)
- Interceptor Speedster in Fallen Earth
Rest is meh Not really interested in pink tigers or ghost/flaming horses.

The Crocnard is cool too, i mean it's a croc +1
How bout LOTRO?
Bard buff EQ! now that is a mount both for bard and group. Also bards killed a lot of group members because of lag that was fun when jumping dunes!
