Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy XIV world will be merging on March 27th. The server count will go from the current eighteen to ten. All players will be required to choose which server they would like to live once the merger is complete.
From March 1st through March 19th, players will choose which server to have their characters reassigned. According to the dev team, the merger is "intended to improve the player experience during the period up to the launch of FFXIV Version 2.0."

Seriously, what did they expect? Version 2.0 still a year away, but reinstating subscription fees to let people pay for them fixing the game further to an actual release version? (v.2.0)
They should have waited til Version 2.0, relaunch the game and THEN reinstate subscription fees.
Sorry, but SE makes a bucketload of money as Games Publisher alone already. They have plenty of cash! So could have easily waited till version 2.0 to reinstating the subscription fee.
I look forward to trying FF14 again when 2.0 hits and hope this helps the current population in the meantime.
I'm shocked... /s
I have to agree with this.
I want to play this game, but I won't until 2.0, and I won't pay a sub for a beta untilit happens.
This...pretty much says it all.
They should have just done what Trion did and turn those 9 servers into
"Trial servers". ^_^
Has this game improved since launch ?
Well what MMO doesn't improve since launch? The real question would be, what exactly didn't you like about the game and whether Square has made changes to remedy that?
A little, pretty much just "bandaid" fixes however.
I would clean up the grammer in a news article. It seems like this was directly translated from a a language other than english.
And... then I spelled grammar wrong...
Another clueless one, the word is critics. Hate is an awfully strong word. To dislike something is not to hate it.
This game still has a long way to go. I don't think it is worthy of a sub yet.
It's good b/c when they release version 2.0 they will open new servers for ps3 players and returning pc players. this way most people will be able to play on a fresh server and not having broken economy with some old timers who gathered milions of gil.
I was one of those who left after they started to charge monthly fee. Not worth a dime but as F2P it was tolerable. Then SWTOR released and EQ2 came up with AOD expansion and i haven't looked back since. I am happy spending double monthly fee on SWTOR and EQ2 but i wouldn't spend one penny on FFXIV. That is how bad this game is.

It runs more smoothly. Still not great, but not half as terrible as it was during beta.
Other than that I didn't notice anything different from when I tried it again last December.
(is it just me or does almost every NPC's mouth look too big in this game now?)
I'll make a list.
UI was awful. Clunky, slow poorly optimized just all around bad
Was unable to set controls to the specifications that FFXI has as default, WTF is that about? This is an absolute must!
Content was very repetative. Just another quest hub fetch quest system with a diff name slapped on. Guildleves?
The amount of content was lacking very lacking. Hardly any NMs, very little storyline and mission content.
Repetitive combat. Meaning I had to spam 1 1 1 1 2 1 1 3 over and over their remedy to auto attack was far worse than auto attack ever was.
Is that one city open yet? Ishgard I think it's called? Is that supposed to be the new Jeuno?
Not enough mage classes, really just two? The final fantasy "Universe" has tons and tons of mages yet they have two?
No auction house and whatever system they had in it's place was just inconvenient and silly. Did they do anything to fix it?
Those are just a few things, I remember being irriated with more. Really the only thing I liked was it still had that Final Fantasy feel and the graphics were very nice. Other than that I couldn't stomach it for more than an hour or two. Yet I can still play FFXI for and entire weekend and still want more Monday afternoon.
Just remembered, I also really liked the class system and being able to switch on the fly and keep certain abilities from other jobs, that was really cool. The crafting and gathering systems were both a huge improvement compared to ffxi as well.
As always, just my opinion.
Well that is just your opinion. Many people including myself have loved all but the most recent Final Fantasy games. Meaning 13 and 14. In all honesty I was ok with 13 but the bar is set very high when it comes to Final Fantasy games and it clearly did not meet expectations, but was an OK game as far as I'm concerned.
7 is clearly the most favored among the masses but I loved 9-11 just as much or even more. 12 was pretty dang good too.
wow i didnt know this game is still running... too much for hype on those days but failed to deliver... S>my FF14 LE copy $1... any takers...? :X
I loved 6 and 4. 7 was still good, but it was the start of a downward spiral in my opinion as far as single player RPGs go
For MMOs, 11 was one of my all-time favorites. 14 I wanted to like, but was hugely disappointed. If 2.0 makes it more like 11, I'll be happy to give it another chance. But not before then.
Heh , we think alike , I thought the game died a while ago. When you see FF11 with a way better rating then FF14 , you got issues.
Does this mean FFXIV is surviving? Then it is a good thing.

People who played 7 as their first FF don't really have valid opinions on the series IMO. 6 was way better, and 8 was better story-wise (and a huge leap in graphics and pre rendered scenes, if that counts for anything). 7 was great, but it wasn't the best by far.
As for 14, I don't even understand what they thought they were doing, and I was punished here for complaining about the game. I couldn't post when the forums exploded with disgruntled customers, but it still brought a smile to my face.
