EvE's 14 day trial proved too much for me

HenchdwarfHenchdwarf Member UncommonPosts: 517

Ive been playing mmo's since everquest 1. pretty much have tried every major mmo of the past 10 years, at least for a month or two.   I have to confess, however i am simply not intelligent enough to decipher the EvE newbie rundown.   I never knew what i was supposed to click!

it's not that the idea of complexity drove me away, it's the inaccessability of the tools.  After faithfully following along the hyper detailed avatar creation (i spent 5 minutes adjusting my smirk) i ended up in Bruce Willis' apartment in 5th Element with holograms bombarding me from all directions and some disembodied voice telling me to open various drop menus that are somtimes 3 and 4 steps removed.  once i learned how to walk (a gait cycle that looked awfully alot like a particularly effeminate male models prance) i faithfully follow down a science fictiony looking corridor-ramp to a GIGANTIC docking bay, where i rapidly random click my way into a green fecund looking escape pod....then i was lost in space (a place filled with a million more options)

my hats are off to all of you who survived this and learned to play this game. you havent heard the last of Kaezo Regosichar!!

Took me 14 hours back in 2006 just to get through the tutorials. And that was before they Rewamped it.. So it was even more difficult... I stayed though and have played it for 6 years straight...

Fact is EvE seperates the MEN from the Mice...Either you CAN or you CAN'T there is just no Inbetwen in EvE..

Fact EvEs avrage player age is 28 years old.. Its a game for grownups not childrean..

Ps those that couldent are the once that Bitch and moan about this game.. True story..

And there are those like You OP that Respect the game but feel its just be to much.. Those people keep respecting it.. But the cry babies are the people who FAILED...

EvE is a hell of a game man.

I've been playing MMOs since 1999 as well, starting with EQ and I had some really helpful people tell me what to do in the newbie channel.

I joined a guild, one that was specializing in newbies becoming ace capsuleers and our first real task was to build a bit of bank, get some reputation, and get a few decked out PvP frigates.

We frigate swarmed some zero sec and had a blast while doing so.

That about encapsulates my EvE career. What a fun 3 weeks.

False. To the fantasy, its horror genre. I guess that could be 'fantasy' to some. It is set in a alternate modern world with behind the scene supernatural beings.

Fasle-maybe to it being Eve. We can only speculate since we know little but I would guess they are hoping to try to create a game that mimics the TT game. I imagine in some ways it will be similar to Eve, but I wouldn't go to say it being an Eve 'clone.' We will see though if it reaches the light of day.

Old school requires reading tutorials, forums etc. Eve is work to get started but a fantastic game in the end if it's your style game.

Eve does takes time to get used to.  At first it feels like you are trying to play "Excel Online", it feels like you trying to play a spreadsheet lol.  But after a while it becomes second nature.  I havent played the game in years but i remember having fun playing it once i finally understood how much of the things works.  Keep at it i would say.

I found it all rather straightforward, the tutorials were simple and gave you the experience you needed to progress in various aspects of the game, learning how to fit a shp well requires some research, but that's only a google away.
