I don't think any of these new games will beat daoc, but if gw2 or tsw or dominus or whatever can get to 80% daoc when it cones to pvp I will take that over these 100% wow pvp games
Im very much looing forward to GW2 but I think many of the people here are fooling themselves.
GW2 is going to definetly be different and something somewhat new but it is also almost certainly going to be the most casual PVE game out there. The PvP is where this game will shine. The people looking for a game with tons of depth and character progression are looking at the WRONG game however as GW2 will not be that game. This game more closely resembles a MMO Fantasy version of Call of Duty than DAOC.
Anyways since I didnt post something that was all sunshine and lollipops about GW2 I fully expect to get piled on by the usual suspects here who lose their minds when someone doesnt agree that GW2 will be the best game evah
Couldn't agree more, been saying this all along. It's going to draw some serious hardcore pvp'ers.
I'm not "Hyped up" for it, but I'll be looking forward to how it turns out. Having played UO for years and WoW for years and having tried most other MMOs, I'm still looking for that next MMO fix.

I missed the memo about having to be a vet of this forum in order to be a vet of the actual genre
There is not such a memo..............but it kinda obvious. Vet doesn't mean you are an expert, just that you play those games longer than most Unless you meant that a newby in this forum might be a vet as well, in which case you are right, but I find it difficult to think tht a vet of this genre doesn't have an old account with this site which is the oldest MMO site on the net.
The forum that I was a member of for almost a dozen years, closed shop last year. I'm testing the waters here.
Name? (Just curious) GamersRepublic.net

I missed the memo about having to be a vet of this forum in order to be a vet of the actual genre So how long have you been playing MMO's then? Have you only ever played them on broadband or did you ever play them on a trusty 33k modem? I'll be very interested in your answer. My first mmo experience was UO. My favorite and longest running sub (over 8 years) was SWG.

Stop detailling please. This is why I banned you from gamefaq forums.
Oh, so you were one of the mods there that sent that site into the can eh?
All starting to make sense now. Besides, if anything his post could have provided more detail.
:P
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
I been on the forum for a while now. Seen many post and threads from Vets, that seem to be grieving the death of the MMO genre in their eyes.
But I am curious, are any of you grieving, tired MMO vets, hyped up for Guild Wars 2?
If so, what areas of GW2 are you hyped about most?
You believe GW2 will become your new main MMO?
share with us your thoughts and feelings about the upcoming GW2 which seem to be drawing in lots of attention. Maybe this will be the MMO which finally pleases you. What you believe?
Yes.
I like the idea of no holy trinity - you just group with anyone.. your friends and strangers don't have to be a certain build or class to play with them.
I like the idea of free form open world grouping without the need for a "join public group" button - that silly little button takes away from the act of cooperation and companionship being spontaneous.
I like how PvP is 100% seperate from PvE, as I feel it should be.
I like how they have both instanced, eSport PvP that makes no illusions as to what it is and why it is there, and the ideas and such I have heard about WvW PvP and the Mists etc. sounds like a lot of fun, like what Warhammer and such should have been.
I like the idea of limiting the number of abilities you can have available at once, the idea of the skill decks and having trade offs.
I like the rumor it may be coming to consoles, as I've always wanted a MMO I could play on a console.
I like how it's B2P.
I like how the classes are not restricted by race, and there are no factions restricting who plays together either.
I like how the open world PvP stuff is server vs. server as a way to build community.
I like a lot of things about GW2 and I hope it will become my new main MMO.
Hyped, no been burned too many times the last few years. Cautiously optimistc yes, I am looking forward to the PvP aspect of the game and hoping they add the player back into MMORPG.
With only 5 years of MMO playing, I wouldn't really consider myself a vet, but I am looking forward to GW2. That said, I have many other games like WoW, Spiral Knights, and RTS games that I enjoy, so I'm not just being bored complaining about other games in my free-time.
Certain features of GW2 really interest me, dynamic events and WvWvW especially. However, I'm not going to go as far and consider it my 'perfect' MMO or say that it will be something that would revolutionize the genre. Features like removal of the holy trinity and no large-scale raiding are two features that I fear will turn out poorly. Either way, I'll buy it just to try something different.
nah, as a matter of fact I'm more tired of all the gw2 hype
gw2 what 5v5? 10v10? small map instanced pvp, no thank you! lets move along now.
GW2 does indeed have structured PVP on small instance maps, which can be anywhere in the spectrum between 5v5 competitive monthly and yearly tournaments between serious teams, to the other side which is custom hot joinable casual pvp akin to creating a game lobby like you'd find in a console FPS.
But GW2 also has their take on World PVP, which takes place in a separate region of four zones, each able to hold at least 500 people. It's 3 faction PVP against other servers. You get matched up against new servers of similar strength at the end of a two week period. Not only does this completely eliminate intra server faction imbalances (so it's not always faction A vs B&C), it also makes for more balanced matches overall (winning servers play winners, losers play losers), and fresher experiences (you won't always be the big server or the little server). There will also be capturable objectives, dynamic events between them (for example, ore shipments from a mine to the keep that can be defended or disrupted), seige equipment which can shoot fireballs with map-wide range, and destructable environments.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it."-Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
After the flood of information yesterday I wonder if any skeptics (or any fans) have changed their minds about GW2. Me personally... an already over-hyped internal meter has kicked into hyperdrive. This is going beyond already lofty expectations.
I still very much enjoy eq2 and will for a long time. That said my wife and I try almost every game out there, well almost all. I have been looking forward to GW2 since it was announced, and with all the new info out, I ll be playing EQ2, and won t even bother with any new MMOs being released, like TSW, or Tera. Mormally I would buy them just to see if it might capture me, but no point now, GW2 is where it s at.
I was a huge DAOC nut, the WvW alone made this decision for me, but the more I read about what else GW2 has to offer, I just can t wait.
Not at all. Sorry but nothing is very impressive in this game. When i see only that strange walk of characters i lose will to play, and plus on that instant teleporting, bahhh. Even when you make screens from game big you see how simple that graphic is. One little cosmetic upgrade over first gw. Good for few months but nothing huge like it was wow.
Seriously i could nto get enough of all the videos and information that came out about GW2, i recently re-subbed to RIFT (SWTOR was dismal and really disappointed me) but i did not spend one single minute playing yesterday, all i did was read and watch videos of what the reporters got to do all weekend long.
Im looking forward to GW2. IV been playing MMOS for over a decade now. Reason Im looking forward to it? Buy to play, no more paying for bug fixes and ballance issues. Innovation and focus on comunity instead of premade content. WvsWvsW looks alot like old DOAC mechanics... All in all ArenaNet is trying to do things a little diffrently. And why not atleast try it when its Buy to play?
Im glad we can see atleast some innovation in this day of age. And not all the crap we have seen from the big studios the past 8 years.
I'm a disgruntled old MMO Vet. Everquest stole my soul, and has not returned it since. That being said, I'll buy GW2. I'm not hyped, not even really excited for it. I'll play it when I can, but I realize it isn't the same kind of game that EQ was, and thus isn't what I'm looking for.
The business model they are using is genius though, if it had a sub I wouldn't go near it.
The game will have some issues, and there are some things I think they should have done completely differently, but in spite of that, yeah, does look like it'll be a good game. Possibly even a great game. Probably not the best MMO ever, but its looking very likely that it'll be one of the best.
It's not about buying into hype for me, so much as just judging all the info and gameplay footage I've seen. Wasn't all that long ago that I'd just watch trailers, and get excited by what the devs seemed to be going for. From WAR to APB.. I don't buy into any of that, anymore. Fortunately, we have a lot more to go on, though, and given everything I've seen, I'll be shocked if this game is any less than an 8/10 or so (for me)
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

This is the only game I've really wanted to play for the past 3 years. So, I guess that puts me in the "YES!!!" camp?
I got a chance to spend 40 minutes with the game last year. I very much want more.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
After 12 years in the genre nothing has exicted me more than Guild Wars 2.
Ok, not sure in understand what you were saying. Excuse me.

I've got a chubb. So, "yes."

"Remember, remember - Kakk says 'December.'"
Nope
Its hard for any mmorpg lover and not happy with the current games available to not be at least excited with GW2...i know i am.
