I stopped reading right at "It can't be denied that Star Wars: The Old Republic sold well. Estimates are ranging from between 1 million to 1.5 million sales. However these don't account fully for piracy. It was a major sales hit, but these games live on subscriptions. And subscriptions may be a problem for this game"

This dude has no clue wtf hes talking about has he even played the game ?   Piracy ?  rofl what does he think its some single player game people can download ? and 1 to 1.5  ?  There were over 1 mil NA preorders NOT counting digial preorders or europe period.

I love reading artciles from morons claiming doom who dont even know what the game is it really shows that any moron can review games or write an article now days.

Even so. I remember it took the people who created the WoW private server code months to get up to the current build, but that was during Wrath.  I doubt pirating was a major issue in SWTOR's release.

Was it 'ever' a WOW challenger?

  • OberholzerOberholzer Member Posts: 498

If you like the game play it, if you don't like it don't play. Does it matter if it's challenging Wow or not?

Agreed, I plan on trying this game in 6 months or so.  I like the old republic storylines but I want to wait until the game is more polished.

Not sure if it was EA's intention or not, but it's hard to imagine EA supporting BioWare with 200mil if there wasn't the slightest ambition of stealing a good chunk of subscribers from WoW.

As for SWTOR being an actual WoW challenger?

No, and never will be, period.

If there's any justification in this outcome, it's that George Lucas, the once aspiring filmmaker who compromised his artistry with the crap that was passed off as the Prequel Trilogy, is getting some well needed karma.

May he cry his eyes out in his golden bed stuffed with $1,000.00 bills.

Not really. People like competition in the market. It makes developers try harder to please the community. But without it, that leaves developers to pull a Mac-Apple-STEVE kinda move on us.

Do you really, firmly believe he intended the prequels to be as bad as they were? Not defending him, but just asking.

Because I live in China, so I have to wait for the game's release in China. I am a huge fan for Star Wars the movie.

was a bit shocked when he mentioned piracy tbh since there no free servers running at the moment and its a sub based game so u got to buy a legal copy to play .

but he is right about the engine there something seriously wrong with it and they are struggling to fix it ,i am beginning to fear its in the game's bones and cannot be resolved.

It never was. Hype is a dangerous thing.

OP, that article gets torn to shreds in the comments section, with links to other sites clearly explaining why.

It's factually incorrect, biased in the extreme & basically not even worth reading, it does nothing except stir up a hornets nest that quite rightly stung him in the ass.

He's a 2-bit shill masquerading as "an expert writer"
