Yesterday I decided to buy a serial for this game after having played WOW and L2 for months... man I feel so ripped off. Thats gotta be the 40 worst spend in my whole life.
Once u log in u are taken to a main screen where u can choose to play the game from lvl 1 or jus start the PvP stuff at highest lvl (20) . I decided to try the lvl 1 thingy... man I havent felt so bored in a mmorpg in my life. At lvl 5 I was totally discouraged and disappointed. All u do is follow stupid childish repetititve quests that get boring after 30 min. The graphics are bad, u cant jump of cliffs, go up hills, nothing u can just follow the path or u get blocked. Community is non existant as everything in this game is instanced, so dont expect to play with ur friends.
After this 1st horrible experienced I logged out and decided to try the max lvl PvP option. After customizing my character I entered in the arena where grps of 4 ppl fight each other till death. Funny .... till u ve done ur 10th fight then it just gets boring
All in all I found this game a big rip off tbh

Since you only played in the newbie area, you can't tell if the game is good or not.
another wow fan who hates GW because its better than WoW
Sorry to hear your didnt have a nice experience with this game.
To me, the graphics are absolutely glorious - best ive seen ever.
Restricted movement is frustrating and so is lack of PvE content, but hey, this game was designed to be PvP oriented. I play this game from time to time in between WoW and PS becuase once u purchase the box, the rest is free - cant complain there.
And you can always play with your friends, dont be silly.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

yeah must be that....
or maybe I am a mmorpg fan who cant understand how this game is considered a mmorpg in the first place ...
I can understand your frustration. You are used to having hundreds of people ganking your spawns and pushing you through mish's when you do them. You are also right, I am not sure how they call this a MMORPG since all area's are instanced outside of the city's.
That is probibly the draw. First off. You can play for 10 minutes and have fun. You dont have to spend 200+ hours on character developement before you can go with a group of people just to have one person pull a Leeroy Jenkins and mess up everyone's day. Secondly the mishions are only about a 3rd of the way to get exp. You can go out and clean an area just like any MMORPG, you can do Quests from NPC's or you can do mishions to advance. Each one is different.
I am sorry you did not have a nice time, but think of it this way, at least you did not have to cancel your subscription because there is no monthly fee.

This person- WoW fan or not- obviously came here so as to flame GuildWars, it was really a sad attempt to discourage people from buying it by claiming "You can't play with your friends" LOL. I highly doubt this person ever purchased the game and played it. You don't need to play the game to post them, as they're repeated cliches posted by WoW Fanboys coming here we're used to read daily.
That's something I have to agree with without a moment's hesitation
Restricted movement and lack of PVE content..These two constructive critisms (I can even say "fact") are welcome in this board. And it's nice to see someone who is also playing World of Warcraft posting this kind of useful critisms. You and your thoughts are always welcome. I bet they will fix it, as it's annoying for most of people. And new PVE content may be implemented with expansion back

Ive been curious, is there more places to PvP other then those arena maps? Those were very small and seemed exactly the same on both sides. I haven't played, just watched someone play so I dont really know how the system works.

YALL DONT READ ENOGUH!!! IT says on the main site this game is not meant for the hardcore gamer, it is meant for casual gamers... people who dont have the time to spend time grinding (like i do :P)
Plus if you made it to lvl 5 you didnt reach the best part of the game... not even the 2nd best or 3rd...
1.GvG
2.Tombs/Arenas(with some expirience)
3.Tombs/Arenas(with some expirience) cant just make a pvp character with the preset skills... there are 100's os skills to test out
What a crap ass review... Hi i played this game to lvl 5 and it sucked dont buy it.
What i will say (6Lvl 20's) and weeks of playing time (yes thats 100's of hours.) The game sucks if you are used to games like WoW, or DAoC, EQ etc. But graphics ROCK and PVP is great... why would you ever take advice from a person who played the game to lvl5???
Damn WoW players are by far the biggest spammers that hate this game... and if you wanna talk about bad community dont look at GW, so try WoW, cause ya i played that too, and GW commun might not be good but GW's Comun makes WoW look like STANKY ASS SH1T!
Boy, i have played so many games. Want an opinion on any major game? PM me.
I happen to be a HUGE fan of Guild Wars. I've been playing since the beta. And one thing that bothers me is people complaining it's not an MMORPG. THAT'S CAUSE IT'S NOT! They don't even call it an MMORPG. I've got a direct quote from the FAQ on the Guild Wars website that should clear that up.
Is Guild Wars an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)?
... then...
Rather than labeling Guild Wars an MMORPG, we prefer to call it a CORPG (Competitive Online Role-Playing Game). Guild Wars was designed from the ground up to create the best possible competitive role-playing experience.
That should explain it. It's not truly an MMORPG.
Also, has anyone who's criticized the PvE system taken on the Underworld or Fissure of Woe? Or attempted to kill Glint? They're some nasty monsers there.
Also for PVP, the main part of it is not the arena. That's just practice. The team competitions are extreme. Hall of Heros battles are intense, and require good groups with experienced members.
I understand a lot of people may not like the game for certain elements. But I personally have put about 150 hours onto the game since the beta. I always find something new to do.
Mil you have a good point but the thing is i have to agree with you both because i look over these forums quite a lot and with 100% honesty i see about 80% of the hate mail about this game coming from old or current WoW players.
Now saying all wow players are spamming dicks... but it seems when it come to this site.. WoW players like to slam this game pretty good.
Opinion,
-WHOO
Boy, i have played so many games. Want an opinion on any major game? PM me.
I played through the game multiple times. I am a semi casual player. In as few words as possible, I hated the game.
Why? PvE was linear, economy was inflated, and the PvP was repetitive (even in the oh so acclaimed Hall of Heroes)
I think the OP is smart on giving up so soon, I wasted a month of time on this game.
Yes u are right WHOO, I just played the game up to lvl 5 , and did like 15-20 arena combats
Like I said:
1) PvE is boring as hell, quests are repetititve and childish. Looks like a 5 year old designed them
2) PvP gets repetitive aswell after u ve made 15-20 fights, u win some, u lose some and yada yada yada
So why should I continue playing this game? After 5 hours playing I felt ripped off and was bored as hell
And be4 some1 says this game requires no grind, ok I may agree, but who cares no grind if game is boring as hell? I can tell u 100 online games that require no grind either but surprise surprise ... ARE FUNNY !!!
Why is it that whenever anyone complains about the game, the GW fanboys attack them and call them a WoW fanoy in an attempt to insult them? How about you actually realize that these people have valid complaints. Pull your head out of the sand, this game is BAD, plain and simple. Yes, it's streamlined, and the graphics are good. It gives the illusion of being a full game with plenty to do. But in reality, it takes the MMORPG formula and just waters it down and throws it at you in a repetitive fashion.
A lot of these people that only play to level 5 have the same complaints as me, who played through the game twice, had a very active guild, and won HoH a few times with my guild. I played through the "highlights" of the game, and still the game blows. I didn't like WoW either, but it had a LOT more content and was far less repetitive than GW could ever hope to be.
I WISH I had gotten the hint at level 5. That way, I wouldn't have wasted so much time on the game. I kept grinding it out in hopes that the PvP would be worth it. It wasn't. PvP has NO POINT other than a little ranking. For a game that is based around PvP, it's really repetitive, inbalanced, and pointless.

It was a high doubt, I didn't claim certainly you didn't buy the game.
Don't even bother to send account details, I won't really care about, let your troll show go on, I really wonder how many people you will discourage from buying this game. I don't know which game you're in fanboy love. Let's take WoW for instance. If I got my character level 6 and went their boards and cried out "this game sucks monkey balls", I'm pretty sure I would make them roll on the floor by laughing with my brainstorm critism. That's what I'm currently doing anyway.
Instead of getting games without research and getting a few levels in it, I suggest you to consider them carefully at least and express your opinions worthy points to be looked if you want to be taken seriously here, especially by me.

5 words play Dark Age of Camelot
Strange. I'm level 20 but I feel like I've done 2/4 part of ths game.

Now the topic seems to envolve into a promotion, lol, let's wait to see what comes next. But I no longer be a part of this topic in next hours.
Let me clarify that I'm not fanboy of this game. I'm not fanboy of any game, cause the fanboys are blinded, can't bare to see any negative comments no matter how they're constructive and written in good sense. If you really track this froum, you can see I accept the some negative aspects of this game, as the critisms about them were really constructive and not written for the sake of flaming. But don't expect me greet these repeated cliches which lack construction, imagination, intelligence, grammer, knowledge etc. They're really sickening!..
I'm really fed up of replying all this nonsense repeats which can be easily made by the people who even don't play the game. They can just track here, that's enough. However I feel myself immune to this kind of posts on these days and I'm happy with this situation
...
OK, here's what I meant. You're doing good with your troll show, spam every topic related to GuildWars, save people's dollars, but I did end this nonsense here. This topic is dead for me now.
Have a nice day!

As someone who finds WoW AND GW not worthwhile in the long run, let's recap:
1) you can't run up hills or down slopes. You can't step over a log if it's in your path. AKA no 3-dimensional (the "z-axis" from Unreal Tournament) available. You're confined to the predetermined paths the devs chose for you. Lovely.
2) totally instanced world. You can play online with the vast community ONLY in the cities, because the moment you and your party leave, it's all INSTANCED. No roaming the world and finding new people, since they can't be, by definition, in your "world" with you.
I think it's a question of expectation. If you're looking for an MMORPG with a world that you share with others, realise that this emphasizes neither the MMO part nor the RPG part. It's 1/2MMO (the half being the cities ONLY), 1/2RPG (rpg-ultra-lite). I'd call it a shooter, but that's not quite right either.
