Thinking about buying guild wars, but....

Good afteroon Guild wars community!
I'm a long time MMO player trying to find something new and fun! GW sounds like it could be a winner. But first I had some questions/rumors I wanted to ask the existing GW players….
- I'm not a huge PvP fan but do enjoy it on occasion. Is there enough PvE content to keep one in the game? Aka high end mobs and dungeons, dragons, etc?
- How about loot? Good loot, bad loot? Is the best stuff player made or looted?
- The classes sound like fun as do the mixing and matching. Could for example you create a ranger with a subset warrior class? i.e. decimate a target with your bow and then switch to a blade when the target gets close?
- Is there a dual wield ability? Player housing?
Thanks everybody!

Yes, there will be PVE content, but it's not the best, however you can deal with the mobs with both real players and also hechmans. But the game certainly focuses on PVP, and it's has an exceptional team-PVP. There are bosses which you can take elite skills according to your profession. Normally the higher level mobs drops better cash and better items and as far as I know loots are random. I mean you can't get a certain loot from a mob. However I found a link that lists which salvage items you probably loot from monsters. There's no dungeon in GuildWars. More experienced people please correct me or add information if I miss something.

Yes, it's possible of course, it really depends on you. You need to boost your Marksmanship and Swordsmanship attributes, however, it means you will lack in other attributes like tactic which effects warrior's heal skill (heal signet) so you need to consider them carefully, it's up to you of course

There is neither dual wield ability nor player housing in this game. To be honest, you will be missing some MMORPG contents like the ones you mentioned above, but I can say it's a funny game overall, it does focus on PVP, however they will add more content we're used to see in MMORPGs in their expansion pack, who knows.

I'm not a PVP freak either, but it's really fun, you won't get bored with this game so easily.

It has a nice PvE content, but it's mainly based on PvP and yes, they are adding or just added 2 new places for the lvl 20's (max lvl).

Loot is that and that. You don't get any overpowered weapons in the game. It depends actually, how much people farm here and there, the drops are constantly changing.

Yes, you can be a ranger that uses melee weapons and also I want to notice that this game needs a team and in PvP, there are lots of different combinations, not to mention that the koreans have a very nice build, where an axe using ranger is dealing massive damage, but then again, that's because that ranger was depending on the enchantements and the buffs that his/her teammates were casting.

But still, this game is basically about PvP, when you end PvE. PvE lasts about 1 week-3 weeks if you constantly play it.

Im sorry to say but i dont think Guild Wars would be the game for you... I'm a fan (but yes bored of it) of Guild Wars.

It really doesnt have that great of PvE, this games main focus is PvP(and did a good job at it), there is no player houseing and no dual wielding.

May i reccomend DAoC, good PvE, player housing and numerous dual wielding classes. plus many optional PvP places.

Listen, I'll save you 50 dollars.

    This game is highly overrated.

    Problems:
    1) PvE content is AWFUL. Every quest is repetitve, and linear. There is no exploration, no free roam. EVERY part of the game is made so you must go a certain way. They claim to be making the PvE better, but if you ask me they cannot fix it, it is already ruined. I played through it once. Beat the game. Tried again, and stomached it hoping the PvP would be worth it. It wasn't.

    2) Instances completely DESTROYED the community. You will NEVER see other players on the field unless if they are on your team when you formed it in the town. Makes you feel like you are playing a watered down 1 player game.

    3) The economy is dead. Inflation is already rampant.

    4) PvP is overrated. The whole "skill>grinding" is a lie. In order to do PvP at all you have to beat PvE at least twice to get skills. Also, the combat is pretty dry and repetitive, even in PvP.

    5) Most of the peopel I ran into the game were around 12 years old. Why? Because the game requires no monthly fee and no credit card to play.

And before any of you fanboys flame be, and say I never played through the game, or anything, you're wrong. I beat the game twice, had over 200,000 gold. Was in a highly ranked guild that PvPed frequently. I also did Hall of Heroes often, and even won it a few times with my guild. Know what? The game BLEW, even with it's so called "highlights"

If you follow the story line throughout the missions, this game is like a consol RPG with a little MMO mixed in for flavor at towns.  There are cutscenes in missions with you in them, mobs will not respawn unless you reset the instance, etc.

With no monthly fee, I don't see how you can put this game down seeing that it has the same content as your average hack-and-slash, but with the possibility of much more.

The question is, do you like games like that?  If so, you have nothing to lose.  If you are looking for an all out, questing/crafting experience, then GW isn't for you.
