See all those videos from Korea. This game is released there. If you got question go through some of those links and see if you like end game.

Indeed, however MANY "new" people to the MMO scene still haven't learned how to think for themselves in terms of quality & spotting the "preverbial" carrot in a new product. Granted it requires experience with other GOOD titles from the past to spot many of these fakers to the genre (ala: SWTOR), but what's more disturbing is the closed mindedness of many new people who don't want to believe something they "think" they like could be so horribly fake.

It's a personal thing, and I understand the issue, however it only inflates the wallets of horrible companies like EA into producing the same terrible products with GOOD Intellectual properties.

I agree with somethings you mentioned in your original post BUT you come off being arrogant with the attitude of "If I don't like it nobody else should either" because if you do your supporting bad companies like EA.....  (sigh)

People will spend money on what they find entertaining, who are you to say otherwise....  If you don't like the direction of the MMO scene and you think you can do better then go get a job in the industry or create your own gaming company and show them how it's suppose to be done.

I also think people who say the first generation of MMO's were better are looking at them threw rose colored glasses, time has made them forget all the misery the games put your through, a lot of it was over looked because it was New and at the time nobody every played a game with thousands of other people at the same time...  so a lot was forgiven...   but make no mistake they were far from a perfect gaming experience.

OP you aren't the thought police, please keep your condemnations and condescensions to yourself.  I have no idea why people make threads that essentially are "look at me I know more than you cus everyone else is so much newer at all of this than I am, so I must educate you the ignorant masses"

If we are on MMORPG.com lets take a wild guess and say that we're not "new" to mmos, and most of your assuptions are flawed, ignorant, or simply un helpful.

TERA is a quality AAA MMO.

One you clearly have it out for and don't like.

    Did you play it?

Did you read anything actually about it before you donned the mask of the doomsayer?

    I doubt it...

Every MMO has it's "3 month time waster" crowd, and you know what? Those people help the game a lot, in those 3 months that they truely like the game, they recruit a lot of their friends, bring them to the game, and then they recruit their friends. It's a big chain but it gets the people who will truely stay to play the game.

Dunno maybe I am too old and stupid, but I went back to Lineage 2 after playing wow rift and so on.. oh man I missed these kind of games so freakin much but of course the hype for new games and the countless wow clones got  me playing these new age crap. Honestly, I wish Ive never tried any of these. Lineage 2 is a korean grinder and repetitive, still it makes me play month after month. If you know and/or played those really old mmorpgs, where you had 3 quests alltogether in the game and 5 skills at max lvl but still made you play every day, then you know what I am talking about. I dont need the game to hold my hands and give me quests so that I dont get lost or bored if you want story go play Baldur's Gate Or some Elder Scrolls game. I want to be scared of dying in game. I want to get random and rare but meaningful drops from mobs, and most of all I want pvp that actually fills me up with adrenaline I dont care if I have 5 or 500 skill, just make it happen. New games will make everything easy for you and with "easy" comes "boredom". When I said to ppl on this forum that SW:TOR will be a boring wow clone which gets old after the first 3 months, ppl tried to convince me otherwise with more then 100 posts and I got a warning because I trolled ppl apparently. Look at the forum now, and the general opinion about SW:TOR. All I did was telling people the obvious truth. I am telling you now the same thing about TERA, GW2 and even Archage (maybe the last one will surprise me, still hoping). I will have fun watching ppl fall into the same hole again and again. Good luck guys :)

Btw, the post is not intended as trolling, it is simply my honest opinion, read it digest it, think about it but dont bother trolling me about it, this is a single post, will not reply to anyone.

So your the ginder type hey whatever works for you works for you. But you can't simply rule every new game in to its never going to be good. Personally i knew SWTOR was going to be crap just coz its SW, from there i knew the game be more focus to sell it as SW rather than a mmorpg and we all saw how true that was. However at least Tera, GW2, and Archage is focus on selling it as a mmorpg rather than soemthing only raving fanboys would buy...well GW2 has lot of raving fanboys but most of them care about game play rather than coz its GW.

Then,  it will go F2P, where the free nature of it will draw in far more interest at least as a casual, now-and-then game, and will only then find success and become the new standard of F2P MMOs in terms of graphics and gameplay.

Anyone taking bets out how long the F2P conversion will take, yet? I give it a year.

I'll give it 6 months, tops. Just another grinder with the same dated mechanics. The questing espeically is horrid, they couldnt come up with something new?

Such as ? There is a SERIOUSLY limited number of possibilities when it comes to the questing model for gaining EXP.  I started in WoW's late beta. I still remember the howls about their quest system, on various forums... Its too bad that WoW never caught on, and made Blizzard more than a Billion dollars a year, year after year.... ^^  TERA looks like fun, and I plan to give it a try. If its entertaining, I'll stick around until it isn't.

felyx I also love Lineage 2, played it for many years on and off.

Was my first mmo and I will probably never feel the same for any other mmo.

But..... and it's a BIG but what they did with Goddess of Destruction and f2p ruined the game completely for me and I will never ever play it again. I was quite exctited going into Harnak Ruins the first times, after a few days in there I wanted to throw up. Giants Cave was a pain too but Harnak I just cant find words for it. The classes are not interesting anymore. It's buy to win like never before without all the RMT. Along with many other things.

TERA felt fun and fresh, haven't felt the same for any other mmo in a long time. It glued me to my chair during the "beta" weekend and stress tests and I can't wait for the next one. Almost like L2 did to me the first time I played it. I can see myself playing TERA for quite a long time. More than 3 months no doubt about it.

BTW for anyone that doesn't know this Tera is basically L3.... the people that were working on L3 all left NCSoft coz NCSoft sucked or something and went to blue hole studio to make Tera. So in theory Tera is L3 because its made by the people who made L1 and L2

That's a lather large exageration. A few developers do not make the whole team of L2. Although all is needed is the lead developer, I guess.

See, for me, this is fine.  I rarely ever go into an MMO (exception: SWTOR) expecting to play it more than a few months.  I'm perfectly fine with that.  $65 for 3 months of solid gameplay to me is well worth it.  That's a lot of entertainment for something that low of a price.

Longest I've ever stayed with an MMO is probably a year.  That was EQ2.  Haven't played anything yet as long (though Aion is a close second).  See, if you don't go in looking for this game that is going to consume you for years (hardly likely unless you become obsessed easily) you leave little room for disappointment.

edit:  I did play APB for a long time.  RTW launch to closure and GF's resurrection up till prior to release.  I don't really consider APB a typical MMO though.

Its true, why would you waste money on a game for only 3 months. You could get more content from a F2P game and save a bundle.

And there nothing new to TERA, you could stay with the game your playing now and save a bundle. There is just no way I can see shelling out money for this.

Yea, we pretty much figured it out by your 100th post repeating over and over the same supposedly uninterest in a game that you can't seem to avoid.

Besides, three months is pretty decent time nowadays, considering how many good MMOs are launching. For somebody that wants to sample everything, it is a good amount of time.

Combat system is at least not old and tired.

I liked that I logged into TERA and didn't automatically know every keyboard shortcut and that I've got some habits to break.

So many people desiring something different (and you can tell from some of the lists in PLAYED sigs, or post counts) and yet something new comes along and people bash it. It's not entirely new but it's not World of Wartera either.

You care to name one game with combat system like Tera's thats an open world mmorpg? And you want to name a political system thats like Tera's?

The combat system is new because they polished the combat system to a new lvl so its new just like how GW2 DE is new because while rift done DE GW2 polished it to a completley different lvl.

Waste? If I "only" get three months of entertainment from TERA, I'd consider it a bargin.  Besides, I'd likely spend more, not less on a F2P game, given the cash shop considerations.

No real reason. I like the combat system, and simply because you claim the political system is "pointless" doesn't make it true.  The fact is, I'm quite looking forward to playing TERA when it releases.

I havent done much reseach on Tera, but i can see that their combat system is quite fun and diffrent.

Cant say much about the rest but it looks very good.

For me the long wait is almost over for GW2, but Tera and Archage are 2 mmo's that seem to do things in their own wway witch is much needed in the lemming trains of mmo studio's :)

Don't see how saying new combat system means "new system that's in an open world MMORPG". Now your just twisting what you said because it's not true. The combat is far from "polished" but if you believe that then there is no way I can convince you otherwise. Also, no game would use a political system like TERA cause it has little to no point and is exploitable beyond what people care to inform.

Don't really care if you like it or not or whether you're looking forward to TERA or not. I was just adding that the combat system is not new by any means cause it isn't and the political system that people like to go on and on about when they have no idea what it really does for anyone other then what EME told them it would do. Though most of you guys will be changing your tune a couple of months after release anyway, so, it's up to you to go into this being blind or not which is not my problem.

You have a point about the political system, most people myself included have no idea how this will pan out.

However, the combat system is something that I've personally never experienced before. It's not so much the lack of tab targetting, but more how they managed to set the interface and the whole skill system in such a way that you don't have to look at the UI almost at all and all your focus is mostly on the action. And that is true for roles that are traditionally hard to move away from the UI, like those of the dedicated healer.

"Blind"? Thats rather telling... So, anyone who doesn't agree with your version of "reality" is "blind"?  As I always stated, these games are a hobby to me. A source of entertainment. As long as they are entertaining, I have no problem spending money on them.  As for the combat system, thats fun (to me), and I look forward to seeing more of it. If its not to your taste, then perhaps you should find a game that you do enjoy? Or perhaps another hobby?  If I enjoy the game for two or three months, I will consider the money well spent.

Again, I don't care what your opinion on the game is and whether you like it or not cause that's not the issue. It's not even the issue of whether I like it or not. The problem with telling people the lesser points of a feature that they get all defensive, like it's bad to like the game even with flawed things in it. That has nothing to do with what I am talking about. It has nothing to do with spending money or even wasting time. I just clearly stated that the combat system is not new and it's not polished because it's true. It's fine for you to like it and I'm not even saying it's bad but its not a new system and it's not up to the level that I would consider polished.

As for being blind, yes, going into a game beleving things are your way and not even bothering to actually look at it in other angles is jumping into it blindly. My version of "reality", as you like to call it, involved doing research and looking at things from all angles instead of just taking what a company says as face value. I think it's more telling of you as a person them me.

Although thread got jumped by hordes of TERA enthusiasts defending their game of  any negativity, OP still has very valid points which reach far beyond just TERA!

And tbh, future seems a bit grim when it comes to diversity. Threads like this are proof. There are thousands (probably millions) of gamers who are not really satisfied with the same old same old, but will still jump into next same old instantly when they get bored with the old same old.

By doing this you're giving a bright signal to every developer who's mainly after money.

I understand it's easy to get hyped but I wish people had more self control.

Personaly I will not be buying TERA for this exact reason. I was tempted and still am but after trying it in beta I decided not to, as honestly I don't see myself enjoying more than a month or two . When it comes to MMOs I'm looking for a game I can play and enjoy for a year+.
