Why would you play this game?

When Darkfall is out there?

I don't mean to be a douche, it's an honest question.

I don't know a whole lot about this game, I did some basic reading and watched few videos on youtube and I can't figure out what the draw is to this game.

If Darkfall and Mortal Online had a baby, then Dawntide would be that baby, but taking the worst aspects from both games to make it one heck of a retarded baby.

Because the chap(s) behind it have a (comparatively) good history behind them with a certain free EQ shard. Pretty much my primary reason.

there s tens of thousands of former darkfall players out there who abandoned the game primarily due to the sheer lack of updates. if dawntide turns out to be less defective than mortal, those people will definitely want to try it out.

Last time I played it seemed more like EverQuest than Darkfall.

I don't think the  OP has to worry about anyone playing dawntide in the forseeable future. This is from their main page.

I’m sure it hasn’t escaped anyone’s notice that we haven’t resumed development or posted any news in quite some time. The truth is, we experienced some uenxpected financial difficulties at the end of last year, and while we expected to have them solved quickly, this did not happen. In fact, as it stands right now we do not have the money to continue developing Dawntide.

We’re still working on finding new investors, but this will take time. In the meanwhile, we have officially stopped all development. We hope to be able to resume it in the not too distant future, but as of right now we cannot say when that will be or whether it indeed happen at all.

The website will remain online and we will update it should our financial status change. I apologize for taking so long to post this announcement, but up until now we were genuinely expecting development to resume in February.

As it stands the game is in Limbo, and i don't see them getting any financial backing.I hope they do though.

    Really sad news though :(

Yeah the game had promise but the development was slllloooooow.

Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is!

Even if development resumed today, it would take years before Dawntide could be considered playable. So much was broken, unfinished, and plain missing from the game during late beta, I couldn't imagine anyone actually paying for it.

I played Xsyon at launch and that was a smooth experience (excpet for the occational 5 min lag ofc) compared to Dawntide.

Too bad though, the game had many neat ideas.

What a shame, I hope they can secure funding for their project.

What Xsyon a smooth launch ? LOL it was awefull, infact is was so bad that all 15 people from my guild quit as it would take an hour to load up the zone where we had our base as well as numerous other issues.

I was beta testing Dawntide and it was not a bad game, still had lots of work dont get me wrong but it was still very playable and pretty stable.

Shame they have run out of cash,

You missed my point, it seems.

Xsyon was horrible at launch, i.e. me saying it was smooth compared to Dawntide was my way of saying Dawntide was a real f*****g mess.

Combat was awful in every way, the world was ugly and empty, models and animations lackluster to say the least. Bugs everywhere, silly lag and extreme fps drops for no apparent reason (despite the graphics looking like a game from 2001 and the world being totally empty of other players). Crashes and freezes, etc etc.

So no, it was not "very playable and pretty stable" at all.

You're positively being a douche. This game has a better chance of being made then DF2, a game so epic they call it a whole new game to sell more of the same people already bought twice. DF is a strong hopeful in this genre of MMOs, but you can't spout gibberish like this. Dawntide was absolute junk early on and it still put together a decent enough package to be the same, if not more, sandboxy then DF. Which had sand, but no box. Just a shit beach of EVERYONE has quit playing it.

Let it be known to any poor soul taking mmorpg.com forums seriously, that downtide had potential and could of been a contender.

Not sure who you're talking to. If you're going to insult someone, at least quote him first so he knows you're doing it.

As for the rest of your post, you're not making any sense. You mean to say Dawntide was better than Darkfall 2.0? That is, better than a game that is not even in open beta yet and thus incomparable?

Dawntide was in open beta for a long time, it improved extremely slow and the devs had almost no money. That showed, and now it's basically shut down. So no matter how much "potential" (god I hate that fucking word) it might have had, it's all over now.

I have no illusions about DF 2.0, but at least it's not officially dead yet. AV sure has more money than WAI did, and they once had a playerbase, a huge part of which will probably check out 2.0 if it ever goes live.

So compairing the two games is just silly.

I was talking to the OP, who both said "I dont want to come off as a douche" and compared the two games. So you need to read the thread before you get too emotional over someone's post. Also you aren't talking to some random person, im a highly paid consultant in the industry, so where as you just say something- I say something that matters.

Darkfall 2 has already been played.. Back when it was called.. Uh. Darkfall. Don't sit here and act like im an idiot, who thinks the lying bastards at AV will be putting anything ground breaking out. As stated I have hopes for that game, but I keep them realistic and im not dumb enough to get hyped over DF2 in 2018.

If Dawntide wasnt worthy of a little praise, we wouldnt be on a dead game's forum on a fan website, bickering over semantics because you like to argue. And again.. Its the tiniest bit of praise I give this now dead game.

You're delussioned if you think "Everyone will play DF2 again, my mommy tells me so when she tucks me in at night!". It wont happen, that game has burned thousands of people who wont ever give it a second look. Frankly I can only assume youre another one of the mindless DF fanboys who has to stalk all MMO forums plugging DF. Why? Because the game isnt fun enough to be played.

    See yah in 2018.

Dawntide...dishes and laundry ...makes me laugh every time and easy to remember.

Game has promise like the idea of scailable resources for the CELL design. Each Cell being capable of being owned by players. I think it has great promise in empire building.

True development has be extremly slow.

One of the things  that has always bothered me is the scale of the buildings. The seem off ...to small for the characters to get in an out of. I always get stuck in buildings.

Game needs allot of refinement before it is mass marketable. But is has caught my EYE and I log in frm time to time the check on it.

i agree on most points about lag and combat plus bugs but graphics i careless if its 2001 as long it have nice featers and gameplay ill play it.

Dawntide had some nice things and i enjoyed it even for while chopping trees crafting things but to manytimes crashes and bugs.

Its just way to small private project and funding this kind of games only survive if some rich person nomatter what finance it.

Small indie developers just wont cut it these days with crisis.

I wonder how long Darkfall will continuing, and thats even very stable game and lag free plus beautiful game world.?
