Why doesn't SWTOR have social hubs on the planets?

This is one thing that has bugged the hell out of me since I began playing SWTOR.  The Imperial Fleet is one of the dumbest ideas.  Why didn't they create centralized cities that are on the end-game worlds?  Right now we all go sit in some lame space station and hang out.  Why wouldn't they want to create an extravigant city like Stormwind or Orgrimmar in WOW.  Instead they have the fleets which are out of the way from everything else. I understand that Dromung Kaas is sort of intended to be the capital but when the fleet exists there is little reason to go there unless we want to respec.

Does anyone else think the Fleets are stupid as hell?

Many people here have complained about this, you are not alone OP.

I agree, Coruscant would have been such a cool place to have an actual city and not just a city themed questing zone.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

I think the Cantinas were supposed to be the social hubs. You got the juke-box and plenty of space. That was one part of fun, going to the different Cantinas on planets to hear the songs. It was what I was resolved to for a lil bit about a day, really..

I don't know about any other real social hubs on every planet that one could name. Other than the orbital stations but then that wouldn't really count. So my answer is Cantinas for sure.

If you need to socialize you will talk to your companion and you will LIKE IT!

Talking to other players has NO PLACE in an MMO!

While some of the planets seem a bit lifeless I think they are in general still damn good looking--why the hell would they create some bland imperial space fleet that we go hang out in.  Thats just dumb to me.

It's a shame, isn't it? Just look at that huge, awesome casino on Nar Shaddaa, for example. It's completely useless. They could have had pazaak tables, sabacc tables, slot machines, and various other social minigames spread throughout the whole thing. Instead you just go there for one quest and leave, never to return. Such a waste.

I was going to ask, is hanging out in fleet stations something that level 50's do?  Because I'm on my first character (lvl 38) the only time I go to Republic fleet is when I'm in a buying mood, otherwise I spend almost all my time in the Cantina's when not playing.  (BTW, I don't do any of the group content/flashpoints so that could be the reason)

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll add a facebook plugin at some point. Nothing better than a little farmville and messaging between those WZ pops.

    Gotta stay trendy right?

Lets be fair. I have played a few over the years and seen some great locations for "hangin out" that never, ever get used. I have always thought about the time and effort put into the places, and the designers imagining people using them----nope lets all sit in SW / Dalaran or what ever.

I rerolled on a RP server for TOR and do not regret my choice, having never rolled on an RP server before. People use Dealers Den on a regular basis.

There's nothing really keeping some of the planets from being social hubs.  They have the cantinas and there are usually vendors nearbye.

What would be good is if they added auction house vendors in the cantinas.  Give us the ability to sit in chairs and add little minigames to them.  Drinks and foods could give social buffs.  For instance, a drink might give the ability to play a certain song with an instrument or perform a certain kind of dance.  Just trying to come up with ideas to make it more fun.

I usually go to fleet to check the auction or buy something from one of the vendors.  Sometimes I do the flashpoints.

Really what's missing is the ability to actually SIT DOWN in the cantinas.  I mean, seriously....8 years ago in WoW you could actually SIT IN A CHAIR.  You can sit on your ship....why can't they make that doable in the cantinas?

I hate the Fleet.  It's only a place to get new crafting recipes for me.  That's the only time I go there.  Of course, I don't do any of the Flashpoints and Ops either, like someone else said, so maybe that makes a difference.  I'm at the cantina....chillin'.

    He definitely isn't alone.

This was the main "suggestion" that I submitted to Bioware when they wanted my opinion. I pretty much harped on this one a lot.

Sorry Bioware can't have everything at launch.

Aren't they supposed to be adding Pazaak at some point? Having multiplayer tables in cantinas could go a long way to helping populate them, but I'd agree that there probably needs to be less attention to making every area a quest zone. Coruscant was a huge let down.

gosh how awful... Unlike any other game that has a narrative to progress through or any book, film, play..  Last I checked, some 10 mins ago so things may have changed, you were free to engage in any fictional made up story you wanted to.

why does it take three cut scenes and three loading screens to get from the hanger to planet would be a better question?

They should have included faster travel options imo. STO even had to add faster options after people got tired of the load screens constantly.

And they definitely need social hubs, talking to your companions all the time is like being a mental patient talking to yourself constantly.

pretty much.. I remember in last phase of beta I got in and made numerous suggestions about many of those "little extra" features like LFD tool, reactive ability indicator, better guild tools, better UI, match to chest option, hi-res textures and other little things like better social spots and options for more interaction in cantinas... you know what I got? pages upon pages of  flaming me about how none of these were necessary and if bioware felt this game needed this stuff they would have built it into the game already. A lot of this stuff was brought up in beta but was shot down by many hardcore fans who felt bioware knew best about everything and many i feel bioware just dropped the ball on...

they said while they love the idea of mini-games it's not anything in the near future...

Fleet needs to go, botton line.

Should stick all the instances on Ilum so maybe people would gather there and PVP.
