That would be ideal.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.
Its funcom, don't fool yourself. The game will bomb, which is why no one cares.
and this is why i am glad there is no hype, funcom have done the hpye thing with games in the past. they know it does not work in the end. no hype no major let down, unlike GW2 all hype. both games i am really wanting to play.
TSW like the idea could be good, will see.
GW2 damn the game sounds so good need to play want to play, i just feel i am going to be let down.
Also not a big IP game-AoC, TOR, even GW2 has a brand recognition that brings extra hype.
The thing about Funcom is that they've always been innovative. They always had great ideas and their ideas influenced a great deal bigger studios than them, even from the days of AO.
So, I'm more convinced that TSW will be a much bigger evolution in terms of fresh ideas than GW2. Unfortunately what was always hurting Funcom was the implementation, especially at launch.
As for the cash shop, I'll brave a prediction and claim that it'll probably be like LOTRO's. In other words, if you're a subscriber you'll have benefit points in it, if you choose to use it. If you're not, you'll rely more on it to buy adventure packs and similar stuff. And yes, I also believe that TSW will offer a F2P model, pretty much everyone in the industry is doing it at this point (NCsoft and SOE migrated all their games, Funcom their current games, others are in the process).
Every thread I see on the main page is for TERA/GW2, two of the most overly hyped games. With the impending release of this game why are not more people talking about this game? I for one am really looking forward to it.
Dont get me wrong I am looking forward to this 1 too but there are 2 problems with this title.
1. Its made by Funcom, notorious for under delievering, over promising and being bug riddled products at release.
2. More then likely this will come out at the relatively same time as the most anticipated MMO in the last 5+ years...GW2.

Actually, this game is loaded with name recognition. Which is the answer to teh OP's question
Whats there to hype? I can't support a game that has the last 3 points so its a pass,
Yeah. This + lack of information / footage. I won't be jumping on this boat until other people have played it extensively and were allowed to give their opinions. i.e. a few months post launch.
Why is everyone compalining about the cash shop? Hasn't funcom said its just gonna be for clothes, which will not even affect any form of gameplay? Or is there going to be other things in it as well?
Don't worry, I'll give you my impressions when the game launches. There is a certain beauty about participating in a game's launch, even if that game eventually fails to deliver long term.

Isnt that the opposite of funcom though? From what I understand, historically, Funcom delivers long term, just not at launch. Many players that play MMOs just overlook that fact and think that Funcom can't create top notch games even though they already have.

The issue isn't about if its gonna be p2w which they gotta be stupid to do. Its the fact that they are asking me to purchase the game then Pay a monthly fee thats suppose to help fund further development and cover cost. Then after that try and get me to buy things that they developed during the time that my monthly fee paid for. Cosmetic things that sometimes takes very little effect to develop such as switching colors of a certain item or moddifying a pattern on an existing template that already was in the original purchase. All this for a game that i don't own and was just renting which when i cancel sub i have nothing.
Its the whole concept of greed i can't support and why i won't give money to them. Look at how DLC's turned out, devs used to release free content and paid Expansion packs, then they relalized they could develop way less content than a expansion pack and sell tons of it a bit a time for more money. Now we have DLC on the same day a game releases.
I can't give money to them cause i don't want this trend of greed and milking to grow.
It isnt that TSW isnt currently having sex. Its just not with you. TSW is simply stringing you along while it tries out your closed beta friends who of course have nothing to gain and everything to lose by telling you about it. The fact that we havent had alot of leaks would seem to imply that the beta players enjoy what there doing enough not to stop and tell you about it.
(See. The girlfriend not having sex with you analogy really does work here.)

Yep, this is what pisses me off too. If you have a monthly sub game, dont be a douchebag and charge people for cosmetic stuff in a cash shop, everything should be obtainable in the game. If its a truely F2P game then go for gold, sell as much appearance stuff as you want.
I hate companies that double dip like $oE. Its greedy and pathetic. If you are playing a P2P game, everyone should have access to the best looking appearance gear through normal gameplay.

you will be able to buy whatever is in the cash shop, for in-game currency as well. it's there because there is money to be made from people who want to take short-cuts, so they can win the game faster.
The games are mostly hyped by the fanbase. Gaming companies release some flashy videos and rest of the job is done by fans. In case of TSW (if you visit official forums) you would know that it is a very tight knit community. Thet actually decided to keep posting to third party forums to bare minimum. That is why you don't see much hype on these forums as you see in case of games like GW2 and SWTOR.

First of all I find character customization very important. For example I started playing Aion and atm my armor has boobs and I wear a women's hat. I am not happy.
Second I will have the idea of being ripped off, paying for the box, a sub AND they have a cash shop as well. Even if I didn't care about what they sold in the cash shop.
And thirdly it's the principle. If this game is going to be a succes MORE games will have a cash shop next to a sub and box sale. And it won't be just for clothes.

people like spending real money for stuff in games. everything in the cash shop will be available with in game currency. they are trying to maximize profits. you dont have to spend real money to buy the stuff in the cash shop. you can spend in-game currency.

My guess... there really hasn't been much news about TSW, so far. Some vague trailers showing different areas, a very basic feature "checklist", faction backgrounds, and that's been about it, from what I've seen.
Seriously who cares for another subscription based mmo when gw2 is on the way and its b2p.
I dont like to pay per month and many more people feel the same as me.Pay to play will be dead when b2p is introduced by arenanet. And thats why they will be very successful.

Idunno, Maybe people aren't getting excited about a box fee, sub fee and a cash shop all in one game?
Oh, I will admit, it does look pretty good. Of course that's based on limited info. But I really don't care how good this game looks.
What in hell makes this game so amazingly awesome that FC can come out of the gate with such a blatant billing structure?

Truthfully after playing AOC from release i am really sceptical on getting stoked for Funcom games....
