Rise of Dragonian Era: Launch Day Interview

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Rise of the Dragonian Era, or RODE, officially launches today and we've got an exclusive interview with Game Service Manager Ryan Kwon. Check it out and then let us know what you think in the comments.

MMORPG.com:  Tell us about Dragon Riding? How does it work in the game?

Ryan Kwon:  At the beginning of the game, players are given a dragon egg. After hatching their egg, players will have their own baby dragon pet that, with time and training, grows to full size and can be used as a mount. There are also other dragons and mounts in the game that players can have access to as well.  When players are on a mount, they will get a special set of skills unique to the mount that can be used in combat.  Players can ride their dragons around the continent to explore and also take part in aerial combat if they encounter an enemy midflight.

I must say! This game looks quite decent! Had a pleasant CBT and everything. How many dragons? So many dragons.

    [Mod Edit]

1 - their registrating is messed up, wont allow new accounts

2 - their game installation is messed up

    3 - the connection

4 - people disconnect all the time

While this does look interesting, and I like the graphic style, it looks like just another in a long, LONG stream of gank fest games.  Its the same reason I didn't play linage2 or Aion.

Game runs just find. typical heavy gm prescence for launch day. Seems stable with a decent connection/pc. Have yet to give the game a thorough playthrough so cant say much atm.

I was told it's a "tab" combat system, whatever that is. I'm obviously not a tab combat person. I got to lvl 4 . It's a decent game, just didn't have me hooked where I looked forward to playing. Sadly it took forever to intall and under 15 seconds to uninstall. Time to wait for the next one. Kinda holding out for Archeage. I hope to find one to hold my attention. Glad this one has many followers.

After waiting a while for it to install, I played it for 15 min and then uninstalled. The game is of low quality, and is the same as basically every other game out right now. Quest, quest, quest, with a sprinkle of a couple unique features, which is not enough to make me want to quest grind in a game ever again. I hate quest grinding, and I hate products of inferior quality, free or not.

I thought I was the only one who did this, install overnight while I'm sleeping only to hate the game and uninstall it not even 30 minutes afterwards. lol

I didn't even get to the install part. Looking at the game dynamics, and how these types of things have worked, many, MANY times in the past, I really see no point.  I've done some research on the game, and its no different from many of the ganking/griefing games we've seen in the past. Its too bad, as the game could have been interesting, and I like the art style.

    But to each their own.

    My descriptions of this game:

Graphics: Character Graphics are good, Terrain Graphics are EXTREMELY dated.

Movement: NOT responsive, clunky and well dated. Definitely NOT something you'd expect in a PVP focused game...

Cut scenes are nice but when added to all the other cons just don't make up the lack of dated mechanics and questing / grind...

Low budget game coming to market 2012 which doesn't bring anything different from any other game except Dragon pets, mounted combat (Which is painful with the clunky movement mechanics) and Flying Mounts.  Combined with what I explained above its just painful to see another game brought to our gaming market which yet again disappoint in so many ways.

This game is normal with other online games, but this one with a twist. even though the game has some problem issue like, the movement while riding a dragon or poor graphics (some players complaining about) and disconnecting issue, while for me and some other player this game is cool in some ways. Im a lvl 15 wind slayer, not a cbt player.  for me as a mmorpg/rpg player graphics is not an issue. the story is good, the mobs are quite stronger (thats good too), the mounts, the skill, the region war and the dungeon style. This game is cool. can't wait to reach lvl 40. and i wish i can win some PSP VITA or an Alienware Laptop. hope to see you soon in this game ^^

Tried this game out for two days now. The game has potential but still needs a lot of work.

Do not try to start this game as a Priest. It is next to near impossible to do anything alone as far as combat goes. This makes the game frustrating. Also the equipment durability is piss poor and you will find yourself always having to spend money on repairing equipment. Also the skill costs to buy skills are outrageous for a priest. This makes no sense as really your skills is what will keep you alive!

The mount system on here sucks. I still haven't quite figured it out but I think you have to get like two scrolls to even get the mount and combine them together or something. Or you can spend Gold and get one. Than u have to use a scroll of summoning or something to get it. I don't know I could never even get my mount to even show up. Very frustrating to say the least.  I don't know about dragon eggs because I got so frustrated trying to try the game out and the extreme weakness of my priest dying all the time and not being able to get the mount to show that I quit playing to go do something else. Gaming is supposed to be fun not frustrating.

I've only seen one bug that I have noticed and that is..you can be running through and get nailed by something. You look around and don't see anything. Than you will notice a sword or some sort of figure coming out of a tree. That is indeed a monster that is stuck in the tree. It can hit you but you can't battle it. If you try it says target not seen or something. I'm sure that will be fixed in the future.

Many people will complain about lag and disconnect issues. I have not had any of these issues whatsoever. The game did crash on me at one point but that's not a big deal. These things are expected to happen in new games. Speaking of people. The community there are not very friendly at all. Many people will ask questions. Some good some stupid but the people just completely ignore any questions being asked. Not a very friendly community at all. As far as GM"s go. When the game launched u saw a bunch I suppose, but getting to a GM now is like pulling teeth. They are never around. I've tried different times of the day as well, because I really would like to have some help with this unusually and unecessary complex mount system they have.

Overall not a bad game I don't guess. It def has potential and I hope they can make it more user friendly and just friendly in general. The game is chock full of quests and lvling is not difficult at all. Crafting options are there but you can only do one craft which kind of sucks but eh not that big of deal. This is not a game I will be playing regularly until/unless they make it to where it's more fun and not so frustrating. I will check in time to time on it. Worth a shot for sure, but not one of the epic MMO's IMO. At least not this far.
